IDEA - Half Price Skills Weekend/Event
They have "Triple Drop in Elona" weekends, "Double XP for Elite Skills" weekends, and the "Treasure Hunting" weekends. Wonderful weekend events, all.
I searched the forum(s) for "half price skills", and saw nothing except price checks on gold and green items. Someone has surely suggested this before?
Why not half price skills weekend?
Thx!

Here's a real off-the-wall idea... why not just drop the price of skills permanently? All of my characters have 100+ skills points, but not all the skills I'd like to use because it's a pain in the butt paying 1k each for them.
I have never seen a reason for the incremental price increase for skills. The only answer I get is "gold sink". But why do skills have to be a gold sink? Everything is a gold sink! And stop telling me to just go farm gold, it's boring and I don't have the time for it.
Either drop the stupid cost or bring back skills as quest rewards like so many others have asked.

A sale on skills isn't much of an event. If they did do this, people would just wait for this event after the release of each campaign to buy the majority of their skills. In that case, they may as well just lower the price of skills all together.

Unlocking a skill with Balthazar Faction does not teach your PvE characters the skill. They still have to buy it using gold or Hero Skill Points.
The idea is nice, as people will still buy the skills they feel they need at full price if there is no weekend in sight and save buying the unnecessary ones for these weekends. It might be good when used at the same time as the double faction weekends so that PvErs can get something good out of those weekends as well.
I'm not sure I like the idea applying to Signets of Capture though.

Yes, it's a gold sink, and a necessary gold sink. It's the only gold sink that's involved in just playing the game. Everything else can be avoided if you don't want to pay out the nose for looks, but this is the only method that _reliably_ pulls out of the economy tens of platinum per character. If this were gone, I can imagine the low end market would become very much inflated, very quickly.
I buy all the skills I want sans farming, so unless you're going for the skill hunter title, you really shouldn't be having a problem.
Also, it makes buying skills not so random; you actually have to think about what skills you might theoretically use.

Lord have mercy! I'd buy 290 Elites in less than two minutes, if I was getting them for 500!

Half price event? That is a bit senseless.
People will hoard money until the even starts and then buy as much skills as they can.
It's like 'make my money worth double today'.
Not a GW even.
They should add a way to all campaigns to keep gathering Hero skill points, and make all non-elite skills available through that system, so you'll have:
- Fast skill buying by skill trainers.
- Slow skill gaining by hero trainers.

You HAVE to buy skills to be competitive. Vampiric Sickle (14^50) of Fortitude (+28) is just as competitive as Vampiric Stygian Reaver (15^50) of Fortitude (+30) and 1.5k armor is just as competitive as Vabbian.
The noob island and quest skills are certainly not as competitive as all skills.
Still I don't like the idea for half price skills... but I like the idea of adding skill reward or two to the different events (canthan new year and alike).

The fact is that the OP wants cheaper skill prices WHEN you can unlock undesired skills in PvP that you would never bother to use in PvE. I bought all the skills in needed on my PvE Rit(which was not a lot) and unlocked everything else in PvP. Sure there are people that are not interested in PvP, but that still does not give them a reason to have any benefits.

To seraphite86,
I do not really care for PVP, and like Random Monk said, it does not give my PVE characters the skill to use.
I have an expectation that playing through a game will give me a reasonable share of the content. The skills should all be available when you play completely through the campaign. In the GW model, that means enough plat made playing through the game to buy all the common skills and sigs to capture elites.
15K armor is totally out of the question. If I am not willing to spend the time farming, then I have not earned it.
I guess we differ in our expectations about reasonable content. It is either reasonable (or not) to expect that completing a campaign as an average player will net you sufficient rewards to acquire all the skills, both common and elite.
Thx!
