Default Party Management

One thing that puts me off in Guild Wars interface is party management. Overall, it's awkward and lacking. Here's a list of small things that could improve party management a lot:

1) Invite across districts/areas. It would be nice to be able to invite a player to your party whether it's in the same district as you or not. The invited player would be automatically teleported to the party leader's district when the invite is accepted.

2) Invite from friends panel and guild roster. This is extension from the point above. I want to open my friends panel or guild roster, click on someone's name and invite them to my party.

3) Don't break the party when traveling back to an outpost. If you're questing with a friend, every time you need to travel back to an outpost using the map, the party breaks. This is so painful:

<Friend: map travels to LA>
Friend (over TeamSpeak): Ok, what district are you in?
Me: American 2.
<Friends changes to American District 2>
Friend: Ok, I'm here
<Me: Type the friend's full name to invite him again>
That's not exactly what I'd call smooth. And you have to do that over and over and over again. It would be so much better if I could just travel back to LA, and have the rest of my party travel with me, to the same district, without breaking the party.

Am I the only one griping with the party interface? It feels so crude to me, I can't believe it still like that after three campaigns.

It's clunky, but manageable. Really not worth Anet's time, IMO.

You mean such as the Party Search Panel that nobody uses?

Party Seach Panel Info from GW website:

If a party leader accepts an invitation from a party in another district, the smaller party travels to the larger party's district, regardless of who invited whom. The party leader of the larger group becomes the party leader of the new group. The smaller party sees a countdown before switching districts; during that time, their spots are reserved in the new party.

If both parties are the same size, the party that sent the invitation is treated as the "larger party". The party that accepted the invitation switches districts. If there's still room in the party, the new party's leader can continue to add henchmen and invite additional parties

Sounds like it nails the coffin shut! use the Party Search Panel

Certainly a step in the right direction, but it would be nice if the same thing happened when you manually type the character name in the party panel.

Oh, have you wondered why nobody uses the party search panel? Guess what? It requires people to turn on the "seeking party" option. I could see two things happening: (1) everyone would use turn the option on, making the panel unusable, or (2) nobody would turn the option on, making the panel unusable. (2) happened. Why not give an option to search by player name (and maybe class and level), and show the results?

I know, it's manageable. I can live with it. But I'd really like to see some polish in Guild Wars interface. Considering how much ArenaNet stresses GW community and collaboration, it's surprising that it doesn't have a more complete party management interface.

Let's see you want to be able to cause the entire party to map together when leaving an explorable or mission area to keep you all together at the next point.

Yeah, there are times this would be helpful particularly when I'm out showing some noob how to do things in the game. (in fact, I could have made good use of it yesterday)

But it works even better for me for another reason...I will be able to make sure that no group I join EVER completes a mission again. You get close to the completion of the mission or quest and...POP! We are in ascalon city. I have "no idea" which of you jerks did that teleport, must have been the monk.

Nice idea but it would never work long term. To fix that option would take way too much effort and add too many checks to a simple map travel effect. Sort of like the annoying "Your whole party is about to move are you sure everyone is ready to travel" screen that now has to pop up all over the place.

It could be restricted to the party leader; only when the leader teleports everyone follows. A timeout could also be added, similar to the existing timeout when you're travaling from town to town.

The only thing i would like is that you can drag the players about in the party panel so that you always have a position that is comfortable to you.

Well, it would be more convenient, I guess, to have the option to take an entire group with you if going mapping back to or to a different outpost while in an explorable area. They'd have to code it so that only those that have that place unlocked are able to all map there. Last thing ya want is someone that just got out of Pre and gets in a group where people map to Droks and the person is now at Droks. Stuff like that, you'll have to watch out for. If I am out with someone or a group, I usually and have others use the /resign emote to take me back to an outpost/town and then map from there, but I can see your valid point....simplicity.

Keeping the party when traveling to an outpost unlocked by all is the only really useful point.
