Guild Halls need Upgrading
My guild was saving gold for a while to purchase a hall, and when we got it i was severly dissapointed. The halls are a bunch of nothing, there is nothing to do at all. The sole purpose of a guild hall is to do guild vrs guild battles, and I dont think you should have to pay 75p+ just for that.
Guild halls are empty because there is nothing to do, I think they should expand the idea of guild halls a tremendous amount. The game is "Guild Wars", and guilds are nothing but clans that have capes. Here are a few of my suggestions for guild halls.
1. Have the hall you purchased start out very small, and you use large amounts of steel, iron, cloth, wood, ect and you can build sections depending on what you want. That way sigils would be a lot cheaper and lower guilds could battle but the "elite" guilds would have cool halls.
2. There should be some sort of time passing game or small little activity that the guild hall should have. Probably something like checkers or chess that they would have back then.
3. There should be challenged that characters can complete for fun, maybe if they complete all of them they get some sort of badge or item or small amount of gold . A few ideas I had were
--A race, racing another monster or going through a track.
--Trying to inflict as much damage as you can on a monster for a period of time.
--Maybe each character would have a seperate challenge, rangers shoot off a rampart and try to hit oncoming enemies, monks try to heal a NPC while enemies bombard them, warriors try to take on as many enemies as they can.
4. Guilds should have NPCS, merchants skill traders storage ect, that would make it easier if your staying there.
5. There definately should be some area where Guild members can fight eachother. They can 2v2 or 8v8 fight henchmen ect, also you could have 1v1's that would make recruiting new members more accurate.
Those are some of the ideas I had, I know some of them cant work out and my point isnt to have the activities critiqued but i wanted to get the point across the guild halls need to be better.

this thread makes me happy for a very big reason. This is probably about the 100th thread on this very topic here at gwguru, there are as many over at gwonline and that's only 2 forums. If you boiled all the suggestions down to their essences the lack of guild options and guildhall usefulness is probably the single most complained about things.
We complained about casinos and Anet heard us! Praise be to Anet! Complain my brethren! Raise your voices and cry out that a game called GUILD wars will start centering more around guilds!!!

I agee with both posts on this, we don't have a guild hall yet, but I went on the tours so I know what you're talking about. They're very huge and well designed, but they lack a lot of comforts you're use to having. But your right GW's has listened to a lot of what s been said in these forums. All it is, is just a matter of time, programing and design isn't as fast and easy as we'd like it to be, but GW's hit the ground running and hasn't slowed down yet! I think there's great things yet to come!

Hmm
This would be my first post after watching these fourms since i got GW. Arenanet really does need to focus on this problem as you pointed out with some pretty good reasons. The team sparring idea is definetly awesome as it allows to test out some of the guilds plans. The guild im in doesn't currently have a hall, but I doubt they've changed much since WPE and it was pretty much empty then too. I hope they tackle this issue sometime soon since I'm sure the community is starting to get bored.

If we really want to be heard, we need to collect the best ideas and start a petition to improve the Guild Hall experience. Remember this piece of "stupidity"...

I dunno about the unlimited items idea... that leads to hording of items and ultimately leads to inflation.
I believe that you should be able to have mini pvp matches with members of your guild in the halls. Im talking you design the team, game type, amount of ppl, etc. This would also silence those complaining about no 1vs 1

