they dont care why you quit.... since its not subscription based it doesnt matter if you plya for a day and then never pick it up again. they already got your money, and you quitting does nothing but free up their server space...
anyway, /signed for your suggestion of disabling copy n paste for local

disablein copy&paste/buffer in local would get rid of vast majority of spam.
rewritin a message would be too much of an hassle for spammer to bother...
|
I think everything written in that post, apart from this line, is a load of rubbish that you just pulled out of your ass. The figures are miles of, by any stretch of the imagination and pretty much everything else you said totally opinionated and not really based on any logic or facts.
That said, I agree that it's a good idea, but chances are it's been suggested many times before and ArenaNet aren't going to implement it.

or simply institute proper flood protection and don't penalise the general population by removing a decent feature...

Umm, maybe try using the freaking trade channel? You know, that channel that was made specifically for buying and selling.

Unless loads of massive trade improvements get added spamming is the only way to go. If some stupid limitations were added instead, many people would absolutely HATE that and some would find ways around it anyway (i know some)

That's not true. They want people to play and enjoy the game, so that those same people will go out and buy the expansions and new campaigns. They wouldn't be making much money if everyone quit after one campaign and never bought another copy of it again.
In response to the OP...I think your idea is VERY good. There's no reason I can think of to have copy and paste available in local chat, so it's only there to aid the spammers. /signed for certain!

Then spam the trade chat. This suggestion is about changing the local chat.

Much as I hate to say it, even if an auction house of some form was added tomorrow, most people are lazy and would just continue to spam the different chat channels.

Do you want to type "Experienced group LF SB Monk, HB Monk, Obs Flesh Tank and BiP Necro for Foundry" or something like that every single time you want to advertise for a team?

I agree - would be great if all the trade messages stayed in the pink channel. But disabling paste and the up arrow seems too drastic, as that has uses for things besides trade. The party search window was a great concept, but poor execution to facilitate most trade (needs longer fields and multiple entires, etc.)
Unless ANet gives us a better option or starts having GM's monitoring towns and penalizing people for trade spam in the local channel, I think the best advice to the people that are bothered by it is to stay out of the first districts. Yeah, there's spam in other districts, too, but no where near as much.
I never load into D1 of a big town unless I'm shopping. Sure, you and I have every right to be in D1 as the traders ... it's a question of not being where they are if they bother you.

Disabling these options would be yet another quick-solution path that diminishes overall player experience because of abusive behavior. We should think about improving the game, not diminish it.
Improve the trade system based on any myriad of suggestions in the forums and you would have both an improvement and a solution to a problem.
Now that's what I like in a game.

Too much of a pain and if you have a problem with it, turn off local chat.

Good idea to clean up local chat but would cause too much trouble. If you want to have a place to talk don't go to district 1 of major towns or just go to international districts. Or, get this, you can turn off local chat and trade chat!!!1

Its a good idea local chat is for general discussion party, forming and more not for selling your goods but then again everyone has the trade button disabled (if hes not looking to buy anything) so people find the need to somehow force the sell upon you or at least try to find some way to show it to the public wich is normal since talking to a wall isnt gonna sell your goods.
So a better solution would be this change and a change to the party search option especially the trade section could be changed into a auctionhouse or something like it. They could add a search function to search the item you want or make tabs related to proffesion material weapon type whatever youd like and make it gw wide not district related so you dont have to scan every single town for the item you want. Though im not completely sure gw wide would solve someones gear not being selled since the amount of junk being dumped in it but it would still solve a lot.
