Then you apparently don't have a real job yet. I hardly think it's ANet's fault if somebody's responsibilities keeps them from the game, but I can think of plenty of times my work has kept me from playing for 24+ hours. The phrase "business trip" leaps immediately to mind, as do the phrases "last minute patch test" and "the customer changed his requirements".
Sorry for being patronizing, but that comment was kind of insulting. Not everybody can just sit down whenever they want and play.

Well I would give mine away to those that collect them but they're customized. Unless anyone wants it anyway.

Wow, not only is this thread funny, The GW Dev team made themselves sound stupid ONCE AGAIN. I am a big fan of Gaile knowing she comes to LA int D1 to talk to us, and doesn't have to, but this time the GW team slacked off. First of all, your little "timer" was if you were standing in front of a NPC, for who knows how long, and not enjoying the rest of the game.
Also, Gaile said some of the fun is finding out the schedule...... wow.... umm... idk what to say except LOL. Finding out the schedule was the most annoying crap in the world.
Some people say "It's only a mask" but the mask signifies that you were part of "something", which i dont really care if im part of something lol, i just like that mask!!! I think the GW team should hand out a free mask to everyone who got the pre-order, but not the mask.
And, i know that this thread will no longer be read by any members of the GW team, or I'm quite sure of it, but might as well give it a try.

I saw the messages...at least one of them anyway. Got my Tyrian monk there with 30 minutes to go and a *huge* yellow/white message faded onto the screen that said "The Event Will Start in 30 minutes", similar to the text that fades in and out when you pop into a new area. There's no way you could have missed it *if*, *IF* you were in the Monastery at 2 hours, 1 hour, or 30 minutes to the event. Otherwise...yeah, you missed the message.
What would have been nice is if the huge message popped up every time you entered the Monastery stating X minutes until the event. Or if the Master of Celebrations of whatever would tell you how much time was left when you clicked on him. The best solution probably would have been to have it pop up in the chat window (similar to the HoH messages) with an update every 30 minutes or so.
I decided 30 minutes wasn't enough time to go fang hunting, so I bought them all instead.

You had a whole day, you were notified ahead of time of the event and what day, it's not that hard to say "hey what time is the emperor coming and what do you need". Ta-Da every 3 hours, 250 naga fangs.

I think he's not complaining about only appearing every 3 hours, but the fact that the last time it showed up 20 minutes early. Alot of people don't like just sitting in a town doing nothing, and if theres an event like this, they'll go do something in game until the time comes, or if they have real life concerns, will wait until about 5 minutes before it starts to log on.
The fact that it said the emperor would be there in 3 hours, but turned up in 2 hours 40 minutes was the real issue. Alot of people missed out on the last appearance because the in game warnings told you he would be there 20 minutes after he actually showed up.

I was there for the last appearance (it was the only one I could make)...and everyone in the district knew he was going to appear 'early'. They even counted it down...and then there were a few minutes of 'where is he, he's late, wtf?' before he actually showed up. Of course, I wasn't paying attention to what the clock said, just to what everyone in the Monastery districts were saying, so it appeared he showed 'late', at least according to when everyone in my district expected him to show up.
So everyone in my district knew when he was going to show for the final appearance. Only those who had spent the whole time outside of the Monastery between the second-to-last and last showing appeared to have missed him, probably because those that stayed in the Monastery caught the 'minutes left' messages.
So I never paid attention to the clock after logging in, I just followed the crowd and didn't miss him at all. Of course, I was so worried about missing him, I kept stopping by the Monastery every 30 minutes to see how much time was left...

Well they don't mind constantly telling us who is winning at HoH - they could have easily enough put a global timer in.