some excellent ideas, but I just thought, in accordance with what else was said above, I should add some of my own (lets get a big list compiled!)
Having played other online games, it was slightly odd to switch 'visions' to what guild wars is all about.. but now I'm hopelessly addicted.. but on the same token we have to realize that given this new vision there are some 'luxuries' that we accepted in other games that just wouldn't work here. Unlimited storage is a good example (not trying to be rude). It would affect the balance of power in the game, which is something our kind and innovative devs have worked hard to keep in tact.
Having a sparring arena is a good example of guild wars-style ideas. The ability to intrigue and entertain others, without the feeling of regret or grind if you should happen to perish. That being said, badges are something I used to find quite fun to work towards. It doesn't take hours of grinding, but more a show of skill to obtain. Given out by guild leaders to certain members for achieving tasks. The problem with this however is that we leave it entirely to the guild leader's choice.. which could lead to abuse.. but of course if you aren't happy with your guild leader, you shouldn't be in that guild :P
So, on to my own ideas lol.
I was thinking along the lines of a battleground (explorable area outside of hall) where there would be monsters previously seen by your characters (the ones that entered the BG). No loot (to prevent unintended farming), and no xp (to prevent unintended powerleveling). This would allow you to test your skills against mobs or clumps of mobs that you've already encountered but perhaps never defeated. There'd be no benefit except skill development and learning, which is really what GW is all about. Of course this would require a serious amount of coding, and the idea would have to be modified to be realistic, but the idea of testing skills not only on other PvP'ers, but on the very mobs you're having a hard time killing, would be awesome in my opinion.
Wagering. I know I'm getting slightly out of the GW ballpark on this one, but, I would love to see an outpost where I could watch other guilds battle, and make wagers on it. I'm not a casino lover (no flaming please), but I'd love to watch other guilds fight, learn strategies, and keep current on how things are developing. Other then being in a guild battle (and it's hard to sit back and observe in the midst) there's no real way to watch PvP action. This could involve some gold betting.. doesn't have to be amazing stakes .. but the odds could be related to the guilds ranks etc etc.. input on this would be greatly appreciated..
That's all for now, as I come up with more, I'll come back to this thread. GW is shaping to be quite possibly the best online game in the history of MMORPGs, and is due largely to the fact that the devs pay attention to what we enjoy (not always what we want) and what would make the game better.

For guilds to mean anything you will need the MMORG aspect of a persistant world. This game has diablo game mechanics.

Wow, I was completely surprised with the positive responses. Although I was positive guild halls need upgrading, a users first post on a forum is always scary .
Anyway, any more ideas that can be contributed to this thread will just make the idea of upgrading more realistic.

Quite like the idea. there should also be a training yard in the guild hall. With some money a guild can purchase monsters to add into the tarining yard so the guild member can train on them. The higher level the monster, the higher the cost. This could make the guild hall more like a hangout for guildies.

We finally got our hands on a Guild Hall as well. We actually are all pleased with it, since now we have a quiet place we can all meet up if we want to. We had ourselves a tiny /dance party, lol.
But I agree - there should be more. It's such a big space, and there is nothing to do but put together your party for guild matches. There should be a Storage, Trader and Merchant NPCs available, at the very least, so guild members can purchase items, trade items to each other, etc. all in the comfort of their own hall.
I, too, would also love to see small activities that guild members could participate in. Maybe like, "sparring practice", either against each other or against monsters -- not to gain experience or items, but for practicing different build team techniques, strategies, etc.

Great Ideas CAT
I also think that there needs to be more things added to guildhalls one thing i think they need most is a guild storage that all the guild can use. Of course to stop retards from stealing from it you would need to put something in where maybe in order to take something from the guild the Leader and like 2 officers have to accept there request to take something from it. I dont no how they would do that maybe some command or something. then if the leader wants to take something they also need to have premition like all the others so they just cant steal it all and leave.
just a thought

they could just have it where the items in the storage box are reserved for whoever the person who put them in the box decides I had made that same suggestion in an earlier post and my hope is that the devs will take note and implement even half of these ideas and i'll be content for now at least

In threads with suggestion this is something I dont realy see much. All about music, balance this balance that, i just want to see more guildfeatures for us Pve or guilds like mine who havent just got a good pvp team yet cause they got most of there players around level 15

You know what would be a great killer of all the cash in the economy?
If you had to BUY the Merchants, Storage NPCs, Dye Traders, Material Traders...
If they cost like 50-75+k per NPC that would be awesome, It would also add a the Feeling that your Guild was a bit more powerful I mean comon we have a Xulani storage Agent on Retainer! , it doesn't make you more uber, but its a convience.
The idea of building up the guild hall is kinda eh... I think they want the game to be about skill not who has more money to make their hall harder to siege... then the Ebayers and 56bazillion hour playing guys win all the time.
I've been a big supporter of 1 on 1 duels that are "just for fun" for a long time.
