okay anyone play everquest back in the day???
i say the mage concept....okay its a lot like the elementalist in the respect that it channels the powers of earth fire air and water, but as in everquest the mage should channel thes powers into a pet. Now this pet would have attributes according to what power it was born with...either earth fair air or water. okay like in everquest fire does the most dmg but less defense fire does most dmg but least defense air will hit faster then anyother and water in everquest was like the all around jack of all trades thats okay at everything but not great at anything. good defense good offense but doesnt excel at either. the mage can only have one pet at one time. almost all the mages spells will affect their pets. As for attributes i think water should be cut and the attribute of mastery of the elements should be created. the lvl in this class would determine the lvl of the pet. The mages would have to have several more commands on some hotbuttons then other classes...controling their pets. this class would be more complicated and harder to play becuase you would have to control both your pet and you but with time and practice can become a very formidable class. as with most casters the armor lvl should be low. The mage would have several spells in each attribute that would affect their pet according to which element the pet is...if it is earth then many of the spells would be defensive...this pet would have healing spells and pet enchantments to enhance their ability to take dmg effeciently. this pet should also have spells to protect the mage in ways....such as a snare spell to slow the opponant down. i believe they should also have the old school root spells...this would change guildwars greatly but i think it would add to the intresting aspects of the game. the root spells the pet casts should completely immobalize the opponant for a short amount of time.(the spells the pet can cast are the spells on the mages skill bar). The fire pet should have high dmg but not much defense. this pet would hit slow but when it does it causes high dmg. this pet would be able to cast burning spells kind of like the elementalist cast.(as you can see most of the mage spells are actually the pets spells...kind of saying the mages skills are his pets skills as well) the pet can cause the effect of burning for a high amount of enery. this burning will last a short time but can cause massive dmg if focused on correctly and used in unison with the pets attacks. Finally the air element pet. this pet would be able to boost its own attack rate and rate at which he moves. this pet would also have the effect of boosting nearby allies casting time and recharge times slightly. a possible elite would boost this effect some.
the mages primary would also be able to heal the pet and some other skill like transporting your pet to you and to target foe. to make this class effective it must be mage PRIMARY. its defense will be fairly weak and it will rely on its pet for almost everything. the mages healing spells would focus alot on the relationship with the pet...it would have some regen spells in primary to heal its pet and him/herself with out any cost but energy but some of the most effective healing spells would be more of life sucks....the caster would be able to give or take from its pet accordingly. a good secondary class for it would be either mesmer or monk....monk to get health and mesmer to get energy. I basically just thought about this on the fly and havnt really thought it through all the way because i basically made it up as i went along. any ideas or critiques post a reply.
