Why the cost of skills in PvE should be lowered
I know this has been suggested many times, but I do not see it suggested with this reasoning.
The 1k per skill system were brought to us around the time of the SF update, 1 year ago.
Now, things have changed since then. Only 2 weeks ago, the faction gain was doubled, effectively halving the cost of skill unlocks in PvP.
In both GWF and GWN, skill points are easy to come by, taking much less effort than in GWP.
But the skill cost? Still 1k, after this year where a lot of changes have happened.
You "lower" the cost of skills in PvP because you obviously want us to be able to catch up on the skill unlocking.
You also make it a bit easier to come by skill points in PvE. But the skills still cost 1k?
So, by that logic, the halved cost of skills in PvP, why can't ANet also halve the cost of skills in PvE to 500g?
I am sure a lot of people would appreciate it.

I agree although many people probably won't. It's not that hard to get all the skills for your profession, the only problem really comes when you want to change your second profession. So many skills to buy and it's especially annoying when you already have those skills unlocked on another character.

I don't see much reason to lower the max cost since people who want to UAS are generally people who've played a bit and have some cash stored up, but I agree the increase in price can be lowered a bit. Maybe make it +25 per skill, +50 over 500, that'd help new players get a few more skills for their hard earned cash.

I didn't know back then, that they were going to up the price to 1k a skill... damn was i pissed when i suddenly noticed the price change...
Changing it back to 100g would perhaps be too dramatic, i'd like to see it go down to something along the lines of 300-500g for a skill (perhaps make cap sigs cheaper since you'll have to do some effort to get an elite skill anyways?)
Going for the skill hunter title is just impractical as it is for my monk, since it just costs waaaaaay too much, and I just HATE farming (it's boring... not what i bought the game for.)
I was also quite disappointed when i found out about the tiny amount of starter skills in Factions, and now in Elona as well... I'd prefer a quite long intro like Prophecies had, if it'd mean I'd get free skills (and save skill points that way, probably for elites or some other skills, like you had Frozen Soil at the Grotto)
so hereby i declare this /signed by my hand.

This is ESPECIALLY true since they removed the ability to farm casually.

1K for skills is also before they stopped giving us free skills (except in starter areas for new characters) so it does not seem unreasonable to lower the price a little bit. Especially if you are going for the skill hunter titles.

You know, the faction gain being doubled might have somthing to do with the fact players could unlock in PvE twice as fast?

I disagree with all of this sentiment - somehow I manage to carefully select the skills for several builds, elites and all, and still not pay 1k per skill. You can easily unlock a handful of builds without having to pay more than 300 gold per skill, both my level 20 Paragon and my Dervish are looking at less than 200 gold for their next skill purchase. If you go around trying to unlock all skills in one class with one character, expect to have to pay for it.
Everyone who doesn't like 1k per skill obviously either doesn't recall or wasn't around in the days when the 1k cap was nonexistant. Imagine paying 3k+ per skill, then be glad for the cap and move on and complain about something else.

...that... doesn't make sense to me :s
I mean, let's follow it chronologically:
First, skills were 100g each. ANet changed this a while ago to 1k per skill.
Factions brought missions and quests that gave you LOADS of skill points just like that, BUT they nerfed farming, thus giving people that didn't have a gold reserve from the first chapter a hard time buying the skills.
Now they've increased the faction cap accordingly to your PvP achievements, and doubled the faction gain.
In PvE, you gain a bit less skill points again (still quite alot of them if you're getting the master rewards), but farming has been made even harder (AI changes, loads of enchant removal, etc.)...
So unlocking skills in PvE is, to my experience, as hard as in Factions, due to a lack of ... how should i call it... 'pay'? 'income'? You even get less skill points this time.
Lowering the price would only make it just a bit easier for the people who only have Nightfall, not forcing them to farm since they don't have a starting stash in their storage (thus ruining their gaming experience): I didn't buy GW to kill the same monsters over and over, I bought it to get skills, experiment with them, and have fun with the builds i make.

Don't forget about the uncountable characters that existed before they even reduced prices to 1k per skill (they never reduced costs retroactively based on how many skills you bought). As each chapter comes out, more and more skills come out.
And also, it's not about efficiently buying only the perfect skills for whatever build you looked up. Some people like to try skills out and find builds with them.

^^ Exactly!
While you can easily unlock only the few skills you would really need, where's the fun in that?! I personally like to be able to unlock all the clearly PvE based skills on my PvE characters, however this has been a very expensive process If I hadn't purchased all the skills I'll never actually use but wanted to test, my characters would all have 15k armour.
So yes I totally agree, with the multitude of skills available now, I think it's about time the price was lowered.

The price made a lot more sense in Prophecies.
It makes less sense now, especially for those masochists who would like to unlock all skills, no matter how much they suck. (And...there are some out there that aren't all that great to say the least)

I dont see the cost at 1k per skill as that much of an issue. Its really easy to make 1k these days.
The issue with skills is the signets of capture, because they cost skill points.
Skill points are harder to come by then 1k in gold.
It should be made easier to attain skill points, or allow us to exchange them amoung characters. We could store them in storage like gold and pull them out when we need them.

I agree that getting all skills is expensive.
I skip a lot of skills.
For the primary character, I read the description and when I'm in doubt, I read Wiki.
When I think I can find a use for the skill I buy.
With 8 characters that means that I only have to work with 2 secondary characters that have no primary.
I would not state that skills are too expensive.
For me it's more or less a matter of smart buying.
Just go to trader, read description, figure if that skill could be usefull combined with the primary (if it's a secondary skill).
Using a 15+e (exhausting) skill on a W or P is perhaps not the smartest thing to do, imho.
The same goes for high energy secondary skills on characters that rely on secondary profession for energy management.
It's all a matter of priority.
When I want 15K for a character, I just don't spend gold and put all I get in storage (every character I play).
Same is true for skills.
If I want a set that I cannot afford, I save the gold / skill points and buy the skills.

When it comes to me buying skills I am really carefull about it and think what I really need. The thing that bothers me the most is when a skill gets nerfed and I have to get a skill to replace it buy.I did this when I went and capped offering of blood but as it really is no good anymore and the same is getting for MoR and E Drain.I went and capped MoR for both of my Monks so 3 wasted skill caps although I can still boon/protect in PvE.I still don't like have to put out 1k when I am trying to but together a build or skills I may use.
It is not all that hard to get skills unlocked in PvP except elites at 3K a pop of faction maybe the SoC could be 1K and the rest at 100g or 500 I am not sure as to the exact price.I still dread haveing to pay Ik when I ma saving up for something else.

hell even lowering it to just 750 gp would be nice. ive spent enough gold on skills to get like 3 sets of 15k armor, and then i end up going slow again since i have no gold to buy more skills or armor with. the cost needs to be lowered.

Anyone remember the OLD system before they made it a 1k cap?
The current system is far cheaper then the 1st one.
I find by buying 100% of my primary job (including elites) and hand picking what secondary, I have a ton of skill points.
Pick a line or two to get through the game and when you get a money latter, start filling in the gaps.
If you try and buy everything as it becomes available it can be a problem.
