The problem is...with the build I had created, it worked wonderfully for the ENTIRE area.
Wind riders were not even a small problem.
With the update I need to change my tactics to take on the pods if I want to solo, this ruins my build and severly hinders me in attacking the wind riders. It then becomes a losing battle.
I think the best way to go about this from now on is to just use henchies to take down the pods, then kill the behemoths yourself.

well when using the apply poisen long bow trick to kill the behemoths ive found that after i kill the behemoth if i slowly tigger the pods i can trigger only one at a time or at worst 2 which usually seem to be very easy to kill. if it runs i use sprint, 3-4 attack skills and its dead. as for wind riders i havn't had much of a problem with them yet i just avoid them and if there they are gurding 2 behemoths i spike one use apply poisen to trigger cry then heal sig to full hp.

K iv been doing totem farming for a while... and im not sure if my build is any good, save this in a notepad document into your skill templates folder C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Templates\Skills by default just type this in the notepad "ACMxlxYWlZD4esUrxLOsz3A" name it R-X Totem farm or whatever...
Skills-
Dodge
Escape
Lightning Reflexes
Troll Unguent
Apply Poison
Distracting Shot
Focused Shot
Favorable Winds
Attributes-
Expertice 12+1+3
Marksmanship 10
Wilderness Survival 9
The build sucks really, I came here in search of a better one but heres a strategy.
After you locate the first root behemoth, kill anything that may keep you from killing it. Then if you can manage to kill the behemoth without getting too close, then do so. If you cant, then slowly walk forward one step at a time, untill 1 life pod pops up, then pull him away and kill it. then agro another pod, pull it and kill it. Theres usually 2 or 3 on each, so you dont have to be carefull after the second one. Anyways, if you agro the pods one at a time then the run can be pretty simple. and if you agro more than 1, just move on to the next behomoth, if they dont break agro, so what, as long as they stay out of spellcast range of the behemoth, as in... pods on one side of you, behemoth on the other, then they cant heal it. thats it

Cannae say I've ever had a prob with pods, doesn't matter if there's 2 or 10 of em, they'll die with 3 skills, kindle arrow, forked shot, savage shot and marksman at 15.
Prepare kindle arrow, walk up to nearest pod, forked then savage, pod dead though the pod can sometimes have a smidgeon of ngy left, if thats the case just do it again, forked then savage.
I always kill the pods, wind riders, scale, thier drops are all part of the run just make sure u have plenty of salvage kits handy.

Totem axe farming has definitely NOT been nerfed, as today, out of sheer boredom, I took my warrior on a run through there and got . . . 4!!!!!!!!! Hehehehehe!
P.S. use hench/heroes and just flag them away after all other enemies are dead. So super easy.

I sent a whine to Anet about this. I was helping my friend with a mission in the Desert and we got a Monk boss. I couldn't kill him cos he ran off, but he always ran back to heal his allies. It ended up wiping us out since the hench went doo-lally, and later with the same spawn, the team got split up.
Ridiculous.

I've used that build that mesmer uses and it works great....the one thing with it is to pull the pods away from the behemoth far enough so you get just 2 pods with you....then attack one of them...if you're not getting anywhere with that one...switch to the other one, and you'll find that it goes down fast. Same concept for the last two, and then the slay the behemoth.

Has done the job for me so far and not changed since.
Although i'm already stuffed on Totem Axe's and therefor not need any more i gave it a try and had one from the first behemoth i wacked.

Take a Ranger, Use Poison.. No need to Aggro Life Pods. They seem to react like they always did before a big PAIN when there are 3 of them.
Went on run last nite and got 5 Totem Axes..

I went mapping there with my monk and an MM hero and decided to try my luck for a few totems axes. With the two of us running together i had 3 axes by the end so all is cool. Just try it as it is one of the easiest areas around.
