Default Ascalon, pre and post

As much as I like the game, there is something that bothers me about ascalon some. Pre searing it is great. I like the looks of it. People-wise, it is a much better place. Gwen is also probably a better healer than Alesia since she doesn't get herself killed while you are fighting monsters. Then you do the academy quest and go searing. The area looks awful. People are a bit different too. From who I've talked to, presearing seems to be more liked as well, so I know this isn't just me.

I understand that searing is in. But maybe in the next chapter, can something be done about the ascalon areas and the transition? Make the landscape a little less bleak. Get rid of all the crystals and have the grass and trees growing again and the water blue and safe. Open some new charr areas north of the wall if you want to keep bleakness.

Maybe make the transition a little more gradual so the people don't change as much. Make a time portal so some of the PC's can come back, perhaps spending a little time away from the rat race would do people good. Maybe we could get see the temple and more of ascalon before it gets ruined. If possible, let us pluck some of the NPC's in to the future so they aren't dead or if they were missing, it's because we went back and saved them earlier.

That, sir, would ruin the story. I agree there should be a place that looks like pre-searing ascalon, but nah, not like this.

I actually enjoyed going back and leveling my new characters to around level 8 in Pre-Sear for that reason. I just love how beautiful everything looks.

But you are dealing with a war. A war where a magical weapon of incredible destruction has been used on an area. It will never recover again for a long time.

But that is part of the story as well, leaving the old and looking for new lands. Perhaps a newer idyllic place will be introduced in an expansion.

But Ascalon is dead...

I would like a low level area that is this beautiful. Kryta and Maguuma are really nice, but you always have to be on your guard there, even at level 20 it's not exactly a cake walk, and it's downright dangerous if you're going without a party or henchmen...

If you don't like the Ruins of Ascalon, then don't hang out there. Move on to the prettier parts of the game.

For what it's worth, it would greatly surprise me if we don't, in some future expansion, return to Ascalon. Who knows what the place will be like after it's had a few more years to recover from the Searing? Particularly if things grow back different, due to the influence of all these magical crystals about.

It's raining on the day we "save" Rin. The land can't remain a blasted desert forever. The only question is, what will it become?

Brandon, I hope they do add another grassland-Ascalon area. Another possibility is they give people a one chance stop the super weapon mission when they go through the academy. If you stop it, the war is still on, but ascalon isn't ruined.

Dr Slug, I've been to kryta, but don't care too much for jungles. Don't know about Maguuma.

Dreamsmith, I try not to, but there is the arena, and skill quests and all that. Plus my main was a warrior so I had to farm charr for their hides... dumb ascalon armor. I like the shiverpeaks, but it is different. It's also a people thing a little as well. By lion's arch it seems half the chat or more is people spamming the things they want to sell.

I think I now know wher I have gone wrong. I have been seared at level 4 and consequently I have no chance of surviving in old Ascalon. Is the idea to play longer in the presearing bit but how do you avoid the movie clip and being seared. Do you stay away from the academy? Put another way how do you ensure you stay in the pre-seared game

Bingo, don't talk to the academy guy if you want to stay in pre searing and don't click okay for all those "are you sure you want to move on" warnings
