Ectoplasm and Shards as Quest Rewards in UW and FoW
Right now, the quests in FoW and UW only give you a little xp for your trouble, and the only way to obtain ectos and shards is to repeatedly farm these areas, usually solo. The end result is that most people wither solo these areas or do forgemaster runs... which sucks, as you only see about 5% of the content.
Why not take care of this by adding ectos and shards to the quest rewards? High level items are already given as quest rewards in DOA, even normal quests in NF and Factions give out hefty chunks of change. So please Anet, breathe some life back into these areas.

Usually with uw runs (no solo its boring) you get about 20-30k experience (I think we could charge entrance to survivors, but they prefer the Faction farming that still isnt nerfed).. plus minimum 1 ecto each (usually 2-3).Lol imagine what would happen if more ectos were at quests!!

Bad idea. Those resources are so expensive because they are rare. If every one of us can get them as a mere quests rewards they will become useless. This is basic economy. And I do find that the XP rewards in there are high enough.

Two points:
1. I can have one ecto in 20 minutes solo farming UW and 2-3 shards in 30 minutes solo farming FoW. Can you do a quest faster than that? What if it was only, say, the monuments quests?
2. Since when do people going into the realms of the gods need xp? There are quests on noob island that give you 2500 xp, so 5-10k doesn't seem so special. When I needed to farm XP for my skill hunter title, I solo farmed because it was faster. Can quests beat 40k/hour? All the quests in Factions and Nightfall have rewards, and the masters level quests have rather large rewards, why don't these?

Well, farming is matter of luck after all. Sometimes I play with hours and don't get a single ecto or shard. This is the way it's meant to be. Think about it - if all players farming in there get 1 ecto and 2-3 shards in just 20-30 minutes of play they won't be so expensive. Perhaps you are very lucky.
And about the experience - people hunting the 2nd or 3rd tier of the Survivor title (like me) do need XP quite a lot.

The rewards you're talking about are gold, skill points, XP, and in the case of NF challenges, goodies for your heroes. Elite missions have green items as a reward, and in DoA the ability to craft rare weapons with the gems you find (well there's Razah as well). UW/FoW quests have as a reward XP, unlocked chests for some of them (including the spider one), and the ability to craft obsidian armors with the ectos and shards you find. I can't see what makes UW/FoW less rewarding than the other mission/high end quests, really.

I think it's a good idea. Let's compare it with DoA, gems drop from the mobs AND are quest rewards, does it inflate the economy ? not likely, margonite gems still vary from 8 to 10k, titan from 75k to 90k. And clearly you don't see the point of economy, the more there is and the popular the item, the more it is bought, thus resulting in a price that stays the same. Sure, you'll see more FoW armors, now maybe not from grinders and Ebayer's or the occaisonaly rare hard-earned farmer. Because that's the main reason why you guys don't want it, you'll loose your precious 'elite' look or maybe earn less from your farming.

I've been behind this idea for quite some time, however, there is a fatal flaw.
If the first few quests give Ecto/Shard rewards, then most groups would likely just repeat those few quests, as they are now.
The true solution would be to either give more Ecto/Shards on later quests, or remove Ecto/Shards from earlier, prerequisite quests.
Of course, I can't emphisize enough how this will effect the current Ecto/Shard trading market. Lots of people would be surly that their Ecto Collection drops in value by a percentage over the course of the first week this may be implemented.

Maybe Guild Wars was made as a cooperative game not a game made for soloing.

and if those that want ecto/shards to remain rare to keep prices high then go one step further and make them only quest rewards (say from the 2nd quest in each area on, not for the first as too easy, or even just certain quests like those after the forgemaster in fow and after twin serpent mountain in UW as it'll give an incentive to carry on) and not random drops - then farmers won't get hundreds of them in a short period of time and it'll encourage co-operative play

Prices for gems from DoA have dropped like a rock in a few weeks after release. And are still dropping.
The only place I would sign for adding material reward (gold/shards) in FoW is after clearing it.
For current idea: /unsigned.

I would like that idea, it makes questing more rewarding. Of course it would result in drying out the farmnerds resources and causing a major wave of suicide (aka "I will leave this game for good not being able to change the daily influx of new players though, unfortunately - moan moan cry cry).

Unless you get a chest after doing it ALL, I don't support this.
