Social activities
I know this request may seem a bit irrelevant to the game Guild Wars and I'm not saying this is needed but wouldn't it be neat if there were places where people could hang around, chat and do little things that make the place seem, livelier?
Perhaps a tavern where people can walk in, buy a glass of something to drink, actually sit down at a table and chat with some friends. How about a cafe where there are seats outside and you can sit at a table and drink coffee while viewing at the sea from where you're sitting. Or how about a theater house where guilds can host a play for people to watch (charging them for tickets), and guild members would dress up in costumes and act out (talk in character and do gestures) their role?
Just an idea I thought up to spice up the environment

Oh that would be good too. Like betting on horse races. But there'd naturally be a limit on how much you can win. You can also make use of the emotes like /roll # and possibly introduce to new mini games like cards. These bigger activites would need their own districts probably but it'll give a reason to have indoors!! Wooo!

Places are not lively enough? When was the last time you dropped by Ascalon, LA, Droks, Kaineng, Cavalon, HzH, and Kamadan?
All your suggested "social activities" doesn't really add anything to the game. You can already do those things if position your cameras well, or gather your social groups in one place.

I meant the environment. The people are very much lively and I thought it'd be nice to give them something to play around with. And I know, as I sort of stated, that this idea doesn't add anything much to the actual game but it wouldn't hurt to give some interactivity in towns and outposts.

A long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, time ago....( a year and a half ago to be exact) Guild wars had the /roll# emote, what apend to it you ask, simple Anet revome it, why you ask? cause the Casino Spam was worst then the WTS/WTB spam.
And by casino spam I mean : bet # of money 90 under you lose 91-99 higher you win x 3 your money, 100= x4 money.
/not signed to bring back /roll #
other activety, I'm open to them.

I've seen this idea pitched before but that's okay. I'd like to see this happen. Like a live action Sims, but all the characters are actual people. And if there's a way to get the "WTS WTB" clutter out of chat. Interactive emotes like hugs and handshakes. Tables to sit at.
I did like how the Halloween event got a lotta people to wear pumpkin and witch hats. Forget making those rare. Let everyone have them and wear them for a while. Same with Christmas. Puts a different festive mood in the game each time and helps to keep things interesting.

<facetious>My freinds and I often go for a dip at the beach in the higher zones in LA... It would be great if they could add some towels and an umbrella and maybe a beach ball </facetious>

Oh I like the beach thing. That's cool. I just think it's sad that there are so many little spots in towns and outposts that could be used for a little fun such as the boat in arena outposts. Just a little interactivity with the surroundings would go very far. People won't have to just stand around.
I think the Auction House would fix most of the WTB/WTS clutter.
I'm starting to grow on the theater house idea though. It'd be great to have something like that in town and guilds can register to hold little events and shows for people to watch.
Again, this is just a little bonus for all the social people in town who just want to have fun.

I have had fun interacting in the guild hall. But it's not the same as if we had a full functional tavern or a town outpost specifically for this. If there was something like this and people can get to it early in the game, I know a lot of people would buy GW just for that.

Well I guess my whole idea is something to show that people are relaxing and having fun (other than typing it out in the chatbox). Yeah you can dance and sit around around but it'd be so much cooler if you could dance onstage or sit where people (especially people with good clothes) would actually sit. And possibly order a little dessert and a drink.
Not to make this game too much like the Sims but a bit of that is good.

Yeah GW does need some social hotspots, they only way that I seem to meet anyone is by helping random people, or just plain pissing around...

Maybe a Master Chatroom?
GW Forum?
RP-District?
Fisherman's Heaven? (less populated outpost)
Traven and Bars has been suggested before... Theater sounds nice, if have NPC plays... Music Hall might be a good relaxing place too...

If you want to partake in social activities, get off the computer. I play Guildwars to enjoy the sanctuary that is my room. I'd prefer guild wars to be less social, all people do is piss me off and stress me out.
I'd rather see updates that actually involve the game, not useless activities for people who are bored.

Actually it's always nice to joke about stuff or just chat about stuff like prior GW events... until some idiot yells "Stop complaining and play the game!"
[EDIT] Edit, actually, there was a suggestion before of adding a pub or tavern to Droknar's Forge...

I see what you want here, but I don't think that you really need a special place just to hang out and chat. So many places like that already exist.
What I CAN get behind (and have asked for long ago somewhere on this forum) is a new group of islands like the map that cointains the Guild Hall and PvP arenas.
What I imagine being done here would be a collection of mini-games. It would be easy to create a fantasy themed casino with a decent range of gambling activities. Giant beetle races anyone? Card games, dice games, prize wheels, etc. Like in the real world, the odds favor the house and ANET wins by being able to reclaim some of the gold in the economy.
And what about other mini-games like you can get on Pogo? Very simple to program, dress them up in a fantasy skin, and you have a little spot to retreat to while you are sick of missions but feel like killing some time.
I even remember old games like Quest for Glory having little dagger throwing games.
Mix all this into some beautiful new towns, all themed of course, and you have something for the more hardcore rpg fans to do with their characters.
Whole thing could be a small side expansion, maybe like $10-20. Only thing is, this will never happen. The Guild Wars devs. are not interested in making a game for roleplayers. They are more interested in developing new (whole) games and improving PvP. So you're kinda looking at the wrong game for that whole meaningful character fix. This game is a (very fun) Diablo/Magic the Gathering hybrid and will never be anything more, they could care less about unique characters and things for people to do on thier downtime.
EDIT: Speaking of stuff that will never happen... I want to add REAL upgrades to my guild hall.
And I want a house. A place that I can upgrade with new rooms and decorations. A place where I can store my armors on mannequins, place my weapons on the wall, and put a collection of runes and holiday items on a shelf... and so much more... but again, will never happen.

We're not trying to find a replacement for real life social activities. I'd like to see this in GW for some more variety. Sometimes I don't feel like doing any quests, missions, elite capping, etc. But I want to log into the game just to go around and do whatever, knowing I can leave any time I want, whether it's 2 minutes or an hour.
