Default unnecessary barriers

Hi devs,
Please allow us to jump, jump onto rocks, walk up stairs of buildings and jump off, and swim just a little ways into the water. Maybe this can be possible sometime? Just extra work / programming, wouldn't affect network at all or screw up the free to play aspect. Today for the first time I found a zone where weather effects occur (it rains down in a valley of Marga Coast), now that is what I'm talking about! Thanks.

/signed for some
the jumping thing would be hard because then the game would be changed drastically for jumping, and its not worth it. but the weather and day/night effects are a great idea

This is not WoW. If you want it to be WoW, stop playing Guild Wars and play WoW rather than telling them to make a major change.

This has been sugested before, and it was agreed to be a bad idea. Those "useless barriers" are there for a reason.

Also, it snows in parts of the Shiverpeaks, rains in Pre-Searing, but you would know this if you actually played the first campaign.

Yeah, in case you havn't noticed, Guild Wars currently only runs on 2 dimensions.. Depth and Length... Visually we can go up, but when you can attack someone on top of a bridge from below it, it clearly is not real.

Allowing us to jump over barriers would necessitate the addition of a third dimension, which would involve recoding EVERYTHING.

NOT HAPPENING.

i hope a mod will close this since its been suggested many times before. use the search in future it is a rule on this forum you know.
There is no need for jumping swimming ect, if you want to use these actions, play WoW or Sonic the hedgehog or mario. Jumping and swimming are uterly useless in GW.

Well...I do play wow every now and then, didn't know I had to choose one or the other. Don't worry guys, I wasn't actually planning on driving over to ArenaNet and forcing the programmers to let us jump. I hope the people who are offended by useless but cool features never see the weather effects in nightfall that turn off / on, and only occur in certain areas of a zone...it might make someone's head explode here. Oh, and I'm still confused as to why WoW was even mentioned? Jumping = WoW? Um...ok. Sorry, but almost every game let's you jump, so in GW it just feels a little off when I can't...no big deal. Stupid mario...trying to copy WoW.

This has been discussed a ton. It's not gonna happen. It would require Anet to add physics to the game or something and they're not going to spend time on that. Go discuss GW2 or Eye of the North instead :P

I know I know, I'm sorry. It's just that last night I was playing the original mario and every time I jumped I was struck by how much that game is identical to world of warcraft, so then I decided to play WoW instead of a cheap imitation. Mario needs to go back to 1985 and leave the whole jumping thing to Blizzard. Now every time I'm playing GW and someone types /jump I get really upset and tell them to go play WoW if they want to jump.

Buttermilk, I agree with you. It would require a drastic redesign of the current system so it'll probably never happen, but for the sake of argument, let's say it were possible. It wouldn't make GW suck all of a sudden. Zones need those barriers because missions have been designed with them in mind, but in outposts it wouldn't hurt or break anything. They already treat outposts differently than explorable / mission zones by turning off player collisions inside outposts, while collisions are turned on outside of outposts. The same could apply.

But anyway, I didn't know this was such a hot topic that caused people's heads to explode at the mention of it. Sorry again to the guys who's heads exploded. I will search next time before I almost single handedly destroy this great game.

Hehe.

You must understand that, "That, ZOMG, Guild Wars isn't WoW!" is the new way of refuting any suggestion.

-portals, can't have them, WoW has 'em

-space ships, can't have them, WoW beat us to them with the
Draenei

-instanced areas, can't have them WoW has them and let's you get up to 40 people inside!

-load screens, can't have them, WoW has had those since release

-Holiday events, can't have them, WoW 'em

and, so on...

It's like a weird version of an already weird Six Degrees of Bacon. Everything touches upon WoW, because somehow a little bit of WoW exists within all things, it was there during the Big Bang and was surely there on the Grassy Gnoll, ya, WoW has Gnolls, too!

Now, other than the fact that WoW has up and down, implementing terrain jumping would be horribly difficult to re-physic.

I did see an interview once where one of the Devs mentioned the lack of jumping, with a little regret and hinted at the possibility of adding it later. So, perhaps there is a back door avenue to adding this functionality to the game world, but I would be very surprised.
