Player Stats Menu - (and badges)
Stats Window/Menu
Its not an original idea, for such thing has been suggested before by many other. But I will put up my version/vision of it.
A Stats Window/Menu is much like the Friend or Hero menu, accessible by hot key or by the menu selection. It will display the more “interesting” player stats of his play experience. It would be separate by tabs for easier access to different group of stats.
Some ideas of what would go in there.
General Stats:
Time: Total time played
Death: How many time you die
Mob Kill: how many mob you killed.
Boss Mob Kill: how many boss mob you killed.
Player Kill: how many player you killed. (PKs)
Mission Progress: Where you are in the main story line.
Game Flow: check to see hows the flow of the game (if you enter a town that you are not suppose to be in (check by your lv and mission finish), you will get a RUNNER sign)
Exploration %: How much of exploration you uncover.
Item Unlock %: How much mods/runes you unlock so far.
Number of Skills: How many skills you have.
Number of Elites: How many total Elites you have.
Time of changing 2ndary:
Favorite Profession combo: see what prof combo you use the longest.
Favorite Armor:
Favorite Weapon:
Max Damage done to a target:
Max Damage done to group:
Max Damage Received:
Max Heal:
Consecutive Arena Win:
Consecutive Mob Kill:
Consecutive Player Kill:
… (etc)
Bio:
A window for you to write down a personal Bio about your self or your character. (be sure to keep it under rating)
Badges and Titles:
It would be place for you to manage your titles. To toggle what to show and not show. To see or not see other’s title. Etc.
Badges would be a new thing to add. Badges are earn by doing something, from something of very difficult, to something trivial. (will be graded by Gold, Silver, and Bronze) Much like the title, it is just another way to reward player for doing something unique. Badges is not shown, and should be a lot of ways to earn different ones. Also when you click/select a badge you earn in your window, should include a picture and a paragraph of description that would tell you much more about its lore, or just give an explanation.
Some examples…
You saw that giant Crystal on sear-Ascalon. As you go near it, you will earn a Bronze badge of “Giant Fallen Crystal Explored”. (you can later select it, and it will tell you more back story about it)
You finish the whole missions in under 24 hours. You will earn a Gold badge of “Speed Hero”.
You finish Thunderhead Keep with out anyone dying. You earn a Gold badge of “True Defender of Thunderhead Keep”
You killed 300 Charrs. You earn a bronze badge of “Charr Slayer”.
You killed 1000 Charrs. You earn a silver badge of “Supreme Charr Slayer”
You win 5 Consecutive rounds in Arena, and did not die at all. You earn a sliver badge of “Un-fallen Champion”
- Also there will be a Badge Number count that track how many badges you have.
As you can see, there would be many many badges that you can earn. It adds on more “surprises” to the game, keeping player interested, as well as another way to introduce lore, and to barrage about your achievements. And would provide additional talk topic in game, or on forum. That would be the advantage I see with Badges.
Also there should be a way for other to look at your stat menu, should they choose. (something that would be kinda like trade button)
That’s what I have for now… feel free to add in what you think about it, and what else would be good to go in such Menu.
(and if such idea does get added into the game.... can I get a free game for it? )
----------------------------------------
Adding soem notes on the badges...
- the name "Badges" were use so to get a easier picture of what it is (from other game). But I would perfer call them "Annals", or "Annals Marker".
- Should have options to sort them by "rank" or by "Time". With sort by time, you get a chronological history of the special acheivements you did in your progression. (also would be nice to add a date... or a in-game Tyria Date)
- Again, such thing is to track two things... Lores, and special achievements. Since they are easier attendable compare to Titles, they give a easier goal...as well as add on to more surprises and freshness.
- There were some debats about if such thing will create more discrimnations. I still say it won't be that far off from Titles. With that many badges, even if shown, not everyone is going to check it when use in LFG situation.

