Default Week Event - Zodiac Gem Hunt

-Week Event - Zodiac Gem Hunt-

The idea is for a week long event (or last for 10 days). During this event, a new item is added, call the Zodiac Gems. There will be 12 type pf gem, one for each of zodiac sign. They will be spread out through the world (or at least a chapter). It would be like a large treasure hunt, with the goal of collecting time. And at the end of the event, will reward you special prize depend on how many you collected.

Well.. that’s the brief summary of it. Don’t think many will care to read it, but will still go in a bit more detail on it…

Idea Origin
This idea comes about as skimming through a treasure chest related thread, which for a reason or another, drift my mind to the Dragon Balls of Dragon Bal l (the collect the balls to make a wish part, not the power-up fire ball spiky hair part), thus resulted in this.

Event Duration
I think the best duration would be 10 days (2 weekend and the week in between), to allow most people to take a shot of it. It should not be too long, as it will loose its freshness, and all of the “secrets” (ways of getting the gems) will be out of the bag, and become public information. Thus don’t want it too long.


Zodiac Gem
As said, there will be 12 of them, one for each of the zodiac sign. They will be a item, which you could trade and exchange if you like. Get them from various means and locations. Some of the more rare gem would also have a limit cap too. See more below.

The Hunt
The Gem will be spread across the world, and you can get them in different ways. Some ways could include:
-As Drops: As a random drop in certain exploration area or specific monster type. More elusive.

-As Reward for Deeds: a grantee reward for deeds, like finish a quest, or slaying a boss mob.

-At Specific Location: They could just be located on an catchy location. Like the Virgo Gem could be next to where you find the Broken flute, or Taurus Gem from a Minotaur Cave, etc.
The more rare gems might also have a time-limit spawn cap on them. So one gem might only drop 100 times in a hour before it would stop dropping all together, till the next hour.

For now, would imagine such event be on one chapter. But could certainly apply on to the other chapter for promotion (and fairness) there.

The Reward
At the end of the event, would have an NPC that would take in how much you gem you collected, and reward you with a special prize. It won’t be anything too fancy or powerful, with a starter prize (like 1 to 3 gems, each must be different) some gold, and better prize (like a head piece, a special rune, a average green weapon, etc) if you are able to trade in more gems. Even a final prize (or collecting all 12) be a special mini pet!

Goal
The goal will of course be to generate excitement and the buzz for game. People already like the treasure hunt, and this is a more elaboration of it.

It would also promote additional social interaction, as people will/might interact with one another more, trading gems and information on where to get them.

i like it and youhave done a very good job explaining the whole thing. Events like that will surelly get us going and espacially in the trade bussiness which i like

I like this idea, but I don't think the Zodiac should be used. The theme should be in keeping with GW tradition. Something like find Dwayna's Diamond, Grenth's Sapphire, Melandru's Opal, etc.

I'd also like some way to limit the prizes to only the folks who earned them. For example if you find Grenth's Sapphire you can't just trade or sell it to your friend. The sapphire is for you alone.

Some gems could be easy to obtain. "Talk to avatar of Dwayna. Kill 20 Charr to earn her gem". Others could be verry difficult and require an experienced team. "Enter the UW thru Grenth's Shrine in Southern Shiverpeaks and complete 2 UW quests. Earn Grenth's Sapphire".

A new idea foir event is always welcome in my opinion You explained nicely And I like the idea.. Although I highly doubt Anet will use it
P.S. Zodiac signs rule.. but isn't this idea kinda FF XIIísh? They implemented zodiac signs in the last chapter as well

In personal opinion, I think that it would be better if the zodiac signs were in chests, like the treasure chests, and that each chest is made to drop a specific gem. I think this way it would be more popular because personally I don't like to kill monsters over and over to get a drop I am looking for, I would rather go looking for the chests. Other than that I like the idea .

In responding:

Zodiac is use becuase it fits relativly well. There are already reference to Zodiac in the game (The Zodiac weapons). But other name/item could easily be use. However, I do think need a series of item, similar yet be differnt, and about 8 to 15 of them to make them have the same "collector's effect" as intended.

Already said, few zodiac will be like in treasure chest (or could be in chest)... or just lying there to be found. But other I think need to be more rare and ellusive. If you don't like how to get it, you could always trade for it, or just settle for a lesser prize.

I am not sure about to make it "customize" (1 per person, none-tradeable) or not. I do hope it would encourage trade of item and information (if they don't become over price that is), but could also see some advange in the other end as well. Someone of higher power can decide upon that.

Also beside the time-limit cap, could have some (The more rare one) be like treasure chest, where they will only drop/spawn/befound only once per player character. Also having them as a non-repeatable quest reward serve in same mean too.

I really like the idea! except the limit of items over time, imo this will result in ppl having a monopoly over certain items and alot of ppl missing out on stuff.
I especially like the idea from where you have to get the gems. will the locations be cross-chapter?
