This is a massive multiplayer online role playing game, you play it with other people co-operatively. ANET is encouraging us to communicate in-game and to form groups with other players from across the globe. Henchmen are mearly back-up fighters. If your trying to get a group together for a mission and you can't find a much needed second monk you can grab one and go. Of course the henchmen would not have the skill level of an average player (or maybe its better then teh player you woulda picked up [lol!!!!]) but a henchmen is not meant to be your primary choice of a teammate. Now if Guild Wars was not a MMORPG I could understand the whole customize your henchmen idea. Lets say that ANET did implement your super smart henchmen idea. What would the result be? Everyone would be using henchmen and no one would be trying to team up with other players!! This would defeat the purpose of a MMORPG.

To sum it all up, Guild Wars was meant to be played with other players. Henchmen mearly server as back-ups.
As nice as it would be to have these super smart henchmen I believe that over all it would ruin the game since everyone would rely on henchmen and not enjoy the fun of playing with real people.

P.S. This is just my opinion and if you don't like it that's great, get over it.
Now, I personally do not believe that Guild Wars is an MMORPG. When you think about it, it is exactly like Diablo. The towns and outposts represent the Dioblo chat area, but when you want to actually fight things you can only take 8 people, same as diablo. No one was calling diablo an MMO. In a real MMO you meet other people along the way out side of towns.

Now back on topic, no one here wants you to stop playing with real people. But like someone said, it is hard to find other people (monks in particular) to play with. Its a real drag to get your party set up for a mission and spend an hour trying to get a monk, now of course you could grab one, but wait, both hench monks are stupid and try to tank for the party. Or you have a good party going and you need want a trapper ranger to complete the group, well just grab a hench... o wait, you can't. All we're asking is a little bit more flexibility in our henchmen.

Cheers for LifeInfusion!
Cheers for ANET!

Another solid evidence that ANET reads the forums.

I was thinking of something like secoudary for henchies mostly /mo.I would saty this is good idea but i don't think Anet want to do any improvements on the henchies in Tyria or now Cantha maybe Nightfall. The scarce Tyria and Canta become it would be great addition but I doubt they would want to do it unless there is still playing Tyria or rerolling started to complian about them more and more.Good Idea Life where is the Mo/W btw?

No I only bumped because I am proving to you they do read the forums. Another HUGE example is the titles idea by actionjack.

well... I also did have a post about customize henches.....
but congrad to LifeInfusion.

anyhow.. I am still interested to see how they will handle hench customization... be it where you can actually equip them with the skill and equipment you want, or like LifeInfusion put it, just have lots customized build template.

Adding to that, I agree on the need for more hench build. One suggestion I had is to seperate the two, between the RP-Driven Henchies (who offer more customizblity, but is part of instaized NPC, as each one's hench will be at differnt lv and development), Versus getting the "Mercs" from a Merc Guild.

Much like how LifeInfusion put it, in town, there are tents set up by the Merc Guild (an NPC run guild). You can talk to the leader, who would open up an menu for you to add differnt builds of hench as you want them. (since I just think 30 hench standing is not very good). Also could possible have where you can take on repeating builds ("get me 7 monks!"). Of couse, the Merc would still take part of your item drops.

And more, include a possiblity to buy or unlock more Merc types. So say a lv 22 MM Merc is not avalible at first, but if you pay them some fees or do some quest, you can have it ready to join (and maybe with additional fees too, if need be) Things like that.

They have been advertising customizable henchmen for Nightfall for weeks now, is this something different?

So we already are getting this, unless it is actually something different or more, all this discussion about whether or not it is good enough is kind of silly...
