When creating a character I have problems coming up with a good name... and after playing for a while.. BOOM! there it is.. the perfect name! and wouldnt it be nice to change ur characters name then?

Ofcourse I am not talking about day-to-day changing of ur name... but rather 5 times (on each char.) in ur lifetime.. Its really booring, having to play the whole game, leveling up again, just to change ur ranger's(or whatever's) name...

Also it would be nice to be able to change appearance from time to time, for example when a expansion pack arrives, to take use of the new faces and stuff...

What do u think?

They've said no to this. If you have been scammed by someone, you don't want them changing their name and scamming you again.

It aint a problem to fix "ignore" so it doesnt matter if a scammer changes his name... (besides, doesnt ignore work on account, not character?) I dont see the big problem really... Well instead of 5 in a *lifetime* u could for example take a period of a week or so at the release of an expansion wher u could change ur characters name 1 time!?

I think it would be useful and easy to solve! Is there something wrong with me for not seeing the big "OH NO! THAT WOULD NEVER WORK"??

scammer excuse is rubbish, scammer has 4 slots and it takes no time to level so if they want to scam they will make new characters. changing name is a great idea and why are all good ideas instantly shot down just because a few dishonest people who will scam no matter what anyway.
besides if they scam you once you are going to be more careful in traqde with everyone after that anyway it really not a good arguement against name changes

the official answer from Anet rep (Gaile) is that it is much more involved than just changing a name at their end and that is it.

for some time you had to DELETE a character including all loot if it had an offensive name to change the name.

after much work a character/loot does not have to be deleted to change the offensive name but it is a courtesy done on literally one by one.

it has to do with the accounts security.

Nah, don't like the idea about changing your character's name.

BUT I absolutely love the idea of being able to change your character appearance (hair style, hair color, skin color, height, face, etc)

I don't like this idea. If we change the ur-character's name, all the other names get changed along with it. Seems like a big hassle. :/

Eh, why not? I'd reach a bit farther, though. I'd like to be able to give characters sex changes. See, when I started playing, I made my character be a dude, like I always do for any game.

Then I realized that the people who design armor for this game hate men. I haven't made a male pvp char since. But my pve char who I put so much work into is still doomed to be ugly. Not cool. :/

I thought about if my guy warrior would be like my knight armored female warrior in betas (which I had a lot of fun on)... but no, the idea of people hitting on me just because I play a female character is scary...very scary...

Name change isn't such a good idea because it has been suggested before and shot down for reasons I forget.

The reason why I would be opposed to it is I wouldn't remember people's usernames on my friendlist :P

Look I have to agree with this. My IGN used to be Badazz Reddawg, but someone turned me in for my name after having it for 7 months, I had to change it. Well, in a hurry to get back on the game ( and becuse my other ideas was taken ) I just threw out Badboy Reddawg. Now I wish I could change my name again but a- net said no, but they said it might come to be in the future. Even if it was a one time deal. Something like petition a name change to a-net. I would really like to do something better than what I chose. I even went to thinking bout having someone report my name again to see if that would work, but theres nothing wrong with my name now so it wouldnt work. A-NET LET ME CHANGE MY NAME PLEASE!!!

Id rather see longer names, myself. What's up with the 19 space( including a space, so 18 letters total) thing? why not an even 20? I could've had a name I liked MUCH better, but NOOOoooo! Sorry! You're one space over the 19 character limit! 19...

Actually, for that matter, make it 21. For one thing, it's just a number that makes sense. 10char+space+10char. Besides that, I had an interrupt ranger once who was supposed to be called Respect Is Machinegun. Isn't that just the coolest name ever? But Respect Is Machineg just doesn't have the same punch somehow.

start a fresh character with the name you want.

i totally agree, i seiorusly HATE my name. its so STUPID. (i didnt name it, my bro did) i played gw for over a year looking like a dumbass with a stupid name. btw, i asked anet about possible inappropiate stuff in my name, failed miserably. they kinda got pissed and just closed the topic. big support~

You could always just make another char and name it that.
