I'm all for it! I don't think it'll happen, but oh the possibilities...
I too was dissappoined when they wrote "cutomization" and it turned out to be just the ability to put on a new mod. I had really hoped to be able to put on different hilts with different looks and stuff, but... Oh well...
A suggestion? Well, most has been said but I'd think it'd be great if you could name your weapon or shield. This would, of course, customize the weapon automatically. Why? Because if I met someone with a really cool weapon I'd like to buy, I'd walk away immidiately if it was called "the poopslinger" or something like that. I dunno about you, but I noticed how many people have ridiculous names for characters. I won't want that on some cool-ass weapon.
Oh yeah, /übersigned

I think this would be so good for the game, and it may even rekindle some peoples' intrest in it. And having the crafter require materials and having better looking mods as you progress is the way to go.

Great idea! I would love to be able to customise my weapon to make the aesthetics suit my liking! :P
Also, it would be great for fans of the anime Bleach. /swordname Zangetsu

Nah, I would prefer to be able to call my weopon whatever I want.

yeah, name in the title. and to quote and old post...

once again. the underline here is originality being able to show off your cool looking stuff is why people go for 15k and FoW armor. its just that cool. same thing as a signature skill (kudos to symeon)its all about being what you want to. which is why id like to see more options for character appearance in creation for chap 2. but thats just a side note. this kind of a thing would make me sooooo happy. and it would finally give rubys a use.

Wow this would make life great. Items that are good because their stats, not their looks would become the highest priced! Now my falchion with the same stats as a fellblade will sell at the same price because you can make them look as cool as you want. Sweet.

and the name of each sword would be your characters name, followed by sword, axe, whatever.
"Akhilleus Pthius' Sword" FTW. (or make it renamable, like pets)
as for the materials, im thinking you have to get a "weapon-liscence" which can be achjieved form some massive, arduous quest that takes multiple people and hours of work.
then, you take it to the forgemaster in the fissure of woe or wherever, and it needs like 500 iron ingots, 50 steel ingots. (wooden planks for an axe) and like a 15k craft cost. and each area the swrd is available in has its own "locational" look.
like a sword crafted form forgemaster would have options on the "eviler" side, one crafted in ascalon region would have a more playful or natural look. that way you end up with sword classes equivilant to fow armor and 15k armor.
that way when someone walks around with a pimp-assed sword design it begs the response "OMFG!"

I agree with the above. So long as the crafted weapon models don't use the existing super-uniques models such as fellblades, crystallines, ghostly's, eternals, and other typical UW/Fow-only gear, then this idea is perfectly fine. This way, such existing gear aren't impacted value-wise, yet true gear appearance customization is taken a step forward.

No...
Only the rich people and the people who play Guild Wars like a religion would be able to achieve these weapons that way.

This is, hands down, a fantastic idea. I would love to be able to name my bow something better then "Fiery Ascalon Bow of Fortitude" and to be able to fiddle with it's looks, maybe add some runic symbols or something like that...That'd be hot.
A step in a very cool direction, to be sure.

yeah, this is a concern mentioned by many, and i think that it would be best if it became "Characters Name's" whatever and then you can chose to add a suffix. there would need to be pre-set selections, becuase there will always be someone who goes into a group and says: I'm Wielding Super Noob's Vampiric Fellblade of #@!$ $%&!
annoying, though most likely nessicary. im more than open to suggestions on how to solve this problem. because if you can make it look like you, you should be able to name it.

hmm, sounds like what u can do in Neverwinter Nights' Aurora Toolset; i like it
-I WANT THE OPTION TO MAKE WEAPONS WITH GLOWING EFFECTS (ie Icy glows with a blue-white aura...if u've played NWN you sorta know what i mean...when u add a visual effect on a weapon:Evil glows red, Holy glows yellowish-white, etc)
@Anet
if u do do this, allow for more than 5 possible graphics

Something like a custom shop might work in a mmorpg, but, this is more a mmog or corpg as Anet puts it. Not a mmorpg which so many are trying to trun it into from all the whinning and crying and complaining that Joe Blow's got more than I got and it just isn't FAIR! lol

your so wrong that's just what we need to do destroy the elitits.
if you haven't ever noticed they are such ***holish pricks who think they are better than everyone els just cause they are little better or have something rare.

Sorry, but, this isn't Socialist China, this is Capitalist America. See that "alist" in Capitalist? It's part of the American and even some European ways now. Having more than the next guy, standing out, LOOKING important, even though you may be an ignorant dog. Rich people/poor people, it's that way in all of life, even games online.
So I have to vote negative on changes like this also. Need to have something post 20 that shows one has earned/done more than the next guy. It gives something for the lower 80% to work and strive for even though only 2% will ever make it.
