There is a buff class, and they can heal over time. They're called Paragons.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the healers we have now. People have to quit relying on the monks to heal them when they're being stupid.
If the healing got better, the players would suck more.
Don't put yourself in the position where you take a lot of damage, and you won't REQUIRE healing.

if you want to fight with an axe, sword or bow why don't you just create a warrior and a ranger? just alternate between them and your monk.
monks are perfectly fine the way they are now. Easy to do good in most areas, but in the few areas which are supposed to be tough, it can be tough if you don't know what you're doing. Just like any other class.

not all of us have the expansion.
And monks are not fine they way they are. Too much micro involved with healing. That's not fun

Then don't play a monk. If you don't enjoy it, play something else, there are 6 to 10 professions to choose from.
Not everyone has the mindset needed to play the role of a healer, one of working for the good of the team and letting others do the "exciting" work of killing critters.

Seriously, you're a monk. You have a base max armor level of 60, leave the sword swinging and tanking to the ones with higher armorlevel. Keep them alive so that they can keep you alive.
I use a sword on my monk too, +5 energy variation and I don't attack.

There are some combat monk builds but really smiting or healing is what you want to go with. Noone is forcing you to be a monk anyway... some people love healing others.

Yes I agree! I love my melee monk! Melee monks own! Heres my build:
Frenzy
Heal Signet
Mending
Healing Breeze
Charge {Elite}
Bane Signet
Signet of Capture
Life Attunement
This build so owns all! I normally tank all the melee enemies and spam frenzy to gain extra attacks and damage.
I can live with the 60% DP and the mass quitters! This build also doubles as a farm build for farming Mantids in Sunqua Vale

I’ve been away from the game for 6months. That echo stuff looks powerful.
Why is there a shortage of monks & healers? Cause it needs to be a lil more exciting.

Avoiding the easy shot of telling you to go to Droks/Elona Reach/Etc. look at it logically.
With there now being 10 classes that leaves ~10% of people playing going to be primary monks.
Now in a group you don't have the option of taking 10 people, you have 8 for a good portion of the game, and couple the fact that people want at least 2 monks per group, so you have 25% of the groups being monks, which is more than double what you are going to have in a perfect world.
Factor in Chaos Theory (read:75% of people playing are 'wamo's at heart) means people who aren't seeing themselves do big damage numbers think they're useless and get bored. You have no one to blame but yourself if you are sitting around forever waiting for 2 monks to do a mission: For one, henchmen work fine. And secondly, if every damn warrior wasn't running around spamming frenzy in the middle of an army of afflicted with the exception of a few missions, you don't even need two monks, one is more than sufficient.
As mentioned previously, if you want to be doing the big damage play a class nd bring a few for critical moments when things get hairy.

Prot Monks (and other class builds) prevent damage. Heal Monks pickup whatever the Prot doesn't catch. This requires the 2 monk deal, which is problemsome as Xioden mentioned. But, in most areas, you have a prot hench and a heal hench. Specialization is key.

Like: - Absorption Shield
- Healing Breeze2
- Renew
- Armor Buff/Holy Armor
- Blessing of Might…
Being a monk, I don’t mind buffing before a fight, but during, I’d like to fight too! I don’t want to keep looking at the health bars. I want to see monsters too. I like to melee with sword, ax or spear. Sometimes I like to use bows also.
The less micro the better.

The more micro the better you are at being a Monk and you already got a weapon it called a wand or staff use it and learn your role.I will say this if you want to melee mobs go and play Warrior like I do.

Oh please tell me you were joking just then...
Honestly, if you want more variety with monk abilities, buy the other campaigns and play the specialist classes.
