Class Concept: Ceramicist
Since i cant log into GW (er 72!!) and my farming area in RO is crowded...im posting this ^_^
I really wanted a very original idea for a profession in guild wars, an here it is! I will add more skills as they come to me, but heres the basics.
Class Concept: Ceramicist: The Combat Artisan
The Ceramicist is a class concept based around the idea of creating magical vessels (or pots) and using their properties to attack, defend, or buff in combat. The Ceramicists are worshippers of both the goddess Melandru for providing them with clay, sand, and silica for their wares as well as Balthazar for magical flames of their burning hot kilns.
They carry no weapons in their hands, but have small portable kilns strapped to their backs used to fire up their vessels. However since their hands are used to shape sometimes the hardest of clays, they are able to fight bare handed or using their vessels as weapons.
The unique aspect of the Ceramicist is that their vessel creations must be made in the middle of battle. The size can range from small (fits in one hand), medium (can be carried under the arm or with both hands), large (must be carried with both hands), to huge (must be dragged).
The ceramicist will have 65 AL, and and 3 pips of energy recharge with 45 energy. They are a strange mix of caster attributes but carry very little spells, but instead use mostly skills. This makes them strong vs mesmers and warriors because of their evasion skills, but weak to rangers and elementalists (who will be strong vs their elemental attacks).
Attributes:
Viscosity [Primary]: This attribute refers to the quality of materials ceramicist wares. For every point in this attribute, the bonus physical damage caused by vessels is increased by 1% when the vessel breaks.
Molding Hands: This attribute line controls the shaping of vessels and hand to hand combat techniques.
Kiln Mastery: This attribute is responsible for the various skills that involve the portable hand kilns that a ceramicist uses to fire his vessels as well as control of the magical flames that fire the vessels.
Glaze Refinement: This attribute refers to the various properties used to refine your vessels, used primarily as defensive and healing techniques.
Sample skills:
Viscosity:
Cloud of Sand:
10e, 1s, 60r
Skill: This creates a protective cloud of sand for (3-10) seconds around touched target ally, while this skill is in effect, you evade melee attacks by 75%. The ally receiving this skill ends their stance.
Taste the Dirt;
10e, Instant, 45r
Stance: For the next (10-30) seconds, if you receive melee damage, the attacker receives (3-10)% of the damage back to the attacker.
Clay Perfection:
10e, Instant. 30r
Elite Stance: The next vessel you create will cause +(10-25) physical damage when it breaks.
Molding Hands:
Create Soft Bowl:
10e, 1s, 30r
Molding Skill: This skill cannot be used if you are holding a large or huge vessel. This creates a small soft vessel. While holding this, your melee attacks will deal 7-18 dmg. This vessel breaks after causing (100-220) damage. If you are holding two small vessels you have a (5-10)% chance of a double strike.
Create Soft Jar:
15e, 1s, 30r
Molding Skill: This skill cannot be used if you are holding a large or huge vessel. This creates a medium soft vessel. While holding this, your melee attacks deal 15-28 dmg. This vessel breaks after causing (200-340) damage. If you are holding two medium vessels you gain +(5-12) armor vs physical attacks.
Create Soft Urn:
15e, 1s, 45r
Molding Skill: This skill cannot be used if you are holding any vessel. This creates a large soft vessel. While holding this vessel, your melee attacks deal 19-35 damage and is slowed to the rate of a hammer. This vessel breaks after causing (350-540) damage.
Create Soft Pot:
15e, 2s, 45r
Molding Skill: This skill cannot be used if holding any vessel. This creates a huge soft vessel. While holding this vessel you cannot attack and your movement is slowed by 20%.
Create Soft Plate
10e, 1s, 30r
Molding Skill: This skill cannot be used if holding any vessel. This creates a small soft vessel. This vessel can be used for a distance attack that deals 15-28 damage. If the attack hits, the vessel will break and cause (5-18) damage to nearby enemies.
Face Gouge:
10e, 1/2s, 60r
Bare Hand Attack: This skill requires a free hand. This attack causes +(8-20) damage and causes blindness for (2-5) seconds.
Elegant Takedown:
10e, 1s, 60r
Bare Hand Attack: This skill cannot be used if you are holding a vessel or weapons. If this attack hits, the target enemy is knockdown and suffers earth damage of (12-30). You cannot attack for (3-1) seconds after this attack or use a skill.
Melandru Thrust:
15e, 1s, 60r
Molding Skill: This skill cannot be used if you are holding any vessels. This creates a shockwave that upturns the earth around you, knocking down nearby enemies and causing +(12-30) earth damage.
False Body:
15e, 3s, 45r
Molding Skill: This skill requires a large soft vessel. This creates a corpse made of clay that can be exploited. The large soft vessel is used up.
Kiln Mastery:
Quick Firing:
5e, 1/2s, 20r
Firing Skill: This requires a soft vessel. This turns a soft vessel into a hard vessel, increasing its damage by +(10-30) in melee but decreases its durability by (100-50) damage.
Slow Bake:
10e, 3s, 30r
Firing Skill: This requires a soft vessel. This turns a soft vessel into a hard vessel and increases its damage by +(12-35) in melee and increases its durability by (25-75) damage. This skill is easily interupted.
Infernal Bisque:
5e, 1/2s 20r
Firing Skill: This skill cannot be used if you are holding any vessels. Creates a small hard vessel. This vessel will break instantly if used in melee and deals +(10-25) fire damage.
Absorb All Moisture:
10e, Instant, 45r
Stance: For the next 8 seconds, any adjacent enemies will gain (5-15%) less from healing spells.
Blazing Chamber:
15e, 2s, 45r
Firing Skill: This requires a soft vessel. This turns all of your soft vessels and those of adjacent allys into hard vessels.
Signet of Terracota:
signet, 1s, 40r
Signet: Breaks any vessels you are holding. For the next 30 seconds, you have +(5-15) armor vs Fire Damage.
Glaze Refinement:
Ceramic Shield:
10e, Instant, 45r
Stance: Requires 1 hard vessel. For the next 30 seconds, you have a 75% chance to block any attacks.
Scenes of War:
5e, 1/2s, 30r
Elite Spell: Requires 2 small/medium vessels or 1 large vessel. Break the vessel/vessels and cause (12-35) physical melee damage to adjacent enemies.
Bottle Pain:
15e, 2s, 30r
Enchantment: Requires 1 hard vessel. For the next (9-15) seconds, any over (10-50) damage is negated and the vessel you are holding breaks and does (10-50) damage to adjacent enemies.
Sacrifice Vase:
10e, 1s, 40r
Enchantment: Requires 1 vessel. For the next (8-12) seconds, the next life stealing attack you receive will be reduced by (10-20) damage and the attacker will not gain life. Once the enchantment ends, the vessel will break but not cause any damage.

