i could see D&D style dwarven rifles which fire once.. using magic then would have say... a 30 second recast.. different.. magicall weapons ala D&D would be maybe teh only acceptable way and would require magic.. otherwise.. no FPS can have their guns.. il ike my bow

I just re-posted this on another thread too but here goes.

Look at the professions.
I know this may cause some dispute but:
Warriors: Mainly fighting based and their weapon matters.
Rangers: Mainly fighting based and their weapon matters.
Mesmers: Mainly casting based and their weapon doesn't matter a lot.
Monks: Basically purely casting based and their weapon hardly matters at all (except for energy benefits etc.)
Elementalists: Mainly casting based and their weapon hardly matters.
Necromancers: Mainly casting based, thier weapon doesn't matter much.
As you may see, there are four professions based around mostly casting and two professions based around mostly fighting and weapon use.
Therefore, surely, it can be said that the edition of another profession based around the use of a weapon would not harm the game.
I must say that the game definitely does not need another caster.
I think the idea of an assassin or ninja is really too off-Guild Wars, but I feel that a kind of fencer, as has been mentioned earlier in this thread, would be great.
This 'fencer' or perhaps '' probably should not use fists and feet as this does not really suit Guild Wars, but either a fighting pole or 'double sticks' - dual wielding. This character would be dissimilar to the warrior and ranger in firstly that he uses a pole and also his skills are rather based on whooping damage casters - he would be ideal against mesmers and elementalists. His skills would be based around the idea of balance, mind-reading, boosting the attack and damage of comrades, while decreasing that of the enemy and causing exhaustion of casters with his weapon, and trickery.
Attributes:
Balance Arts - based around the use of the pole/sticks, moves with it.
(damage with the stick increases with level, not points in this attribute, so it is not compulsory to have points in this attribute to use the weapon)
Hypnotic Arts - Mind-reading, mind control, ability to daze, and demoralise enemy.
Vocal Arts - Shouts, mumbles, boosting allies, worsening enemies
Trickery - only available to '' primary, the amount of points in it increases the chance of the enemy being confused of you (not seeing your actions properly)
Also, as the pole is too handed it will not be avaiable to warrior with secondary or ranger secondary. It will be avaiable to casters as they can use staffs, but that may/may not work.
This new profession could alter the balance in Guild Wars but it would in my view be a good addition (or something of a similar kind to it).

This new profession (Dualist)
Thanks Fitz for providing the name I was trying to think of
The name Dualist fits the character class well.

I could see the Cestus or some equivalent as a weapon. Perhaps also, dual punching blades would be a creative design using the Tonfa as base, the right long side forward and left long side back.
I think these are also good ideas.
Here is a list of weapon possibilites I have brought together in my head:
1.Pole/Sticks
2.Dual punching blades.
3.Dual mini-scythes
4.Whip
5.I can't think of a name...like dual mini-hammers, but they have smaller hammer-heads...well.
6.Metal chain.
7.Metal chain and whip
Well I know some of these are 'unrealistic' but I reckon they are pretty good ideas.
Here is my list for armour also:
1.Ninja stylie.
2.Chinese warrior style.
3.Martial arts kit.
4.Baggy clothes, lots of padding, that sought of thing.
5.Chainmail. It would be like the crusaders, covered in cloth (obviously not embroidered with crosses, but perhaps with some other symbol of meaning).

I like these ideas and actually in one of your previous posts commented on your first build. As for the Dualist class this would seem more of a fencing class than a martial arts class at least by terms of the name but i do like the build. Oh and I think the name you were looking for with those small hammers is a mallet.

Nah, rapiers for the win!
New swordsmen, new skills, minimal to no overlap with warriors skills.
Muskets... ugh. Perhaps... you need to take a reload skill, much like pets? Say 5 second reload, easily interrupted, while reloading character cannot perform any other action.
Of course, if they do more damage, you're dangerously opening up the next FOTM, the musket spike...

Nice stuff symeon! its good to see the first big ides being posted on my thread and i have to say i like it.
It sounds to me very similar to a combination of ranger and warrior that i heard about and have been trying. This build has been very succesful so far and i think your idea sounds just like that but with a heavy mesmer influence,
something which i think gos well with the fighting style.
Keep the ideas coming plz

Deviating slightly from the theme of classes for a while, who thinks weapons should have the option to be shown holsterd in town areas, so you can show them off easier, without playing around with all the trade menus and stuff.
You know for all the vain types out there.
(i was also going to mention a way of paying to change hair style and colour, in game, but decided my sexuality was at risk for putting hairdressing in games)

What we need is another melee-class. We only have one now (Warrior), to be exact.
Assassin is probably the most nominated class at this moment, with dueling ability which I am sure will be full of bugs (at least in the beginning). lol

lol this thread is a joke.. GUNS... c'mon people.. this would make a warrior useless and completely destroy the game, in order to make this game better they should make modifications, not go off on some fantastical journey through the impossible, where guns are used, but arrows and shields are still important... go make ur own game if u wanna completely re-do the strategies in this game. im not flaming this thread, just telling you these ideas are ludicrous and ridiculous.

Some of you who read the thread may have realised that Flaxx had already admitted defeat on that idea and now would like people to discuss their own ideas, not continue to flame his.

Even though some of the ideas I think are a bit too similar to the existing types I like the idead of a fighting oriented new profession. the whip struck me as a good idea. Someone also mentioned the use of some sort of arttack that was quick.constant but week, maybe a blowdart or something like that? Anyway I'm not really coming up with new profession ideas here but new weapon ideas - I can't really think of a proffesion that would go with them (unless you want a whip welding archeologist). Also even though I like ninjas I don't think guild wars is the sort of place you should really use for hand-to-hand stuff. Maybe a shapeshifter?
(Prepares for the flaming of a life time)

It's not such a bad idea. Personally, I'd like to see a form of rogue, assasin, or all around bad guy as a profession. come on, comboed with a necro, hello evil!
But yeah, I like the idea of ranged weapon blowdarts, could model em off the bow concept but have them deal less damage but with more constant hits and alter effects< like poison darts, ranger traps, etc> Maybe even a one skill use thing like a rez sig called "Pick lock" on any chest you might happen across <one use per map> or something of the like. I always like the thievery side of things.

I can see blow darts...weapon being something like a hollowed sugar cane pole, more so than a bow though.
Edit: The more I think about this idea the more I like it. I can see an elite skill like Paralysis or Blood Poisoning, etc...

How can you have more constant hits than a ranger? Have you ever seen what happens when you mix Quick Shot with Tiger's Fury?

YES we need rogues or assasins or even thieves that steal skill, break through armor, powerful atk skills but they have weak armor.
here some attrbute ideas for thieves: dagger mastery, stealth, thievery, cunning (only for primary thieves)

this could be their natural ability since ranger do get elevation bonus.
Mostly every time i play this game it reminds me of fire emblem (mostly cause of the lvl 20) maybe we could like after lvl 20 change to a better primary proffesion and start from lvl 1 again.
like in FE the thief can be an assasin or a rogue after lvl10 and u know they can make a big quest out of it. u know

Flaxx something you may want to consider is editing your first post and at the end stating that the idea is finished this would prevent people from just reading the first post and going off on it. As for some of the class ideas I'm deffinately liking where this is going. But the more I try coming up with a new class the more I keep thinking alot of the existing classes could use these ideas just with some skill tweaking and weapon additions.
