Alternative way to learn Skills or Signets of Capture & Earn Faction
Reference Threads:
06-04-2006 | generik | Giving totems/requisitions for victories in Fort Asphenwood and other battles?
06-08-2006 | aron searle | 1k for skills, still ok.
06-07-2006 | Age | What way do you like better in obtaining skills
1. Skils & Signets of Capture
For those characters who needs to spend 1,000 gold for every new skill they wish to learn:
They can use five (5):
- Imperial Commendations
- Luxon Totems
- Equipement Requisitions
To learn a new skill, or a Signet of Capture in the respective outposts.
- Luxon Town, Outposts - Luxon Totems
- Kurzick Town, Outposts - Equipment Requisitions
- Canthan Town, Outposts - Imperial Commendations
2. Factions & Rewards
Allow us to earn Faction by trading in:
- Equipment Requisition <=> Kurzick Faction
- Luxon Totems <=> Luxon Faction
500 Kurzick or Luxon Faction per Equipment Requisition or Luxon Totem traded in.
3. Earn Equipment Requisition & Luxon Totems from Fort Aspenwood, Jade Quarry & Alliance Battles
Reward the winners of the battles with one (1):
- Equipment Requisition <=> Kurzick team won
- Luxon Totem <=> Luxon team won
==========================
Commentary:
Regardin these 3 items:
- Luxon Totems
- Imperial Commendation
- Equipement Requisition
"Quartermasters" in capital cities will take in these items and give us in return:
1) 1 for (salvage kit, dye remover, ale etc)
2) 3 for (expert salvage etc)
3) 5 for (elite mission chest keys, gold scrolls etc)
Now, for option 1 and 2, I can spend gold to purchase them.
I have maxed out my gold storage capacity so gold is not an issue for me.
As for option 3, I never use gold scrolls, and I will never have the chance to be in any Elite Mission, so the key will be useless to me.
To sum it up, all 3 options are useless to me, since option 1 and 2 can be solved with gold.

I believe the point of those items are to save you money. I have no objection to them giving you skill points in exchange, but I really have no need for it. You get tons of XP from the FedEx quests.

Tons of XP and skill points from pretty much all Canthan quests. 5000 XP from capping a elite. I see getting skillpoints hardly a problem now. I'm just using my credits/recommendations etc to get salvage and ID kits and keys.
Getting 5 commendations (or whatevers) usually means 5 skillpoints as is as they are in the quest rewards. But doesn't hurt I suppose, tho I see no use as I have tons of unused skillpoints as is

how about a signet of capture??? I know that would be a nice item to get with those. lol say 5 at least to get 1 SoC... That way it saves you having to use a skill point to get one.
And you should be able to use the Forbidden keys (Imperial) in the final mission area for some really good chests in there...

A week has passed and this topic has been buried in the 7th page.
This thread has received much less feedback than the rest, hence the thread revival, in hopes of receiving more feedback from the members of this community.
Because I believe there can be much more better uses for these "Credits" items.
All of the "Rewards" offered by the "Quarter Masters" can be purchased with gold, with the exception of the "Elite Mission Chest Keys", and the rare scrolls are obtainable with certain Collectors.
Hence, I call out to the members of this community, come forth and comment regarding this issue that is brought up in this topic of discussion.
Feedback, in any form, be it positive or negative, is much appreciated.
Thank you for your time.
Cheers.

I would like to be able to get skills with those Commendations thingers. Would be quite nice. So /signed for that. I mean, you'd still have to earn them and all, but it would provide another means of getting skills.
On a side note, there really REALLY needs to be an explaination of what to do with the things, since it seems like everyone has no clue what they're for. XD

Skill points are already in abundance in Cantha. You can get up to 3 skill points a mission, there a many repeatable quests which give great experience. If you trade in these items it should be to bypass the cost of a skill, not for a free skill point. What is missing from cantha are the quests that give you skills and no equivalent exists.

