I think this is greatly overlooking the value of armor and energy regeneration on certain classes. This isn't a custom build character with any attributes and any armor and any skills you choose, the limitations in armor, energy regeneration, Rune selection, and Primary attributes as well as functionality of other attributes in each classes line all work together to make each one unique yet balanced.
Basicly, what you end up with is something that may perhaps be balanced, but you lose all distinction and end up with nothing but mesh classes. The division of skills and abilities compliments the use of parties which work together to accomplish a goal, not a half dozen super heros who have all the powers neccessary to do whatever on their own.
Taking the the visual customization of armor and applying to to completely costomizable character creation is a far shot, and is realy pointless, your talking about a totaly different game, even if it was better, you can't just replace the focal mechanics of a game for something new, players who buy and play this game enjoy the way it is, anything totaly divergent belongs in a different game.
