Remove DP from PvE - or remove the DP removers. And get some better ideas for events.
OK, another special weekend.
The usual things happen: High expectations, and then this:
The drops are:
- Shamrocks that remove party DP and add to lucky title track if 15% dp get removed
- Beer, with a special name
Now what is the point of DP in PvE anymore? I already have enough candy canes and stuff to remove DP from the whole world after a nuclear attack, famine and epidemies combined with an alien attack with death rays.
What about people that do not play GW this weekend or on the others, they are the only ones that are still affected by Death Penalty.
Shall I know got to Nolani Academy and slaughter some more mobs to collect some more shamrocks and sell them to them???
Sorry, but this fails:
1. always the same lame grind items:
Grind for DP removers, grind for alcohol for a silly and questionable drunkard title, we have enough of these already.
2. If this is "special", then GW has become a poor game. It is the same for both PvPers and PvEers, both get some boosts and are encouraged to grind their often ridiculous title a bit faster or get rid of DP.
Some things they should not do in GW2: read above

`Might as well remove the whole death system since dying has no use anymore now!!1 /sarcasm
Sure, death penalty can be removed, but i's only if you WANT it. Do you use a candy cane EVERYTIME you get Death Penalty?
The DP removers are needed in areas like Realm of Torment, because you cannot possibly survive there with Death Penalty. For the rest, nobody in my guild or in my friends list uses DP removers. Only in UW, FoW or other high-end areas.
You can never have enough beer. Do you know how much beer is required for the title? If one had to BUY all that beer at merchant, it would cost him over a 1000K. Rather get them in drops, then
Just be glad that DP removers can't be bought at merchant (yet) ^^

The meaningless grind titles and things like "you need DP removers for Realm of Torment" are the issues I mentioned.
Grind reward: Cheat items for DoA/RoT and the harder areas?
Maybe people should also be given a T-shirt "I drank beer for 1000k" or something like this to illustrate the D'OH factor of this even more.
Is this the spirit of GW???

I dont like grind and so I avoid grind. If you dont like grinding for those items or feel like they're not worth the effort to grind for then it's simple, DONT get them. No one is forcing you to do it.
If people want "cheat items" for the non mandatory areas such as DOA then let them grind. How does it affect you?

Did you pay for this weekend? Or any other special weekend, for that matter?
Do you have to participate?
Do you even need to have the items?
Since the answer to all of these questions is unequivocally "no", then I'd say you have absolutely no reason to complain. There used to be a time that Anet didn't have little weekend events, they don't have to do them now. If you're not happy with it, just pretend they don't exist and don't participate in them.

But is farming for Alcohol drops really the fastest way?
There are plenty farms that net about 10-20k per hour, so it would only take 50-100 hours to get 1000k.
To get 10.000 drops will take you much longer. If you are fast, you might get 1 every 5 minutes, lets say 10 per hour. You would need to farm 1000 hours.
As for the count to lucky title: its just a nice sideeffect, I dont know any sane people that would abuse clovers to get their title. 4 points from clover or 55 points from standing afk... hmmm
Edit: DP doesnt say or add anything to the game, Ive completed Titan quests before, with all the party having 60 DP and 4 out of 8 left. GW is as hard as you make it and theres always free choice.

Grind titles are meaningless, but isn't the entire game meaningless? It's all for fun, and some people DO enjoy getting titles. And yes, you have to grind for it. Boo-hoo. Sometimes, you have to DO something to get something.
And since when is removing DP cheating?
RoT is hard enough as it is for most people, if you die there, you shoulnd't have to start over again. You could also take a candy cane and go on. If you don't want to 'cheat' in these area's, then just don't take DP removals with you.
The spirit of Guild Wars has been gone for a while now IMO, though.

Actually, when all you can do is complain about a special event that you're not obligated to participate in then yes, it's time to move on. Maybe go outside and have some real beer.

