Trade Renovation
How about renovating the trade chat some? Make it so that a person can right click on an item, and click on an option sell, a dialogue apears requesting price. Then, every time the last message disapears off the trade screen, it would add "WTS <itemname> for <cost>, <amount> remaining."
If the person is already selling an item, this will replace that item(as to lessen spam in an effect), and if they right click on the item they are busy selling, it must allow them to change the price through the same, or another dialogue.
Instead of having people enter messages into the trade chat, make it "search" through the trade chat for what they entered, and possibly filter out the rest.(This was inspired from ]SK['s post. Credits to him, oh mighty master of merchantile logic!)
So in effect: Many people may right click on a single item and sell it for a certain price, where it would automaticaly and periodicaly repost messages.
A person looking for an item, enters its name in the search bar, and the screen filters out whats entered, for instance:
A person enters "longbow" so it will show "Longbow of Wounding" and "Amber Longbow", although more specific names such as "Shiro's Blades" would only show items named "Shiro's Blades" (unless there are items called "Shiro's Blades of fortitude" and the like)
Advantages:
It dampers people's repeated spamming of the same item.
It keeps the chat uniform and decent.(As in no all caps, and weird stuff)
Makes selling items easier.(By way of automation)
Makes buying items easier.(by way of filtration/search)
Disadvantages:
Trading items for items wont be possible inside this system, though players can still use other chats.(Which would increase traffic on other channels, which is bad.)
Trading items of exceeding cost is affected in the same ways as items for items.
Trading items for negotiable prices(whisp offer) is harder ect.
Trading items in weird ways like lotteries, guessing games, special offers, ect, is not possible.
Promotes idling in the sense that people will "switch trade on" then "go away" and sleep or do other stuff, like play other games or go watch porn or movies... ect.
Possible "fixes" for disadvantages:
Make the system have a "trade for" option which allows you to select some item and an amount you want in exchange for this item. This would be hard as it would either require a list, or a text field that checks with a database.
This would also solve the second disadvantage.
As for the negotiable price, add an option next to the ok button in the dialogue "negotiable" that disables auto selling, but changes the message to "whisp offer" instead of the price.
As for the last disadvantage, its a given. Like how remotes promote lazyness, and delivery services do the same.
I have no idea how to fix the second last disadvantage.
Probably results: Some places will have alot of idling players just selling stuff while not actively infront of their pcs. Thus increase in traffic in areas. Also the trade channel will then be spammed quite horridly as more people take advantage of this luxury. Eventualy people will suggest Trade Hubs to solve this problem, which will, again, increase the traffic.
IMHO its a broken idea so far. But maybe suggestions could fix it
