Thats just typical Gaile talk. No reason to believe anything is going anytime soon.

Recent reports indicate that, in order to capitalize upon the increased tensions in Elona, a few less-than-honorable merchants were planning to flood the market with rare items. These items were to be sold to the highest bidder—with no concern about the purchaser's intentions. The resulting influx of weapons would have been a boon to the forces of light, but it also would have had the unfortunate consequence of supplying powerful tools of war to those who wish to plunge Elona into darkness.
The planned market manipulation was under investigation by Vabbian officials, who were attempting to reach a compromise with the merchants to ensure their businesses continued to flourish while the safety of the region was protected. Unfortunately, during these talks, a fierce army of heket and harpy soldiers laid siege to the large warehouse being used to store these items. Priests from the Grand Court of Sebelkeh came upon the ruins as well as the charred remains of the valiant soldiers who laid down their lives protecting their princes' wares. Unfortunately, the priests arrived too late to save any of the fallen guards or the wealth of weapons the soldiers had been assigned to protect. The pillaging of the warehouse greatly shifted the balance of the current conflict in Elona to favor those pledged to Abaddon. Valiant citizens and soldiers, determined to prevent the return of the fallen god, are scrambling to reclaim as many of these weapons as possible in order to turn them against his evil demon hordes.
With so many rare items spread across Elona, those combating the forces of darkness have detected a marked increased in the chance to come across these valuables, as the weapons are being dropped in death by the monsters who purloined them. Many predict that at the rate these items are being recovered, the numbers should return to normal within the next few days. This means that now is the time to search for rare items. May Lyssa bless you with luck, and may the Five Gods protect you.

lol can we close this please? The only reason this comes up is because people have seen this lin and others and say "OMG its NOT bad luck its happening!" Its not. A friend of mine got a green like every FOUR kills of a boss once in elona and also I'm getting quite a lot of golds.

well, again with the luck thing... I have taken 2 characters through nightfall completely and the only green I have gotten was a non-max on istan. The Fiery Gladius' that drop would be cool if max ones would ever drop.
I agree that it is very hard to justify a lvl 22+ dropping non-max equipment. and most of the time, not even close to max.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Shadow Ranger for saying that. Look, yet another thread is opened to moan and complain about the drop rates. You made a run in the Underworld and didn't get ectoplasm, big deal. You go to Fissue of Woe and don't get a shard of obsidian, big deal. This doesn't prove that Anet has a personal vendeta against what is dropped and how often it comes about.
I have made numerous trips to the Underworld and Fissue of Woe and not recieved anything. I have farmed for greens and done chest runs without getting what I wanted. That's life, thats gambling. It's all based on percentages. You don't win everytime, you can't win everytime. Just because you do a run or two and fail to get anything value doesn't mean ANet is out to get you. In gambling, the house sometimes takes it, but that doesn't mean it always wins. Next time we want to moan about how long it takes to kill a group of smites...don't.

I stepped at Vabbi some weeks ago.
There, I got 5k a day minimum. Not farming, not killing everything, just doing missions and quests in a 8/8 party and killing anything in my way.
Maybe you don't play the game the way it was meant to be played...

When I started in Elona, I had 180 elites, as many as you could get before Nightfall.
When I finished, I had 290, the top available tier.
In 109 bosses (plus many more incidental ones), I got ONE green, and that was on the very last assassin boss.

i'm okay with the drops. i get a green maybe once or twice a week from normal questing. golds drop more often.
when i farm for greens i never have to do more than about 7-8 runs (with heroes and friends mostly, sometimes henchies), which is more than fine by me for a *rare* drop. most of the time the green drops by the fifth run. but it could very well be a streak of good luck since i returned to the game about three weeks ago. who knows?
i don't mess with chests unless i get key drops from mobs, so not a lot to say about that. i don't expect much from them. salvage or sell.

From what I've been reading across various forums and the general in-game opinion is that almost 3/4 of the playerbase seem to be having this "patch of bad luck" since NF came out

I could care less about that, to me it's about the hunt and pleasure of finding something I want for a character rather then spam for hours "wtb****," and have to deal with some greedy 9 year olds who's parents buy him ebay gold/ectos to shut them up.
All these junk drops might be a godsend for the newer players with no cash. Those of us that have been at it for 3 chapters now aren't impressed. The only reason people play PVE is for the items, armor, and skills. Of course the skills and armor are pretty much given to you, the item skins aren't. So now in order to get something that you want for your character you either have to blow out your savings, or farm many times longer to achieve what would normally not take as long pre-nerf bomb.
I'll say it again, More grind with less reward.

You're not picking up your whites, blues, and purples, and you're complaining about money. I don't care how long you've been playing, you've missed the easiest way to make money: ID and sell everything to the merchant. You easily make a couple platinum an hour doing just normal questing like this. If you insist on waiting until you get a drop that you can use, rather than making money and buying it, don't be surprised when it takes you so much longer to get what you want.

Not only pick everything.
IDENTIFY everything.
A white common item sould in merchants for 40-60 can easily become 90-150 gold once identified.
Leave behind 10 whites and you are losing 1k!