So pretty much they do "Pots"?
I have yet to read the skills (which I am sure would be good), but have to stop after reading the first two paragraph. One of the biggest reason to have new class is to attract player (the "this class would be cool" mentality), and I just don't think too many player would want to be a Ceramicist. Of couse, if there was a profession of Underwater Basketweaver, than I would be all over it.

You just drove me to join this forum. I've been lurking, because this place is awesome, but now I HAVE to join to respond. Because this is also awesome.
This is one of the best concepts I've ever read, and very well thought out. Very creative, and I know I'd make one in a heartbeat. It seems to relate to the Ritualist class (in my mind), somewhat in the way a Mesmer relates to an Elementalist. IE, it's similar, but totally different.
Scenes of War- best name for a concept skill, ever.
I'll stop ranting, now.
How does one petition ANet?

While the skill names are humorous. Lyra deserves credit for coming up with a very unique idea. Most people tend to copy from other places or atleast copy the concept from some where. I think it's nice to see some originality for once.
Lyra i've decided to use your skills for a little humor.

Original, yes. Strange, extremely. Being implemented, most likely not.

Mesmer is silly (fighting in a costume ball gown...come on...), my idea is downright bonkers XD
I thought about the idea for a while and the concept of using gourds or clay pots to contain magical essences and spirits is not a new concept. It is quiet prevalent in asian mythologies (hawaiian).
My first idea was jsut a fighter who had a large pot or gourd, and used magic that came from inside the gourd. Kind of like Gaara of the Sand from Naruto.
I liked it to an extent, but i felt that it was lacking a uniqueness that the classes in Guild Wars have.
I feel that every profession in guild wars has an "x" factor so each one stands out from the others. Warriors:adrenal skills, Rangersreps/spirits, Mesmers:Mantras, Necros:Sacrifice, Elementalists:Glyphs, Monks:Maintained Enchants.
So in other words, one class has to feel distinctly different from the other, because if you strip it down to the basica theres only 2 classes physical and magical.
The idea of creating something and using it then having it destroyed after usage is unique to my class idea.

*Holds finger up....opens mouth.*
*Stands silent with mouth open for moment...*
*Closes mouth.*
*Trys again*
I really don't know what to say about this class....it's definitely creative....hmmm...
*actually took some time to make a suggestion*
How about if the pots they make can be set down and cause a certain area effect until they are are destroyed (Large, Huge) or expire in duration (Small Medium)....and their weapon can be the tool they use to place the pots in the kiln?
It's a great concept, but it's a bit....half baked....

I was going to mention Gaara, but.. Having a Gaara class seems a little iffy..
Maybe- If you made the class like Gaara's fighting style, but instead of being restricted to earth, being able to use fire, air, and water in different masteries.

I read it and thoroughly enjoyed it.
If suggestions are all right, I'd say maybe tweak a few of the party-effect skills and emphasize the different size of the pots.
False Body, for instance? Maybe set it up such that if you use it with a huge pot, you can exploit it three times, large would go for two, and medium or small for one.

I dont want another elementalist. If you read through my skill listing, some of my skills are fire, some are earth, some are are physical, some cause conditions.
Gaara is just what i used to visualize the original idea, but my refinement has gone towards creating the vessel that holds the magic as well.

I truly do admire all the thought and work you put into this concept, it would be.....interesting?.....to see this idea implemented, but just a tad bit too original.
Further reason ArenaNet needs to keep those servers running.
"A" for effort!

I appologize if you don't like my suggestion, but hitting someone with pots just doesn't fit in the game. It doesn't. The reason most new classes don't have your sort of "x" factor is because they want to function under at least some sembalence of logical combat, and within the constraints of the game.
I'm just going to have to say no to the class, since you obviously have no wish to tweak it.
However, I will leave your suggestion in my link thread. I respect the creativity.