This post bothers me, many of you have unsupported arguements. To the creator of this thread, .....Wow..didn't you say you missed the event because you go to college? Are you serious?...Must be community college with that type of spelling. To the rest of you, I understand BestBuy is stupid with their idea that preorder means ship it out 10 days after the release date even though you could buy it in the store the same day. To you all, you should've canceled, bought the preorder in a store (I got mine at bestbuy $10 seperate from factions), and bought the cd key from store.plaync.com to be able to play the same day as normal preorders.
As much as this thread is so poorly thought out mixed with terrible grammar, I do agree, Im not complaining, but agreeing.
The new NPC dialogue is a great annoyance, The time display ~was~ cute and funny back when we did 5 man Oro and you see, "You have been playing for 3 hours, please take a break." Though now, I don't think of them as funny as they were within 2 days of the update. The only message that I saw about "The Day Of The Tengu" was someone asking in local chat if we were still able to get the Tengu Mask on Friday (Day after the preorder headstart).
I also made two new characters, not just one, so I was in the Monastery more than a total of 2 hours with quests and such, did not see the message once.
This event has passed, so Im not asking for a rollback as we have seen when economy glitched with prices reset. Though more of to let ArenaNet aware of how effective that type of messaging is.
I would like to see other benefits from the preorder though. This is just what I've heard, but the "Coke shield", "Rhino Hammer", "Spider shield" are part of a Taiwan preorder or Korean preorder package? If so, why don't Americans receive any special preorder "Only" items, we just received daggers +15 while enchanted, not even above 50%, and a decent Ritualist staff.
But to the people complaining about the Tengu mask, honestly, what reason would like seriously like one of those? I had to delete my halloween masks due to limited inventories..even with 6 accounts inventory is limited.
The Tengu Mask would be just for (Excuse this) Idiot Wammos With Male Fissure Armor And Nothing To Do But Afk In Marhan Grotto In An Attempt To Make Them Feel Better About Life Because Two People Are Interested In Their Armor That They Most Likely Had To Use Ebay To Get Gold For. On the other hand, maybe just to show the guildies as a "Hey this is pretty cool".
Good Luck with your decision ArenaNet, I hope when people post they actually learn that words are spelt certain ways.
(If I have any typo's, quote it, if not...realize I typed this at 6:00am-6:20am)
Edit: Wow, I did not realize this was an event as in the X-Mas and Halloween Events, Im Sorry ArenaNet, But that was terrible advertising. I figured it was just a collector for fangs and handed out a Mask, but apparently it was a whole event. Well even at that, I missed X-Mas event because it was Vacation, and people do go on vacation, I was fine about that, Still was able to get candy canes. Was here for Halloween, that was fun, but I don't feel it was a waste of my $10 to preorder only because I missed an NPC in a town handing out Masks and such. But there is more that could be done to people whom have preordered. Also if this wasn't an event, just disregard this fully.

Get a life like the op has. It's a God Damn forum not a collage essay. Besides they didn't mention what they were majoring in.

Just got the hypocrite award on that one. Having multiple periods after a comma and a space between them then comment on someone elses bad grammer? Again it's only a forum so lay off.

Am I the only that could care less about things like Tengu masks, Wintersday hats, pumpkin heads, and other non-essential items that prove that I was a part of something? If it actually did something, like the candy canes from Wintersday, then okay... I'd understand the OP's point and I too would be a bit miffed. But otherwise, who cares?
Is it like Pokemon? "Gotta catch 'em all." I guess I just don't see the point for things like this that just take up inventory space. I feel like the only one that feels this way, though.
And in regards to having work and/or school, I respect anyone that puts their real life first, be it work or school or just having a social life (outside of the computer). This is just a game after all.

No, your definatly NOT the only one that thinks this way, but there definatly are ALOT of people who do care!..
You see, its called a hobby, like stamp collecting, coin collecting, train spotting..
Once you start a collecting hobby it becomes very addictive, I for one have collected (nearly) everything in GW.. especially the 'event' Hats.. so just as everyone likes to keep a winning streak going I want to keep my collecting going and I will be really sad if I miss something.

And I respect anyone who puts their whole heart and mind into doing something they love doing, if that be their loved ones, their familiy, their hobby, their job, anything!
Remember, A Game is for entertainment, its recreation, it is in fact VITAL to your mental health and enjoyment of LIVING life!
Playing a game might not be important to your recreational or leisure life-style, but it certainly keep my mind active, far more active than say, watching television!
These collectable items in Guildwars remind me of the good times I've had, the people ive met and had a laugh with, my guild and its history.... they are like Photographs, they are very important to me! and a symbol of my personal acheivments.
And I feel very sorry for anyone who missed out!
