Harder to create character names now!
It's now getting harder to create character names that you want! Anet should reset existing characters' names whoes accounts haven't signed on for a year! Those people have abandonned Guild Wars anyways and shouldn't be allowed to hog up name choices.

What!? Asdkjfkdhkh, KillYouDawg, I See Clouds, BoxP are taken?
And what if people come back after a year away from the game, will they be nameless?
I have created 6 new characters in the last 8 weeks, not one problem with names. A first name a last name offer a huge amount of possibilities.
Perhaps some imagination is in order.

Do you know how stupid your thread is? Just because someone doesn't play for a year doesn't mean they shouldn't be able to play with there character name. Lets say someone joins the army and has to go to war. And he is in war for 14 months or something like that, so his character's names should have to be changed? There are millions of creative names you could come up with, if you can think enough in order to come up with them.
Your idea is stupid~~Not signed.

Yeah, when your in war you have full access to a computer and Guild Wars is all that is on your mind. Same with college. Your thread will not be placed in the game so there is no point in you arguing because it makes you look really idiotic. Some people, have lives. So a video game is not all that is on there mind. Live with it.
-Not Signed, i'm done with your thread.

/not signed - no point
ANet won't delete old characters no matter how old they are, so your argument has no merit. Sorry.

Character Name Generator
Here is an online character name generator:
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/20010208b
Works really well and has many factors but you can also just go random.
For those people that don't like to think up their own names, this tool does a really good job.
Personally, I think the name creation process is one of the most enjoyable things to do when starting a new character...but, to each, his one.

people who have not played for a year (thus only having prophecies) have payed the same amount of money as someone who have been playing for 10 hours each day for that amount of time. why should they not be allowed to have the same rights? they payed the same amount of money.
i agree with Frazzy, it is a stupid idea.
i also agree with Kuldebar, the name generating in this game is great. It promotes using actual names, rather than "xxKilLbOi783" or similar names.

This game is supposed to be "Pick up and play".
Plus, "Naruto kid" will probably be taken anyway, or "Cloud strife", or whatever over-used name you want.
No offense to the owner of these names.

Remember kids, using character names from books, series, movies, etc. most likely will not make you look cool.

this is dumb! take my IGN for example. Fallen Reper, i get retarted PM's like "you know reper is not a word" FOR THE LOVE OF GOD I KNOW! i wanted reAper but it was taken so i feel Reper is a nice name aside from thos couple PM's a day.

Let me guess, TsunamiZ.
You have a favourite character from a book or movie or tv series whose name you wanted to use. Unfortunately, the name was already taken, so you created a character with a different name, but put the name you wanted into your friends list, hoping to convince the owner to give up that name.
Am I close?
Whatever the actual case, just go with something original. I have lost count of the number of variations of the name Drizzt Do'Urden I have seen. And as for the Aragorns...

Did you try Fallen Reaver?
Creating names is a little like creative writing, sometimes you have to let go of a really good idea that's going nowhere and choose to do something else entirely.
My personal rules of thumb:
-Actually pick a name that I would want use myself.
-Never misspell a word on purpose just to "beat" the name database
-Refrain from using titles in a name. (ie. Princess Buttercup)
-Refrain from using phrases in place of a character name.
-2 great names are better than one, so use a first and a last name.
-Trying to make a joke name just to be funny is very unoriginal.

Who really cares, you're rules apply to you, If I see bob the builder or pre mule farmer, hey, woopteedoo, I don't hold it against them, no one should.
Yes, I do agree with above posters, clones of Drizzt, Legolas, and Eragon are a bit too much, those I do hold a grudge against, but it's not for lack of originality, it's for having the common sense there's a hundred of you running around already, and you tend to confuse people.
As far as the OP goes....
It's no one's fault that you can't think of a name but yours.
Grow up a little. The people who haven't played in a really long time should not pay for your unoriginality.

Only the absolutely not original names are taken.
I have never had problems with names. Why? Because I do not try 'John Smith' 'Dark Sefiroth' or 'I Got Big Txxxx'
Some of my characters have names based on the gods (Morrigan Balthazara, Izanami Grenthstein)
And some have names based on characters of stories I write (Joy B Arkanere, Gloriah D Arkangel)

aww... Legolas Greenleaf was taken? Darn it!
Seeing as this suggestion is poorly thought through, and flamebait at the same time, I am closing this.
