concept class: Warder
many have thought we need a new tank. rather than creating a new damage dealer who can tank almost as well as a warrior, i though it should be taken a step the other direction. create a nearly pure tank, who can deal some damage.
now there is room for input on this guy, i just have the concept, you guys can throw in your ideas. all my best ideas come from arguing with other people's ideas.
pretty much this guy would be way heavy build, and heavy armor.. think platemail and then some... or you could have armor not necessarily so bulky, but magical in nature. you could even get into some elemental fun, like armor made out of liquid fire or chunks of earth.
appearance... they wouldn't be too unusual, just either very bulky, or if you want to use the more mystical side, they could just be very odd in some manner, like they could have bones through their noses or something.
armor range: 95-110 AL a piece
now of course no class should be defense alone, for heaven's sake even monks have ways to stike back (smiting)
so here is the decision, do you set him up as a slow moving juggernaut, and give him melee or short range projectile (ball and chain, long chained flail) with his range reflecting the type of flail/ball and chain/weapon
or do you
make him more small spell based.
there are lots of possiblities in this genre, you could make his primary be that he can use energy he draws from the earht and life and sotne around him to gain a kind of mystical adrenaline that he gains as he takes hits or stands still without moving or being knocked down. he can then use this to cast most of his spells (energy 15-25)
btw, most of his defense skills would be similar to a mixture of earth magic with warrior defense with a sprinkling of mysticism...
so bring on your ideas! lets craft the warder into a grand ole' class.

You are forgetting one thing... Dual Profession. Having a Heavy armor prof, unless otherwise having other draw back, will just overshadow a Warrior, with a Warder/War combo. Need more uniquness to it, else would just give War the new armor.
For ideas, I did wrote a Paladin/Defender/Templar class befoe, which you can look. Also there were a few similar ideas by other around before.

I really dont think this will work too well. Its not really a class, its just an extension of an existing class. It doesnt serve a new purpose, nor does it show any new ideas.
The warrior IS the tank. if he wants to be a pure tank, he has stances and buffs to increase his armor and make him practically invincible.
This is what makes Guild Wars great. You can be an attacked with one build or change around and be a pure damage sponge with your warrior.
This is too specialized and i dont feel like it has any place, even with heavy modifications.

I think that a warder would over shadow a warrior... As you said, they have high defense and attack... Doesn't that seem TOO strong? Every professional has something bad about it, but from what your saying, I cannot think of any significant ones... I think your idea is cool, but it seems too much...

A geomancer E/Mo can be a pure tank, with very little damage. They're basically invincible to anything but an enchantment removal, but the reason almost no one makes one is that you can't really get monster aggro if you're not dealing much damage, and in pvp people will just walk right past you.
This actually sounds kinda like an earth ele too...

it would not overshadow the warrior... the warrior is currently thought of as the tank, but they also have more damage output than most other classes... this class would not overshadow the warrior in damage, just in defense... it would not do the same damage a warrior would, it would just have greater armor...
and the alternative is to constantly fill the space inbetween warrior and caster with 20 classes with armor ranging from 65 a piece to 75 a piece... i just think it would be good to see something outside that range.
