punishment for leaving at beginning
normally i don't give a *FUDGE*, but people (some repeat offenders) are starting to repeatly/consecutively leave their teams in PVP right out of the starting gate...
perhaps remove faction points, make a faction debt, adjust slower punishment join time or take some gold or something... its *MENTALLY CHALLENGED* playing 3v4 all day long
(though i like the free faction for beating the crap out of the team who had this guy/people)
i understand being disconnected or needing to go change your build
but this is being done by blatant "ditchers"
and these people obviously don't give a *FUDGE* either
also the fun necro suiciders are "cool" but rare as well
on the random respawn PVP map (with countdown timer)
sometimes entire teams leave and the other team is left to either go back to base or wait a whole 2 minutes + (the afterparty 30 seconds) for a new game
BUT
on the other hand of this scenario... i'd like a new go straight back to lastmap button... or "B" for back to base implanted in the game
leaving after your team dies, there is a chase/runner ranger or something, or your team just lost everyone and whoever is left isn't rezzing are acceptible reasons for wanting to quickly get back to base... (background: you open that huge map and you have to search around for the place you are really at (the random team arena) instead of the "actual" actual location of the map)

I read your post diagonally, and agree with most of it, but I advise you to remove the offensive language. It reduces a good idea to the level of a mindless rant, and the moderators don't like it (or better: nobody likes it, but the moderators have the power to punish you for it). Just a tip!
I'll sign it as soon as certain words have been removed...

How do you propose to have the game determine whether or not someone had a "valid" reason for leaving? Everyone gets annoyed when this happens, and it does happen from time to time, but instituting some sort of punishment for it will not make the problem go away. People who really need to leave for some reason, or who get disconnected for some reason, will be understandably frustrated by what you're proposing. And those people who actually get a kick out of screwing over a random team aren't going to be dissuaded from doing so by the loss of a few faction points.

I get disconnected all the time now for some reason....
and B is used for Observer Mode....
But maybe if A.Net could make it so that you couldnt leave a PvP match through choice....that would be different.

I don't think this would solve anything either. Suppose ANet prevented people from using map travel during a PvP match. Someone who wants to leave will just quit and restart the game instead, and will be irritated that this less convenient method of leaving was necessary. I hope you aren't suggesting going even further and trying to prevent people from closing the game in the middle of a PvP match, since that would be exceptionally poor design. Even if you could prevent someone from leaving the game, someone who really doesn't want to play anymore, or can't play anymore (say, someone who's just gotten an important phone call) doesn't have to keep playing just because they're required to stay in the arena. They can just stand there and wait to die, which has the same effect on the team as leaving.

/signed If you have a valid reason for leaving you should not sweat -20 faction. People that ditch routinely may start to notice a consequence?? Anyone that goes negative (-) faction, could be executed!

The point is that someone who's disgusted with a team or just wants to be a [jerk] won't sweat -20 faction either; I can't see this accomplishing anything. I do kind of like the execution part though. ANet should have a team of ninjas that they dispatch to deal with people who egregiously violate the terms of use.

Implement a timer for accounts.
Leave a match once - no penalty
Leave a match for a second time within say a 30 minute timer: -50 faction and timer is renewed for another 30 minutes.
Leave a match for a third time while timer is still active: -200 faction and timer renewed
Leave a match for a fourth time (etc etc): -500 faction and timer renewed.
Leave a match for a fifth time: -1000 faction and timer renewed.
Continue to double the punishment after that, renewing the timer for another 30 minutes each time. By renew I mean the timer changes back to 30 minutes, not that the remaining time is added to 30 minutes.
This does not punish people who have to leave for an emergency. Those emergency leavers' timers will be reset after the 30 minutes, which shouldn't be a problem because hey, they had to leave for something important.

If people are continuously losing their connection within a 30 minute period it's a little mean to play in a place where other people are counting on them for support. If it's not a continuous thing, then, doesn't take long for the timer to run out.. that's like 4 matches.

1,000 word essay written to the teamates and A-net, if they find the reason to be poor due to lameness that bad dude gets all his/her/it faction taken away and split amongst his team on top of that a one week ban from any PvP area should do fine. Call me a little over the top but I just love justice.

What happens when you have zero faction points? Zero Gold?? Yes I know some people ( a little 14 year old girl in fact who never has any money or faction lol she spends like crazy in the game). It's really silly to try to control it. Just start another battle it's that easy, only take you 34 seconds at the most. When people become this nitpicky because of ingame silliness or pranks, they need to look for another game to play. Don't take it so seriously it's only a "game".

oh no losing faction....... *points out that most people have a global unlock and dont need faction*
Beside the globals everywhere Error 7 is a major issue. You cant punish people for getting error 7.

TheSonofDarwin is proposing this - it's a good idea and has been suggested before, although perhaps not in such harsh terms:
Implement a timer if you have left a team. If you leave a match, you must wait 30 seconds to enter again.
IF you have net err=7, it will probably take you 30 seconds or more to restart, right?
IF you leave to go help a guildie on a mission, it will probably take you 30 seconds or more to do that mission, right?
IF you leave because you don't want your time wasted on what seems to be a loser team - perhaps you will think twice and just fight for 30 seconds rather than waiting around twiddling your thumbs for 30 seconds. Right?
For those who believe this is a petty whine: I have had entire stretches of time where people have left over and over. We all want faction, we all want the chance to win.
In a particular instance, in the Shiverpeak arena (don't start with me ), I overheard several people discussing that they would try to get on the same team together. Two people trying to get on the same team? All right, it's possible. But THREE? Needless to say, that arena was absolutely unplayable for an entire day as these folks entered matches, left. Entered matches, left.
I saw it over and over and over; reported them for griefing (because they had been discussing their plan in local, I could show pre-meditation through the screenshot). Not sure anything happened.

I like this idea. One of my biggest pet peaves/annoyances with PvP are these people that just leave and think it's funny. Same with Sacrificers, although they are a bit more rare. A valid reason to leave..ok otherwise.
PUNISH THE LEAVERS!!!!

/signed for leaving punishment.
Here's what I want, CLEAR ALL factions when people leave before the game even start (i.e. Time before Game Start 00:00)
-1000 Faction when game first start, and punishment diminish to 0 when game reach 1 minute.

They will never impliment a punishment for leavers. If they did, it would only make leachers an even bigger problem.
