Bonelace: make it have more armor
Bonelace is +15 AL vs Piercing attacks compared to baseline while
Tormentor's is +10 AL , Holy damage you receive is increased by 5.
Blighter's is +20AL while hexed
Scar Pattern is +7 Energy (total)
Revenant's gives +35HP (total)
And Minion Master's Armor gives +5AL for 1, 2, and 3 minions
================================================== =======
Anyhow, it is clear that a Blighter's or Tormentor's *chest* would be the best all around armor for blood or curses users because they give universal armor, unlike Bonelace's armor against one type, piercing.
For a Minion Master, the Minion Master's armor can give up to 15AL with less drawbacks than the others so it would be good for MMs.
An alternative for any of these is scar patterns for energy, or Revenant's for health.
================================================== =======
You can clearly see Bonelace is lacking. It would be nice if the piercing armor to 10AL and then they give it some sort of boost in other ways. However, if it has armor versus piercing, why not
-give it reduction of poison or crippled like the Infiltrator's Armor of Assassins
or
-make it like other casters' (monk/elementalist/mesmer) +10 vs. all physical
or
-make it a boosted caster's armor, +10 vs. all physical, +5 vs. piercing (adds up to the +15 vs. piercing)

i think the +10 vs. all physical, +5 vs. piercing (adds up to the +15 vs. piercing is the best solution

Does it really need to be buffed?
If you're playing a casting character, you are in the backline, and should only be getting hit by spells and missiles.
Personally, i just don't use it on my necro.

But the Blighters only gives bonus if youre cursed, and Tormentors means you take extra damage from holy attacks(smiting), no thanks to both, Ill take base +15 vs piercing, if I had to use it(Im using Fanatics now)

With the proliferation of dual smite, tormentor's armor suddenly looks a lot less attractive. Blighter's is unreliable, so may as well take bonelace.

Tormentor's chest is a good option, only +5 damage. That's why I only said CHEST. The only smite skills that do damage in burst are symbol of wrath (and kirin's wrath), balthazar's aura, shield of judgement.
Except for shield of judgement, the other ones you can walk away from. +5-10 damage (Chest+legs of Tormentor set) on the other smite skills isn't too bad.

taking 31 damage instead of 31 for balthazaar is not something you can ignore .
your only 5 damage is actually near 20% more.
plus on a smite team the warrior will make holy damage as well.

This where I am torn. I love the look of the 15K bonelace, but just can't bring myself to buying it know that I'm sacrificing playing utility for looks.

Huh? Most of the suggestions here wouldn't affect necro susceptibility to ranger attacks at all, and some would even benefit rangers.
I think piercing-specific armor isn't a great idea in general. I'd /sign to have it changed to +10 vs physical or to something else altogether.