I rather wonder how they expect people to keep playing GW with this.
Is this a grind-free and meaningful gaming experience when i wait for special weekends to get beer to consume for a title that means i drank beer for some X k or a certain amount of free beer????
Or to get DP removers to make the harder areas... not so hard?
No, I have no reason to complain. Everything is completely optional. Still, grinding for clover leaves gives an edge!
Absolutely right, when all that is left to do is to collect leaves and drink beer, it is time to move on!

Games like Guild Wars will ALWAYS and ALWAYS involve grinding. You don't just start off with max armor, max damage weapons, and the highest level either.
People keep playing the game BECAUSE of grinding. After doing the missions and beating the game, there's nothing left except grinding. (No 'go and play PvP' reactions please, this is about PvE). Ever noticed how the game population decreases after every grind nerf?
Removing DP will NOT make hard area's less hard, but it WILL give you a second chance on doing it. In the idiotic AI these days, I find the DP removers to be very handy in hard area's, where mhenlo runs around without healing, koss aggroes 5 other groups of monsters, and the monsters duplicate as well.
If it's raining money from the sky, you could either complain or enjoy it and pick it up. Your choice. I'd choose to have fun, really.

The beer thing is fine, that doesn't really affect the gameplay, just a fun sidenote. However I totally agree with the DP removers. It's called death PENALTY for a reason, and to be able to remove it thanks to a free drop you found does make the whole DP system a waste of time IMO.

If you had high expectations for the PvE aspect of this weekend, I think the problem is with you, and not Guild Wars. This is a random weekend like most other random weekends with small benefits. This isn't an event like Winterfest or Dragon Festival. It's a random weekend. Nothing more.
These more or less trivial items were added just so that people could have a little fun. Your apparent expectations of them going all out for every single little thing to appease you is something that would stop people from playing Guild Wars, as it would stifle development of *useful* things. Something like this certainly won't. The vast majority of us are having fun.
Get over yourself.

To the OP:
What in any of the news about this weekend gave you "high expectations". It was always known to be a small, few items.
You sound really dis-satisfied with this game. Maybe it is time you move on and let other continue to enjoy it.
(im getting really sick of these kind of people. The do nothing but complain about something but then continue to use what they complain about. Seems like we may have a new definition of insanity.)

I see no issue with the dp system at all. Only time I ever use dp removal items is in DOA/GOA. Rest of the time I just fight off the dp.

The whole point in this little weekend event is to do with St Patrick's Day. Quite a few people requested an event for this weekend to celebrate. They even went as far as trying to organise a player-run event. It was supposed to be a bit of fun. If you don't find this fun, don't participate. It's ridiculous. All of you constantly complaining about the things Anet does to try and make the game a little more enjoyable. I mean, why do you even play the game? Go play Solitaire or something. It's always the same, and you don't have all these other people that may want something more in a game.

My point wasn't about the event. It was about the DP removers we're getting all the time now. In some areas they may be useful but to me, it's a form of cheating. The DP is there as part of the game and being able to remove it when you feel like it against the grain IMO. Again IN MY OPINION. If you had a hack that allowed you to remove DP at the click of a button there would be uproar. Because it's given to you by Anet it's OK. Not in my book. It does the same thing so I don't think we should have them. DP is there to make it harder because you died. Why even try not dieing when you can remove this penalty so easily (and for free).

its just a fun little thing they threw in for the pve'rs since the last few special weekends have been pvp orientated.
Geeze get a grip people. No one is forcing you to particpate nor are they forcing you to use any items that may drop. So what if someone gets dp removal items...how does that affect YOU? It is not cheating and any good gamer would know that those items shouldnt be used for just any old thing.
Thing that gets me is that for all those who complain..if they get a dp remover...i bet they use it at some point.
And for those who dont want the items? well imsure you can find someoen to buy them from you

Waste of space bitching thread... and in the wrong forum, too! I don't see general discussion, I see a suggestion.
DP could stand to be a little worse of an effect, to make people fear death a little more. However, DP-removing items with the current system are fine. They are in limited quantity and they are not needed since DP in general is still pretty forgiving. They are almost vanity items if it weren't for the min-maxers who rely on them just like they rely on high-level LB titles.
