I think the OP is depressed about spending so much money to buy candy canes and they are devalued by new items.
Nothing to see here.

You sir, win this thread.
No DP = endless amount of wammo's running around like headless chickens (well, that's what they usually do, but it'll get even worse.).
It's one of the base mechanics of the game, period. Don't try to touch it, even if it's PvE. I consider it fun, even. You can always recover from that DP if you want to (using candy canes/clovers), or have a tough time recovering the harder way.
Needless to say, I prefer the second method, since it'll at least give me a minor feel of being challenged by PvE.
Lock this rant, please.
PS:
@Clord: What about PvP? And don't say you're not a PvP'er, ANet even created Sorrow's Furnace, ruined the Tomb of Primeval Kings, put Elite Missions in the game, play those if you want some end-game PvE content.
All 'Single Player' games have a limited replayability, mind you. And GW can't be compared to the free roaming genre à la Grand Theft Auto, or Oblivion.
Play those games if you want stuff to do after you've completed the storyline, GW has Explorables, Missions, and tons of quests. And you can have multple characters. Plenty.

looooool,
bocauze pve iz so hard!!!!!!!!!! i kant ave dp its cheatin
Man don't make me laugh, It's hard enough for people that can play the game to get DP, I think doing pve with 60dp is the only way to make it challenging. /signed for 60dp always lol

Absolutely terrible idea. DP is the one thing in the game that helps balance (somewhat) the fact that players ressurrect while their enemies do not.
I personally like this nice, simple event...it shows that A-Net is willing to let the community have a little fun, while not spending a ton of time on developing it so they can focus more on other core issues with the game (and Guild Wars 2, to boot)....

Another disgruntled GW player thread...
I seem to recall the days that NO DP remooval items existed and people got along just fine. When the first CCs appeared, people welcomed them as a nice little treat they could utilize for the elite areas.
1. These "same lame DP items" are a free curtousy that Anet takes the time to program for those that wish to take part. You don't like it? Then leave, complaining isn't gonna solve your issues. Grind for silly/questionable titles? I'm sorry but just because you deem it as such doesn't make it so. Many people feel it is fun to work towards such titles and Anet is nice enough to oblige them.
2. Just because an event doesn't fit your idea of "special", it doesn't mean the WHOLE game is bad. And as far as "ridiculous" titles for PvE and PvP, refer to #1. You dubbing something as "ridiculous" doesn't make it so. Airing your opinions on this matter is just fine, but generalizing a tiny little matter into "making GW a poor game" is such a silly thing to say.
The OP seems to be forgetting one thing: NO ONE is forcing you to take part in the weekend events. NO ONE is forcing you to grind for DP items. NO ONE says DP removal items are necessary to play GW. NO ONE is forcing you to grind for titles. NO ONE is forcing you to play GW. Get the drift...?
Honestly, if something so small bothers you so much, then DON'T take part in it. Either leave the game completely, or do the simple thing and DON'T take part in the event (i.e. DP item grind, PvP grind, title grind, etc). Let others enjoy the game as they see fit without harping on what they enjoy. Sure you can say your opinion, but to say such a small matter as this is making this WHOLE game bad is just...discouraging.
Cheers!

GW needs only one more title.
Whiner.
"You get one point for each complaint made over anything in Guild Wars. You get two points for bashing events you do not enjoy. You get 4 points for complaining about how grind heavy Guild Wars is. You get 8 points for pointing out that people deserve something because they pay money for it."
Max title is called Ultimate Cry Baby(5), requires 100 million points, and when this title is added to the game, some people will already have it maxed out.
PvE is easy. Removing DP doesn't change a thing. It does however matter in elite areas, or better yet, DoA. Even other elite areas don't represent much challenge anymore.
I still have 24 peppermint candy canes. One year ago, I had 24. I prefer to not rack up DP, or handle it apropriately. If you're in any even remotely high area, DP can be quickly reduced. And there's no excuse for getting high DP in non-elite areas.
But I fail to see the problem in the first place. Is anyone hurt of this? It's irrelevant to pvp, it doesn't even remotely matter in PvE, so what. There's items that reduce DP, and there's items that count towards drunkard title. And then there's useless items like flowers, broken flute, cape, etc. So?
But why is it necessary to complain and whine about every single event that gets added. This event isn't about farming, you can if you wish to, but that's everyone's own choice.

Well seeing as how this isn't really an event, you should not be complaining that it is one.
On the other hand, Anet just threw something new in for the weekend. This doesn't seem to be planned ahead of time like the celestial pig festival because:
A. There are no decorations
B. There was no notice of it until the 15th which was slightly announced in the scribe
C. In game there is no announcement of it
So I don't see why you are complaining. Personally I have enjoyed every event that Anet has given us, even if some were a bit lame. You know everyone isn't going to be happy with everything that happen. If you don't like something don't participate, simple as that.

I dispise DP removal items, just cause it cheapens the PvE game. If I die, I want to grind it out and keep going. DP makes the game challenging (or at least somewhat). I'm especially mad now though at the fact that I can't even control my own DP now. If somebody else in my party wants to use a clover, they can now affect my dp.

If people want "cheat items" for the non mandatory areas such as DOA then let them grind. How does it affect you?

Agreed^
And do we honestly care if you participate in this event? No. (poster)

Okay so grinding shouldnt even be an issue here cause grinding = farming, end of story.
DP removers, I personally dont use them unless I'm farming. Which basically means I grind for them for when im grinding myself (I found that ironic). To be honest though, I've accumulated 50ish clovers.. and I havent grinded for them yet. If you are so completly pissed off by these clovers, give them away. I actually dont like clovers cause I think if you use the "special item" it should only effect you. But hey, if someone wants to bust out a clover for the party, I wont shun them.
