Actually the suggestion i made is in furtherance of that goal if you consider it carefully. Fact:Guild wars is going to have expansion packs. In these expansion packs you'll definitely see new skills, quite possibly new professions. So you take the base game of guild wars with its free class combinations and add a new skill set which might create overpowerful combos with some other established skillset. You can make the obvious limitation for this the race the player chooses, where some professions are available and some are not. I.E. Humans would have the current classes, but not extra class 1 and 2. Char wouldn't have rangers and monks, but have extra class 1 and 2.

I don't think that's a good idea. You are forcing people to be certain races just because they will want to be the new professions. That's not making races just for looks/storyline. That's making them to have specific advantages/disadvantages with profession combinations and builds. That's not what Guild Wars is about.

Agreed. I don't want to be forced to pick a certain race so I can be something I want to be. And I don't want to have to choose a certain race so I'll be better at being a certain class.

you folks are seriously missing the point. If a new class has some unfixable synergies with existing classes that make them overpowered (and is fine otherwise), using races as the front end of the balancing effort - namely, to keep certain classes from being able to be used on a single character - seems like a good way to go about it.

I get your point, but I think it is a poor excuse for saying that they can be lazy with the balancing. They still will have to balance the skills out with the other professions so the new professions don't become too powerful. If the different races were established for release then this wouldn't be such a problem, but the fact that I would have to delete a character or two (yes I know they might add a slot for new characters with expansions, but obviously if Laz's idea was implemented then old characters would not be able to switch secondaries to the new created professions) so I can create new profession combinations isn't very fair to those who have supported the game from the start.

Seriously though, it's unrealistic to expect completely original races.

Original as it can be. I really hate seeing the same eq shit over and over. I agree with this guy.

Here's an idea for a race: We can have these human-like creatures with fair to dark skin, fair to dark hair, that can be short to tall, thin to wide. We can call them humans.
If you don't think humans are customizable enough, go play another game. What we have now is going to be added to most likely, and with the different skin colors, just pretend they're different races.

I like the idea of having different playable cultures or ethnic groups of humans. It's already known that there are other human lands besides Ascalon.
Why not have new cities and kingdoms with humans that have entirely different character models, equipment models, etc. You could do new start areas as well.

I hope they stick with humans. No other races; if they add other races hopefully it will be a purely cosmetic thing (after all, as it is the enemies use the same skills as us), and hopefully original ones, not the usual fantasy repeat. I especially don't want to have to put up with 40 people named Drizzt, Drizzzt, Drizt, Drizzit and so on all wandering around with their stupid panthers, pointy ears and double scimitars.

And i like the idea of an evil side too, and why there are then (many time later) not missions against other players of the other side ? (like the Academy-PvP mission) It would be a very big challenge and surprise to go against some other Players from the other side.
And then a Races....Some Demonic, Fairys, Dwarves (in our deepest heart we all love dwarves ) .....
next point Classes:
I like the Imagination of an Knight, lawful, brave und with hornor. He can be better Armored as the Warrior but makes less Damage....something like this.
EOF:

any "class" can be made by a combo of different classes. one warrior can be TOTALY different then another warrior. you want high damage output and not worry too much about the defense, have 12 strength 12 swordsmanship and 3 tactics and skills to go with it. you want a warrior with better armor but less damage, make a warrior with 11 swordsmanship 10 strength and 10 tactics.
that is why adding specific classes like this, as what EQ2 and WoW does, is pointless and why Guild Wars is more flexable...
