Dying Minor Pieces to Armor
I got about a billion posts but nothing specificly on what I am talking about so excuse me if there is a post similar to this one.
I noticed they have made a large ajustment to the Dying system, I love that they added the 3D Model, let you see your armor before your dye it, and exc..
What if we made it so that for each piece of armor you had not only 1 dying spot but 2 dying spots. One for the major Area (Which is what we alrdy have) and the minor area. I'm proposing more of a color sceme especially for most armor sets. I know there are sets that really don't dye specific area's for example Platmail armor: It dye's in the corners but doesn't dye the grey area, make it so that we can dye the corners and the grey area (Minor). Also almost every paragon armor has white all over the place and only dye's the corners; allow it so that you can dye the corners and the white area. That way most paragons don't look the same .
Here is an Example, Bare with me I dont' have photo shop or any of that good stuff.

Like the idea, not sure it would work for all armor though.

I recommended this in a larger post about what I'd like to see in GW2, as it's maybe a little late to overhaul GW1 for this, though I didn't use pics.

Changes to the current dye system...?
Well...
1. I'll redo the skins so they have real 'raw' material colors are in real 'raw' colors: cloth (pale yellowish), leather (pale brown), and metal (raw grey).
2. The same color would look a bit different depending on material, the color would the same, but not the texture.
3. I'll bring back the dye remover, but not making it usable along with dyes dye, just to remove colors so they become the 'raw' ones.
4.I'll add the colors: cyan, magenta, lime
And I''l add three color 'additives': glitter, glow and chrome.
-Glitter makes the texture have tiny sparks, like pretty sand glued to it.
-Glow makes it shiny: satin cloth, bright leather, polished metal, etc...
-Chrome makes the skin shine with iris colors, like the Krytan elementalist armor.
So we end up with:
- Colors: Red, orange, yellow, lime, cyan, blue, violet, purple, magenta (And brown.)
- Greyscale: Black, Grey, White
- Additives: Chrome, glow, glitter, silver.
Not all colors and additives would work in all items, for example, Chaos axes would accept only color and greyscale dyes.
5. I'll make each skin have 1..4 dyeable areas. Depending on model they may have just one dyable area, or more. Some areas would remain undyed always, like the obsidian shards in FoW armors, those would stay always black.
6. Once you use a dye on an item, there will appear as many columns as dyeable areas the item has, if you change the item for another with less, the dyes on a column that disapears go back to the inventory, if it has more, new columns appear.
This would allow:
- Uncountable amounts of combinations...
- Dying metal of jewelery and accessories in armors like Ritualist ones...
- Dying the blade of a weapon and more parts on other items...
Etc...

Would require a overhaul and redesign of all the armours.

I'd rather have the dev team work on something else.

The OP suggested 2 dyable areas. it was a clear and specific idea.

This was the idea that I intended. From what I have seen most armors have 2 area's, the area that dye's and the area that doesn't. Most armors in the non-dyable area's have the same color or distinct look, which with this idea I feel it will give players the opertunity to dye thier entire character. I really don't think that more then 2 area's will be needed to get a good look for thier chars. That is why I suggested the Major and Minor idea. I know that thier are some armors like scar-paterns that could be a problem in proposing this. I am sure though that something can be implemented like having the minor dye the outer area's or something of that nature.
In my opinion I brought this idea up because it will give players a larger variety of idea's and style.

I think it's a great idea. It could open up the possibilities of different colour schemes for certain armor art. I know that sometimes, there's a case that I would think "Gee whiz, I kind of wished I could dye this part of the armor ... the current colour just looks a bit bland." Though there will be some combinations that look quite offending to the eyes, I think there will be other combinations that look inspirational, such as that Kurzick Margonite in the OP. Cool stuff!

Yeah, like the idea. Although sometimes the "major" dye-able areas seem too minor for the expense of the dye used. <Ranger Sunspear Armor, for example.> Being able to dye the currently undye-able portions, would be great.

This could be true but if I know about scripting and programming correctly they have a color generating program already which keeps work down on the colors (with 4 dye combination slots and about 10 dyes, there are a HUGE amount of combinations). Now for dying other parts of armor, it wouldn't be a massive rehaul considering it would be modifications to the armor colors not the design.
Though I could be wrong I don't know what the Guildwars Engine Scripts are like, but it does seem obvious sense they should already have the programs to work with this upgrade.

They have specific areas set as dye-able, and they can't change the rest to dye-able without remaking the armor sets.

Really awesome idea, never liked armors that had non-changeable colors.

And not all armor would require so, the tatoo armor ahve only once colorable areas, no amter how you see it... but there could be new tatoo armor with more than one color...
A dragon... and paint its belly and eyes in different colors...
Hm... can you say: "Look at my 'I love you Mom' tatoo"?
