Swirling Aura
This is a suggestion that maybe something should be done to boost Swirling Aura. Or, maybe we could just get rid of it if it's not going to be boosted. My reasoning for thinking that this skill sucks is as follows:
1. Swirling Aura has a 50% chance to block. This is not nearly as good as many many skills that have a 75% chance.
2. Swirling Aura can only block projectiles. Projectiles can be dodged anyways, and they arent as common of a threat at all as a melee attack or a spell.
3. Swirling Aura can last for a maximum of 18 seconds. Now, that is actually pretty good for a dodge or block skill, but it becomes apparent why this is a problem when we see number four.
4. Swirling Aura has a 60 second recharge time! That is a very long recharge. Especially for this particular skill, and since it only lasts for 18 seconds, that leaves 42 seconds that this skill is even more worthless than if its on you.
I really don't see any purpose to bring swirling aura to any form of pvp or pve. Of course, though, I'm open to change my opinion if someone could tell me that I've been missing something about this skill, and that it has some actual practical purpose.
Thank you.

Welcome to the elementalist. Where poor defense options (in comparison to other classes) are the norm...
Seriously though, yes. Swirling Aura is indeed rubbish. Rangers a very good against elementalists. They have better armour than eles against their own spells. Making them generally harder to kill than warriors. They have abilities to render elemental spells impossible to cast (dazed, interruption), and the only defense against thoses arrows are the crappy Swirling Aura and the much stronger (but still more or less 50/50) Sliver armour.
In all honesty, your better off blinding the ranger or hexing them with Blurred Vision. Swirling really needs it's duration and recharge dropped. Sliver Armour is a perfect example of how a defense enchantment should be treated. Despite only offering a 52% chance to evade anything.

Does A-net really look at these forums? because I looked through some other threads in here that contained swirling aura, and many of them said what I said. This skill sucks. None of them that I saw were specifically dedicated to this skill, but many of them did mention it, and mention how awful it is. I would think they would have done something about it by now, or at least tell people why they don't believe that swirling aura needs buffed.

If memory serves, this skill used to also have a chance to block magical attacks. That's not so bad then, is it? I noticed the change maybe a couple weeks ago and chuckled. Look, another elementalist skill that isn't worth a slot on your bar.

Yes, Arena Net never reads these forums, I mean they never made any sugestions into real skills...

Swirling Aura is a rather pointless skill, to a degree...
Water Elementalists aren't the best in self defence. If you really want defence as an elementalist, use earth magic.

Didn't this skill used to have a 75% chance? I thought it was similar to Magnetic Aura, but blocked projectiles and magic projectiles.
I agree too. At the very least, it should be able to be kept up easily forever. Water Magic is the 2nd most defensive element, next to Earth Magic.
