Adventure Journals
The idea would be able to track important notes and what not in game. A good comparison would be the Journal that you could get in Kingdom Hearts which recorded monsters etc etc. This may not be 100% practical and some of you may disagree, but its something nice and it adds another RP element to the game and a gold sink (I'll tell more about that later) Anyway the Journal would take up 1 slot in your inventory and be customized, they would be able to do a number of things.
Personal Note(Takes 1/4 of a page): You would be able to record short notes about anything you wanted. A common example - "Remember to meet Sir Bobslot at the Deep at 7 GMT, and to have TS open" or notes about people on your friends list "Mienca Foxwind helped me out with Gayla Hatchery."
Journal Entry(Takes 1 page): This is ideal for RPers, you would be able to record the days event and what you've done. Would include the ingame date (Using the calender of GW)
Enemy Encyclopedia(Can fit 5 monsters 1 page): This would be the most practical of all. After defeating an enemy "monster" in RP you would double click your journal in your inventory. In capture signet fashion, you would record the monsters you want into your journal. It would include a mini picture, name, description, list of skills, and areas they inhabit.
Now I'm sure some of you are fine with the Merchant selling journals but I have something much more indepth then that. There would be a new Merchant (not clear on a name yet) but lets just call him the "Librarian" heres what he would offer..
- Novice Journal - Starts with 10/35 pages, costs 50 gold.
- Adventurer's Journal - Starts with 25/95 pages, costs 250 gold.
- Hero's Journal - Starts with 125/300 pages, costs 500 gold.
- 1 Page - (Used to add a page to your journal) 1 gold.
These would be the basics, and of course he'd only offer these based on the level enviorment, but I thought something important as a Librarian should have something more relivant to his location. So I was thinking, many people would be willing to pay for a cheap way to get all the info with out having to record every monster they encounter. So they'd be able to buy encyclopedias of each area they're in, downside being that each encyclopedia would take up 1 slot in your inventory. Plus side would be each would include every monster of its region, lore, and a bio of every character in the region.
- Ascalonian Encyclopedia - Takes up 1 inventory slot. 50 gold.
- Encyclopedia of the Northern Shiverpeaks - Takes up 1 inventory slot. 75 gold.
- Krytan Encyclopedia - Takes up 1 inventory slot. 100 gold.
- Encyclopedia of Maguuma Stade - Takes up 1 inventory slot. 250 gold.
- Encyclopedia of the Crystal Desert- Takes up 1 inventory slot. 500 gold.
- Encyclopedia of the Southern Shiverpeaks - Takes up 1 inventory slot. 850 gold.
- Encyclopedia of the Ring of Fire Islands - Takes up 1 inventory slot. 1,000 gold.
I also realize that some people may wish to buy a bigger journal after previously buying a small one, but don't want to loose their info in their smaller journal. They would be able to merge them as long as the smaller journal fits within the larger journals page limit, by simply dragging the smaller one over the larger one and double clicking. Anyways after all that I guess I need a graphical picture of what one would look like eh? Mkay heres a pic from Dungeon Siege 2. Ignore the tabs. In the GW journal there would only be "Notes", "Entries", "Encyclopedia". The quests would still be visible in another window, same with the map.

sweet! I really like the idea of an ingame place to take notes. That would be what i'd use it for most the time. I dunno about it taking up an inventory spot though, were already running low on those. I think it would be nice to to hit a button ie. "J" and have it pop up.
Great Idea! /signed

Well thanks for all the positive feedback, but is there any problems? I don't see why a concept like this gets fewer responses then some thread with an over powered skill...

well, I can answer that with the swiftness... of... whatever ill just get to the point.
People are more likely to bitch about something, or flame someone elses idea, than support a perfectly good thread.
I don't want to start any arguments, so im sorry for... erm, mentioning what I just said.
By the time chapter 5 comes, I really would like to see an ingame library, there would be enough information in all chapters to account for this as well.
You know... for people such as explorers and travellers, this could possibly be a feasible way to make money off of it. What do you think of players creating full encyclopedias, sell it to the merchant who runs on a supply/demand basis... hmmm... I dunno... I mean you can set the ability to write into journals to two seconds (like, you write the entry, and it would take 2 seconds of activation time to set that entry into stone) and that would provide the basis for taking ages to create a database.

I completely understand what you mean. But to the point I like your suggestion, although having a library in game would mean we need indoor enviorments first... So you gotta take it step by step.

qft
you will notice that the threads that go on the longest are the ones that pose for good arguments. the threads that are simply good, or simply bad are usually gone pretty fast.

An indoor environment would not necessarily be needed. For example, we currently have a barkeeper without a bar to enter, merchants without shops, etc. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see the indoor environments, but the mechanics of the idea can work without it.
All in all I like the idea.

It could also record the dye combos you have tried.
You could have examples or builds that you like and just click on it to switch between them.
Nice idea.

tomarrows ideas are good too!
and instead of having all your different windows, you could have your attributes and skills and everything in the journal instead!

- Personal notes would be as easy as the Templates, a txt file with the name of the character. You could even paste there some out of game personal notes, hits, memos and walkthroughs to read them later whitout Alt-Tabbing.
There could be also a 'common' notes textfile for the account and a unique note file for each character.
- The quest and mission logs could get into the Journal. With the already suggested available, failed, completed and know missions tabs.
- Isntead of captuirng the creatures you want, just make them appear once you kill the first one. With their class (if any) skills, attributes, HP and energy and the number of times you killed them.
Instead of being items, make it ben a new panel, including all the avobe.
Unlocking the panels for each campaing could be done after beating that particular campaing, you receive the unlock, and you can start filling the enciclopedia. Finally a reason to kill a Charr other than helping a friend, XD.