I like this, but I think that they're already implementing something like this with the Title system that's going to be coming out with Factions.
I still like this idea, though. I'd like to know how many mobs/bosses I've killed. :P

Yeah they're implementing Titles thingy, but its not as detailed as this. PvE players dont got enough thing to brag about. I wish I could brag about being the monk who killed the most mobs in my guild without farming.
Or being the one that healed for the most HP in one spell (for a whooping 635 or so once.. Symbiosis + Bunch of Enchants + Infuse Health + Divine Boon + 16 Heal and 15 Divine = pwnage)

Keep in mind, Badge and stats are not like Title.
They have a similar purpose and functions (to keep player playing) but titles are bit more limited. Badges can have more freedome (greater numbers, addtional informations...) because they are more "private".
Say I come up to the alter site where the Charrs used to start the ritual to bring down Searing. I won't get any titles for it (beside a +% in the progression) but I can get a badge for it. And upon selecting that badge, it might say " The DoomsFire Alter, is the site of power where the Grand Charr Fire Priest used to bring down the Searing. Countless souls are burn here in sacrifise in order to satisfy Charr's buring desire for conquest" (or some type of lore about it.) This make badges differnt from the Titles, and contribute more to other aspect of the game.

So you've got all this "Mobs killed" and "Damage dealt" stuff...
What about the healers and other support characters?

I play GTA and having all those little useless facts made playing the game stupidly fun, I don't know about you but I for one enjoy attaining useless little goals and being able to show your freinds, (furiously working on drunkard).
Imagine my surprise when I saw the titles system, I was happily surprised and as spoiled kiddies do, I want more. Anet, fire off more titles, I want more useless stuff to do!

Badge System /signed
I personally enjoy any events, because gives people an opportunity for a change in game-play and NCSoft/AreaNet have done an excellent job in arranging our past festivities.
The headgear is a nice gift to have to mark your participation in the events, but, our storage is limited to keep continuing to give us headgear. Just as actionjack said, I also strongly recommendation to the developers to add a badge-type feature, which is character specific, to mark participation and accomplishments. (Similar to the City of Heroes badge system.)
Individuals may click on any player within a town and are able to see their earned title, so add a pop-up showing all the badges earned by a character. Most likely, this would increase player’s interest in the game.
An example would be similar to this (modified one of the City of Heroes badges):
- Archmage Badge - Eye of the Magus
Description Earn the following badges:
Achievement:
Banisher - Defeat 200 Nightmares
Illusionist - Defeat 200 Breeze Keepers
Soul Binder - Defeat 100 Shiro'ken
Tracer - Defeat 200 Enchanted Bow
Exploration:
Mystic King - Raisu Palace
Faultless Mystic - The Arid Sea
Dark Mystic - Fissure of Woe
Mystic - Hell's Precipice
Benefit - Eye of the Magus:
+Resistance to all but hexes
+Defense against all but hexes
-speed
-recharge
-accuracy
When you activate this power, you get a very high bonus to defense and damage resistance for 1 minute, but you give up some running speed, recharge speed, and accuracy. The power's recharge time is 25 minutes.
Each one of the Achievements and Exploration items are earned badges. Those badges will go toward a Unique badge and special power that can basically only be used once in battle, due to the long recharge.

now THAT is a novel idea! earn badges by achieving goals, and be able to use them as a 1 use skill in each battle or PvE area. I like it! maybe an idea for C3...

Wow.. wonder how did this thread got pull up again... since I didn't link it in any recent discussession...hmmm
Anyhow, One thing I think it would do well is to help bring out more of those nicely written lores better. This idea was somewhat taken from Star War Galaxy too. I remember playing a beta of it long ago (before they had all that change), and you can earn badges for sight seeing the important sight, like on Tatooine, you would get a badge for visiting Jabba's Place, the Sandworm place where Baba Fett fall in, and Luke's Uncle's mositure farm... and such. They are useless, but are just fun to get.
On usablity of it. Its a good idea, as long as keep it balance. So if its just one time use, and can only use one per map/battle, as well as very low boost (else it would become "require", and making it a time game, and not a skill game) than it should be fine.
I think you should able to "Shout Out" your badge too. Where you would make a emot, with the that selective badge over your head for few seconds, in case you want to show off something hard to get or just new and exciting.
