No, it wouldn't work.
Yes, it can be done.
Instances aren't there to reduce server load (although they ensure that). They are there to prevent kill stealing, looting issues, spawn issues, camping, and more.
GW doesn't want explorable world you could share with others. Not only that, but they'll do anything they can NOT to provide it.
Sharing world opens such a big can of worms, that Guild Wars was specifically designed to completely remove.
This, along with 8 skills and level 20 cap is the cornerstone of GW game design. Remove that, and you might as well launch a new game.

nono im not saying it should be done in guildwars, it was just an idea i came up with and i wanted to know if itd work...
so you say it does work? because that would be a cool way to make a "real" mmorpg and still keep it feeless...

It would be cool to see people questing while your out there (Like diablo 2 kinda thing...)
But...then youd run into issues of having your quest already completed and crap like that.
anyway I tihnk thats what you meant, but i might have totally missed the boat.
yes it would work
no it wont happend

No, because "servers" are not existent. They use Virtual private networks, so basically the closest server between all the players in the party is the one you connect to. Of course, that is extremly oversimplifying what really goes on.
And that's why instancing is so good for this game.
If you were to see more than the people in your party, you lag because the sreverhas to make so many requests for the closest location of the server. Example of this is any MMORPG where you have a huge city. When the people all go to the main city, a lot of the lag out.

It could be done, but is it a good idea for a feeless system?
LifeInfusion touched on it - lag would be a problem. You'd need to seriously beef up your servers to handle that many people at once in that manner. That costs money. Thus, you'd either end up with a really lousy even more laggy feeless game... or you'd end up charging a fee.
I'm sure if there's a way to do it, someone will do it, but offhand I'd be doubtful that would work.

Hows that happen? I play NWN(1st one) now and again, and Ive yet to have a NPC tell me "Your quest was already done!" I do enjoy being able to see other people(I only play on non-PvP servers), as theyd usually help you out if you got into trouble, or needed an item, they might trade with you.
Its an AWSOME idea, but I dont see it working anytime in the near future, sadly.

Explorable areas and outposts follow different rules, and even have different rendering systems, the model of others characters are even different.
This would require such a change that would be better done in a completely different game.
