News excerpts from the official Guild Wars site in this distant galaxy:
Guild Wars Yearly Farming Event - Vienna, Austria
Contestants from the top 10 farming guilds eagerly await their upcoming matches as the GW yearly event draws nigh. Teams will be vying for a 10,000 dollar first-placed prize; which has definitely added an extra buzz to this year's event. This year's matches will occur in the Jade Sea region of Cantha. A snapshot of merchant prices has been taken and item worth will be based on a formula that takes into account the skin rarity, requisite level and mods. Interviews with the top seeded guild suggest they will break their 8 person team into two 2-man green farming groups, featuring invinci monk and SS necro pairs. These two groups will channel some of thier profits to the remaining group of 4 chest-runners. They believe this strategy while more risky will ultimately create the most profits from this area and thus win the event. Be sure to catch these matches on observer mode and pick up the latest locations, techniques, and build secrets from the pros.
11/28/06 Update
- Fixed a persistant bug that didn't allow elite PvE area access based on certain PvP events.
- Added a new system called REVENGE that links PvP activity to the success of a random PvE mission. This will encourage PvP'ers to try more PvE. Pit your PvP skill against the 1 in a million chance that the mission you win is the random mission selected so we can get our REVENGE.
- Added anti-PvP code that reduces the HoH chest drop quality if too many people are playing HA.
- Made the PvP NPC AI "more realistic", so that the Guild Lord and supporting characters clump and kite all over the map at warp speed. This has been done to eliminate solo'ing/ganking and to ensure that everyone in PvP can now enjoy the fun game of tag and chase that we all so very much enjoy in PvE.
....
OK, I know this could be imflamatory, but I couldn't help it. At least I didn't post this in the PvP forums. Hope you can see and enjoy the humor/sarcasm of a hypothetical A-Net that promotes PvE/farming over PvP. After thinking about the items in the "update" it does make me realize (imho) just how much A-Net favors PvP (or discourages aspects of PvE) in some ways. The farming event in observer mode would actually be something I'd watch though. What I wouldn't give to watch Cerb, Sno, or any of the other farming gods in action... But, alas, I think this only exists in a galaxy far, far, far away….
Feel free to add your humorous additions, constructive ideas and/or comments - thanks.
