Maybe the extra speed the primary attribute gives you doesn't stack? That would keep them from being an unfair running class.
Thanks

I take it you and your mount would be separate targets for the enemy? I meant the huge pheonixes by the emperor after you beat shiro :P. Not the smaller ones. Yes, it would be better if the attribute doesn't stack.

You could balance the amount of damage that the character does with a mount, by simply limiting the damage range of the weapon. I mean if your spear was only able to deal half of the amount it would have otherwise dealt, and the pet dealt the other half. Say for instance:
Normally: 16 - 35
Now for You: 8 - 17
Now for Mount: 8 - 17

You and your mount are they same target. When they target you and attack you they are attacking your mount and you at the same time! However makeing you and you rmount separate targets but with the same health bar is something to consider.

I like the idea. A rider I think the primray should be dual attack. That would be skills thatcuase both to attack at the same time. with out these the animal will be just like doylaks. They al;so should there best skill called breacking so it only works on large creatures like drakes or dragons and such (a rider on a warthog would look silly).

Maybe it's been said already but a bit too lazy to read as i want to give some ideas to quickly :P
In my opinion the beast you ride shouldn't be a damage dealer, It should only give you a boost in speed. But not in such amount that it's too fast.
Like for instance 2 attribute points for 1% speed increase.
Beast Riding should idd not be the primary attribute. Skills like for instance trample (each foe gets knockdown when hit by this attack) etc. could be implemented in this.
The 'Fearlessness' that you came up with seems a much more likely candidate for the Primary. That could give you the enhancement in health and armor increase seeing as both you and your mount receive the damage and have to split it between both.
As for weapons a lance/mace could be the best option (well since the Paragon now exists it's a bit useless) but still many more new weapon types aren't really needed atm.
Fourth attribute not really thought off yet.
