Merchant modification: let em talk to traders!
I suggest that [merchant] NPCs learn to use prices of goods that [trader] NPCs buy their goods for.
i.e. selling rune, dye, materials, gold XP scrolls ... to merchant and trader would yield same price, item would be added to supply of traders if sold.
Reason: stop presear dye scams , stop silly selling runes for more to one trader than the other, protect newbies finding rare materials from cluelessly merching then for 100 gold...

Although it would be a nice idea, traders have the 'request quote' button for a reason. Youd have to add these buttons to the merchant for the fluctuating prices, and only sell 1 or 10 items at a time. And i hate pushing extra buttons!

There is nothing easier:
'request quote' button'can be taken away - just sell button. if price that is currently shown at trader is correct, sale will be made, if not, sale is not made, price shown is updated and player is asked if selling for updated price is ok.
Teach Traders to buy whole stacks. Simply internally sell it one by one, when sold enough to trader to change prices, stop and tell players how many did he sell and if its okay to sell rest for new price.

This is a pointless suggestion. The merchants handle items at a constant price; traders handle fluctuating prices. As far as dye scams and rare material; they can figure it out just like everyone else. All traders have the same prices; there isn't a secret one somewhere that will give you more money for your runes.

No, it's not. The merchant does NOT allways give you more money. As a matter of fact there are times when a merchant will give you MUCH less than trader. The Trader price fluctuates so it's based on supply & demand. If it's really high, you'll get much more money at the trader.

He was implying that for the majority of runes the merchant will give you more for them if they are not salvaged from the armor prior to selling. There are few runes that are worth more than the armor they are in, just keep some notes of which they are or visit the trader before salvaging.

Here is why, merchants take out items from the economy, traders keep them there. If this was implimented, I would ALWAYS sell to the merchant. Here is why...
Lets say I have 8000 black dyes to sell (or ectos, whatever). If I sold all 8000 of them to the trader at once, the price of black dye would drop at the trader (since I would be flooding the supply side of the supply-demand line). Therefore, I would gradually make less money. If I dumped stuff into the merchant, I would be able to keep the supply low and keep the price high and make a larger profit (since nobody could buy up my black dye, it would keep the supply limited). Anybody who is smart and understands economics would do that when selling and always sell to the merchant in order to inflate prices in the traders, and thus make even more money. This would then cause prices at the traders for all materials, dyes, runes, etc. to skyrocket.
