Would be nice to see some Dungeons in GW...
Don’t take me wrong...Guild Wars is an AWESOME game, but still, I miss a LOT some Dungeons in it. I for one never played "real" RPG (books or cards or whatever) and even on the computer ones, the only one I ever played was Guild Wars, Diablo 2 (VERY little...for about 1 month max.) and a game called NOX some years ago, but still, I REALY miss doing dungeons, something all these games had.
Well...the missions in GW are nice and enjoyable, but we lack more caverns, and crypts and so to explore. The closest I ever get to those was Sorrows Furnace and Catacombs (yes, the pre - searing one) and they were the areas where I had most fun till now (I have been playing for over a year now). What I would really want is scary and narrow dark corridors filled with traps and closed doors that requires you to think how to get trough it in order to get to big goal in the end.
Urgoz is a nice advance to that goal, but the "by numbers" approach that Anet took in it really bugs me off. TONSSSSS of easy killed monsters does not make for 1 smart / bad ass one. Also, that REALLYYYYYYY cheap traps that can kill the entire party if you don’t know the trick (e.g. warden room) is simply sad cause it doesn’t require thinking to get trough it...
Also the atmosphere in Urgoz is not pretty compelling. I REALY want to see torture chambers and squeletons with swords wandering around and maybe even a “solo able” area where the party limit is one so you really have the felling of an abandoned mine or something like that. I really miss it, and since GW is the only RPG i play I would love to see some areas like that added to the game.
Well, I tried my best to describe my idea, hope you guys got the picture, and IF you don’t, just remember the underground of the monastery on Diablo 2...it is something like that I want to see here
Latter.

You should go to Sorrow's Furnace. Total underground mining dungeons there. There are even slave creatures there.
I'd also like to see the usual castles and dungeons, things like that. There are some things in GW that involves the environment, like opening gates and such. But usually it's simply click on the name of some object or drop an object somewhere.

I would like to see the catacombs reopened as a high level area. That's one of the best designed areas in the game, such a shame we only see it for a short period.
/signed for more dungeons

the reason that GW doesn't have many dungeons is because GW is above that common philosophy. dungeons are normally just underground areas where there are alot of more powerful monsters that have no reason to be there other than to be a bigger challange for players.

OK...so what would you call Urgoz? Deep? Toa?
They are almost what I want, but still not quite.
Theres no need to think before proceding, theres NO dificult monsters (only numerous ones) and theres NO scary atmosphere at all...I miss the old days of exploring DII dungeons and caves whtth almost no visibility of what was coming just to see a big vampire jump out of the shadow...
I know this is a GW competitor, but what I want is more like this:
http://www.gametrailers.com/player.p...pe=wmv&pl=game
And for the possible comments of: "If you want that gameplay go and buy that game!" Well...GW is completely cappable of doing stuff like that (not the jumping and climbing ladders thought...) like we saw almost perfect whith Sorrows Furnace and the Catacombs, what we realy need is more diversity and complexity of those, and no more ToAs and Urgoz please, I got my share of those...

I happen to like FoW, UW, The Deep and Urgoz. They are fun :P
Diversity is good though and more high level areas are good.

I dont want to see Catacombs oppened again, it where good but I have a permanent pre - searing char that goes there in regular bases ^^
What I want is new content...maybe in the same way they did Sorrows Furnace, maybe in a new Chapter (who knows....maybe Nightfall have some of this already, lets hope ).
Also, i think those "40 men RAIDS" doesnt belong here, my idea is the exactely oposite. 1 person dungeons or even a 3 or 4 is the best I can think off. All the dark atmosphere is lost if you are down there whith half an army ^^

More dungeons crawling would be great!
It's just that with 3D games the camera is an entity and can't be constrained by low ceilings and narrow corridors. The tunnels need to be high and wide so the camera doesn't constantly move your perspective when hitting the ceilings or walls.

Because open combat often happens in "Dungeons".....
dun‧geon, Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[duhn-juhn]
1. a strong, dark prison or cell, usually underground, as in a medieval castle.
Battle in Alkatraz, really, battles belong in battlefields, Battles in Castle settings would be very interesting, but outside of a few very buff prison Guards, Dungeons are not the scene of battle. Perhaps Lairs, Hideouts, Strongholds, Guild Halls.... oh wait.

Yes, dungeon is the way to go, espeically for the instaize group game play of GW.
I will bump my Wonder Cave/Dungeon thread... give it a look to see if it is good or not.

One of the things that first captivated me about guild wars was how beautiful the scenery was. I would spend hours running around, doing quests, and just exploring because everything was so beautiful. I think it would really help to add an immersion to the world if while running around you could stumble upon a cave or something, go inside and have it filled with fire imps or something. Just a thought I suppose, but it would be nice.

I think they should expand the pre-searing, make a level 20 version of it, increse the party size to 6 and make the monsters level 20+, and catacombs ftw.

That is not trouth.
Just look at the video I posted before (http://www.gametrailers.com/player.p...pe=wmv&pl=game) and you will see that is completely possible to create dark / small corridors whith a 3D camera, making it viable and still claustrophobic.

I loved the old dungeon crawling games and I'd like too see some of your ideas used in GW. Especially the eerie dark torture chamber type areas.
Your idea and actionjack's would merge perfectly.
