Default In response to Drok Run's scammers thread

Let me know what you guys think about this.

Would it be fair if GW players started some sort of police force?

When players are scammed (for runs/trading/etc.) they report to a member of the GW Police Department.

When someone is reported they are added to a list on the GWPD's website. The list would consist of minor criminals, major criminals, and most wanted criminals, depending on the severity and consistency of a crime.

It wouldn't be fair if someone falsely accuses someone else of scamming so the GWPD will have to do some sort of investigation.

If a criminal wants his name taken off of the list he would have to pay a fine in which will go into paying for the money he owes.

I would go into more depth but I would like to know what you guys think first.

this will only work if the entire guild wars community co-operated with this scheme.

This kinda feels like the GM people in WOW, where you can report stuff to or ask a question to.

A police department. I think not, they got scammed they got scammed be smart next time, besides we have police in real life no need in a game. Just let karma bite em back in the ass.

LF Police Guild to join.

I just thought it would be nice to have a list to go to when performing runs. That way a runner or trader will know ahead of time if someone is a scammer.

Also, what do you mean they got to be smarter next time. You run some one and they don't pay you. How are you going to do something to be smarter next time?

Vigilanteism serves no one. Leave enforcement to the authorities.

You did say (for runs/trading/etc.).

As for being smart on runs, make them pay at zones, and show money ahead of the run.

of course in this case the authorities are pre-programmed npcs in each of the major towns in the form of Ascalon Guards, etc...

This is called the "Better Business Bureau" here in America. And, much like America, there is a very small percentage of the population that takes the time to actually look up "who is a scammer and who isn't". As such, a "police department" would likely have little value to most GW players and wouldn't provide enough of a deterrent to GW scammers.

this may help to police runs scamers, which is the easiest way to scam

but i have ot say if you get Trade scammed, it's your own damn fault for being an idiot and not paying attention. you have plenty of oppurtunity to look at what is being traded exactly before hitting accept. just have a little patience or if someone is start/stop alot then just say screw it and don't trade with them. you are your own victim in these circumstances.

lol...Crimson Knights, Guild Wars style?...

seriously, though, the most any player can do is report a scammer...they can't investigate or verify anything reported to them and can't do anything to the scammer anyway...thus, a "police" force would pretty much be pointless...

commendable, its not the worst idea ever as somone said. It would be nice having a website for gw policing since you cant post names here (Im not arguing against that for the record).

But it would'nt work completely. It may against minor scammers but if you are talking about major offenders It would be a considerable bit harder. Much of the big time scammers I imagine move around accounts - if they are dealing in massive sums of GW's money (possibly for real money etc). In turn, say you list some poor guy who had his account hacked and that person gets his account back after his character/s have been up to poor behaviour - its unfair on him.

Sure, you can say that for scams in trade. But with running the most you can do to protect yourself is having them show you money before you start and giving it to you at certain points. This doesn't mean they have to pay you to get there in any way since its payment on arrival.

Back to the point. You can already report scams to the staff, the problem is we get no confirmation if they were even punished in some way. So this really doesnt help us because we're not getting the satisfaction of the other person getting what they deserve.

Getting scammed is an occupational hazard for runners. Always has been, always will be. My suggestion would be to find another occupation.

police force for a game?? omg what next? FGWI??? (federal Guild Wars investigation)

Scammers are 12-16 year chill/dope/GANGSTA so you can do nothing about it, they are just young and.....
So next time you see the scammer just say NI to him till he gives back your cash or ask him to cut down the mightiest tree with a harring

So say NI to FGWI and have fun

1) could falsely report someone as a scammer... abusable.
2) power corrupts, and attracts the corruptible:
2) a) who is the money paid to, and how to you ensure that it goes into the appropriate coffers? abuseable.
2) b) how do you prevent the very same scammers from getting on the police force and using their influence over the list to falsely dominate and extort legitimate citizens? abusable.

honestly, this idea is a non-starter.

or, in the words of Comic Book Guy,
"Worst. Idea. Ever."

AFAIK this already exists or at least existed last year, there was a website which listed Droks runners that were reliable and scammers.

I dont have the link anymore but I know it did exist at one time.
