Is there a max amount of points you can put in a skill, or can you endlessly pour awsomeness into the skill of your choice?

Ok, so keep in mind i don't even have the game, i'm looking to get it in mabey a week.
I've looked at this thread, read up to about page 3 then realised that the whole thing was just reinstated over and over again. The basic's being that:
-The level cap is 20
-Some people like the cap at 20
-Some want a bit more
-The game is not level based, rather based on player skill <(Creepy Face says: "That's impossiable!")
-The game is heavy on PvP but it is not a nessisary aspect of said game.
-The game is instance based (I.e. when your doing a quest, it's only you and/or your party)
Right? So it's good that the level is capped at 20 because none of the lvl 20's will be getting their asses handed to them by a level 60. But the thing is, if the cap's raised, say (hypotheticaly [that means keep reading and shut up]) to 30, then the PVP players will most likely be level 30.
I'm pretty sure that most of us here would rather go into a room of 20 enemies with a machine gun rather then a six shooter. Oh? You like the revolver you say? Well guess what!
That's where the skill comes in. That's where the level 20 kills the level 30, that's where the level doesn't matter.
Now, with that vented into the air, probably later causing solar radiation to leak into the atmosphere and fry hundreds of human beings, I would like to ask a few, probably already asked, questions:
-There are 4 character slots correct?
-Is it possiable to craft things? I know you can dye armor and stuff.
-How big do groups get? Like the one's in the video's and groups for quests.
-What is the deal with all this "You only see people in the towns unless your in a group" stuff?
-How many servers are there? I get the notion that there is only one of them.
and lastly
-Is the EB collector's eddition worth getting?
That's all for now. Hopefuly i'll see you in game in about a week or so.
[Edit]
Ah yes, i looked at the interactive map and noticed... HOLY CRAP! That's a pretty big area. Is it possiable to travle from one end to the other? I mean completly I.E As in like the Elder Scrolls or (i hate to say it) like in GTA?

This seems to be the essential point: Basicly you continue to level (in skills), but you dont get more health/mana. I'm not level 20 yet so I cant say how this works out, but if raising skills brings more power to a chr. it should still give a feeling of 'building' and growing stronger. And thats why we play games like this!

If all you care about is leveling, you are in the wrong game. Just like the people in EQ2 that care about nothing but PvP and guild competition are in the wrong game. Leave games how they are, and pick a game based on what you want. Personally I picked guild wars because it has what I want, a nice balanced environment to pvp or do story based missions. How is it fair to me or others if you change that?

Lol, the funny thing about this is that if they would have said: its infinite leveling but after level 20 there's a cab on health/mana... No one would have bothered!

No one would play a game if there was a "cab" on health/mana.
Sorry, I just had to.

This to me sounds like a softcore gamer game. After lvl 20 is aquired .. (a week or so) so do you get xp from killing things then after lvl 20 xp goes into skill points or are skills aquired differently. Also if everything is available to everyone and nothing is made hard to get the game will get dull very fast. Is there a total number of hours you could spend on this game without repeating things. PvP duh, but for quests and stuff.

I've just got one question really...
If i was to start a PvP character only, I know that I don't have access to the PvE areas, but am i still able to achieve/purchase all the skills for my professions?
Or can that only be done by RPing a character through the story?
It's my only point of confusion, attaining all the skills with a PvP only character- if it's possible or not.

your PVP character can use what your PVE character unlocks (skills upgrades runes etc) and those stay unlocked if you delete the rp character that unlocked them

Imo, why not have a system like Diablo 2 you had to finish normal to get to nightmare difficulty mode and so on.
If you would finish the game (all quests done and so on) you could advance to lets say Normal (if you see it like this EASY-NORMAL-HARD) on normal your max level would be 40, on hard 60 and so on.
This would also solve the newb's ass kicking and etc, and you would be able to level up to a reasonable level.
You would not be forced to play normal mode for example if you liked the level 20 cap, just stay at easy mode then.
This would imo, make both sides happy, and furthermore make the game even better.

Hi all,
I am only 3 days into the game, but have watched the website for months. I am going to jump right in with both feet here and say just play nice. If you like and think a cap on level or anything else is great...fine. But, don't defend the game and its features by trying to tear down other games. That is immature and won't change anyone's mind. I am a hard core DAOC player. I liove the 50 levels <have 4 different but fab lvl 50 toons>and don't find it a grind because there are so many ways to get there. Although life can be easier at 50, it does not mean there is nothing to achieve. So much has been added to the realms that you can be busy in a variety of ways for months if not years. I love both the PvP and PvE and absolutely HATE questing , lolol.
Why did I come to GW? It's beautiful, it's different, and a few guildies have come with me for the change. Will we quit DAOC over GW??? No way..we'll enjoy them both for what they are.
Peace and fun....see you out there.

Might i ask what DAOC is?
have you ever had that feeling when your opinion towarsd something is fluctuating? like now i don't know if i want to get it or not. I think i will, and if worst comes to worst, i could return it for something else.