That's exactly what i was thinking. I got all the ranger skills that are available in Prophecies due to skill quests being there, but with my new rit, i'm going to have to buy every single rit skill, and most necro ones, since all the skill quests in tyria are core proffesion skills only, or tyrian characters only.
The trading in credits for skill points is an idea i'd only go for if they have no intention of bringing in skill quests for canthan characters.

Actually, what I'm hoping for is a way to turn my skill points into something else. I only buy a skill when I need it, so I have over 200 unused skill points between my 6 characters.
Turning skill points into Monestary Credits and Imperial Commendations wouldn't be that bad. At least I'd get a quest reward I could do something with.

I have to agree on this one. Having to buy skills in Cantha is an absurd idea and should be done away with and return to the skill quest and let us choose from a list of options. Obviously not all skills available on all quests.
But, since we have to pay for the skills we want let us spend these quest rewards on skills. Not necessairly 1 for 1, I would go for 1 credit + 500gp = 1 skill, or even 2 for 1.

Here's a new suggestion to add to this topic:
What if we are able to trade in:
- Equipment Requisition for Kurzick Faction
- Luxon Totems for Luxon Faction
What do you all say?

Being able to trade some number of credits for a "token" to use at the skill trainer in place of (1 skill point and 1 plat) would fix my biggest disappointment with Factions. What's better than a skill quest? - a skill-of-choice quest!!! Great idea, imho. It lets us buy regular skill access or cap sigs for doing quests. It wouldn't let us buy elites.
(For the record, I find A LOT more things I like about Factions than things I dislike, and WTG ANet! But I'm lazy and resort to posting only when unhappy )
I don't see the logic behind encouraging build variation by reducing the number of "free" skills we can get on one character. In Prophecies, I went back and did every profession specific quest whenever I switched secondaries. After my first character, I always took the time to do every profession's test quests in presearing, just for the skills available later.
Doing those early quests encouraged:
- playing instead of farming
- high lvl characters to be in places where we could team with low lvl characters or see their questions at least.
I've read ANet meant to encourage more variation in builds by having fewer Cantha skill quests (and locking our Canthan characters out of the early, post-searing Tryia skill quests,) but it seems this policy discourages variation. The higher the relative expense of trying out new skills and new builds, the less likely people will be to risk either skill points and/or gold if they perceive they have a limited amount.
Why evolve the game to encourage players to buy the cookie cutter farming build skills before we risk buying the "Oooh, what's this button do?!?!" skills?
Aren't games supposed to be about, "Oooh, what's this button do?!!?" ... or is that just the engineer in me?

The Forbidden keys you can get are nothing to do with the elite missions, they're for chests in the 2nd to last mission of the main game - the elite missions have their own keys buyable at a merchant just before you start them.
Be worth being able to swap the requisitions for faction or capture signets - although I can't see the point for skill points as they're so increbibly easy to get now (my 2 main characters have every chap 1 & 2 primary skill and elite + all useful 2nd skills/elites from all the 2nd professions and still have over 200 skill points left between them).

Not everyone has 200 skill points. Average people like me don't get to play all day long, and in Factions you can't get skills from quests at all, unless you count shing jea when you're slammed with them at Ng.
On my best character, I haven't even earned 100 skill points in this entire year, and I'm not the only person who gets on a few times a week. A way to get skill points other than XP would be wonderful since all the new skills are impossible to get through quests.

I think it would be pointless to trade tokens in for skill points since it is so easy to earn them in Factions. However the idea of being able to trade a certain number of tokens for a skill(not elite) or signet of capture would be great.
For those that have no use of their skill points, it would be nice to be able to convert them to something else. Like a token which you can use to buy something else. Each skill point would equal out to however many tokens it costs to buy a skill with a token. That way even though you may not be hurting for money, you don't have to spend it on keys or ID kits. That would be nice!
It would be really nice to be able to trade in tokens for Faction from that respective group. That would cut out the whole faction farming which would probably get rid of some of the afk'ers in Fort Aspenwood and the Jade Quarry.
