Auction House
Just pushing this around since so many people are spamming channels etc now. How about they put in an auction house so you so don't have to sit and spam. Just put it up and let people bid on it. EQ had something like that and so does WoW.

well after many thoughts....
/notsigned. why?
You won't be able to earn "money" by trading then anymore. Only by chest-farming and selling. All ppl would have the same prices because sellers would always get the highest bid (in theory).

in order to stop the spam ruining your game just turn off the trade channel. Anet included a nice little update a little time ago that automatically switched wts/wtb into a trade window, helping the filter work more thoroughly. I for one have noticed far less trade spam when i turn off the trade channel.
And yes, in addition to the price scenario, those of us who make money through trading ie Buying from people who do not know the prices that well , would lose money from an auction system.
A large part of the enjoyment playing GW for me is judging the economy and keeping up to date with prices in order to make a quick buck through a few Del-Boy ish deals.
So no, not signed for me, as i think an auction house would police the economy so much as to actually destroy prices, destroy the fun of trading and ultimately the fun of the game.

You're assuming no one would ever put up an auction at a low price either to sell fast or because they don't know the correct price.

Seems you both are a little too worried about loosing your chances at making easy money on someone's ignorance.
What's so wrong with having an interface for selling/trading items so you don't have to stand around in town all day hoping to sell your items?

I've never played WoW, but I know in FFXI, the auction houses aren't really based on an auction system. Someone puts something on sale for an unknown price, and then someone else offers a certain ammount of gil, and if that ammount is equal to, or more than the set price, then they get the item. There is also a list of the last 10 transactions of that item, so people have a good idea of what to bid. Now you can make money by charging a higher price, or you can make money by selling more at a lower pice. It seems to work pretty well, and you can make money just fine.
And for those who say that the WTS/WTB filter cut down on trade spam, I was just in LA today, and all I saw was W.T.S. and W.T.B, and W T S and W T B, and so on.

They should make it so any sentence that has a "W" "T" "2" "S" or "B" in the first 8 characters go to the trade channel.
Someone name ANY word that was a WT and an S or B in the sentence. IN that order.
Problem solved.
Oh and the auction house
/going either way

Auction house = too much server-load and data to store = too expensive for a game without monthly fee = not going to happen.

I don't think this would generate that much more load for a server.
And I guarantee that it won't make more data to store. At least not prohibitivly (sp?). I bet that 500GB would be MORE than enough to store auction house data for a game like this. Mirror that in RAID and BAM. You have your Auction house server in a box that costs under $5k.

Can you please read the stickied threads on the Sardelac forum? This has been mentioned too often, if I had 25 cents for every time this was mentioned, I would have shot myself for not saying "If I had $1,000,000..."
