Is It Me? Or Do Hero Battles Suck??
hmmm... when hero battles first came out I though sick, a way to bring my tough heros and myself a name but i stopped after a while because people decided its not about being tough...no it is only about capping bases and just running away from people so they cant get points from killing you. And that sir, pisses me off...cause im totally crap at moving my heros around as the AI does wierd things etc. im good at making builds when the need is there. but im sick of people just getting those earth ele builds for all there heros and just running away so morale kills me...AND THAT IS ANNOYING. I think that there should be no bases. or wait no bases are cool but mabye NO MORALE!! because when i hear "hero battles" i think sick lets fight to the death with heros not, lets just run away from people and cap bases. I think AB(allaince battles) is perfect where bases are handy but not nesscasary(ooo bad spelling!). so i think no morale might make this more intresting for people like me who think ok HB=shit. i actualy paid 1k balth fac(not much but still anouying) to get a tornament token and after first battle i though OMFG this sucks so bad, that i just logged off and then had more fun recruiting-yes that is a big call! So i have given up with HB and i still think that it is a good concept but people have taken advantage through morale(which is a pretty good idea that just didn't work) so im ask all of you fine gents and ladies to ask your self is this shit or am i dreaming...

No, its just you. I virtually never encounter such things. and if people run and cap I just lock Zenmai on them.
Also, use paragraphs.

I agree, I played ONE HB when they first came out, I totally thumped the guy I fought and I've never been back, thought it was the dumbest thing I'd ever been a part of. I did'nt even know I had to cap stuff until I saw he was getting ppoints even though his entire team was dead.
There are much better ways to spend your time ingame and out then in HB.

I hate the hero battles precisely because of the "run back and forth and cap" thing. I don't mind that those modes exist, but I'd want a Team Arena style annihilation mode also.
Running back and forth to get powerups rots my brain, especially as I can't motivate myself to play (and lose) enough to learn the maps. My last, literally, hero battle was lost after I'd wiped the enemy team without losing a single man - only after respawn he held all the altars so he had five people, was getting regeneration, and getting higher score than me.
At that point I just thought "this is too silly" and quit.

exactly. capping/holding stuff is pointles...it shows absolutely no skill. There should be just an all-out brawl, and the first team to hit -60 loses. point blank :b

I have never played hero battles, but because I want to get nightfall, this is something I have looked at in depth. And I think I find the same problems.
Perhaps incorporating survival/no cap maps into the limbo would be pretty good. That way, you have to be prepared for anything.

I have played a few HB, and sometimes its a lot of fun, but others its just plain annoying or boring.
Yes capturing bases is important, but there is skill in doing it, there are different tactics to accomplishing it, one of my builds has me holding one shrine and running about after the others with my character, others involve splitting into groups, while again you could just pile on the characters.
IF they run away then whats so tough capture the bases, they will soon attack you. Honestly I can think of situation, like in HA where two holding type builds arise where neither dies, then maybe 2 hours of fighting in the same game you will get bored, morale is useful as it encourages an end to the game, abolish morale then you will have prolifereation of unstopable builds, that you can't defeat

Well, I never did try Hero Battles, and after watching some of them with the recent update to Observer Mode, I probably never will.
Almost every single top 100 HBer did the same exact thing. Their character was an A/W so they could spike their opponents' heroes without much difficulty, and they ran two R/P and one Healer. Watching the same tactic over and over again was incredibly lame and turned me away from HB completely.

I have done one hero battle. It was on my PvP ranger (who I still have) and I simply ran a R/P, Searing Flames Ele, Crippling Slash Warrior, and a monk. I easily defeating my opponent.
Since then I have seen no reason to touch Hero Battles. I find that even Fort Aspenwood is more entertaining and less stressful, since I only have to keep track of myself and maybe one NPC.
Perhaps if they were to change it so that there were different types of Hero Battle arena, each with a different objective, it might be more interesting and would help get rid of those builds that simply hold shrines.

Yes hero battles is stupid. How can 3/4 teammates (on both sides) that is AI be considered Player vs Player....

Because you control the majority of their actions?

I think the thing that gets me the most is that HBs were ANet's response to the demand for a 1v1 arena.
Oh well, maybe it's still not too late.

If there were no shrines, it'd be just another random arena clone except you pick your team. There's actual tactics involved now other than "smash face".

There are three people.
Those who do it and enjoy it.
Those who tried it once and hate it.
And those who haven't tired it at all because they think they would hate it.
Hero Battles are very polarizing. You either love them or hate them. Because the "I hate this crowd" is always more vocal on forums, many people who have never hero battled before (like myself) get a bad impression of them before we even try it.

I don't hate them, but I don't like them either.
It's really a matter of, "If I want to play a capture the shrine game, AB is a lot more active and fun..."
Just my thought on the matter.

Im in the category "Wanted it to be good, tried it multiple times, and gave up because its borked"
Shrine capping simply isnt fun. If they made elimination ( like TA and RA ) the main objective and relegated the shrines to simply provide a minor bonus ( unlike the massive bonus/win condition they are now ) then HB would be awesome. As it is now its total crap, worse then AB.
Also...
