guild active metre, hence create more competition between guilds or alliences
I think it would be a good idea to have some sort of metre that can be seen by would-be new players to join guilds or alliances. The player can look at this metre and instantly see how active each guild or alliance is. The information would be gathered by the average amount of people logged on in each guild by its self, each guild in an alliance, or the whole alliance. A player can instantly see how active each guild is, which would help them to choose a guild for themselves.
This would also have other benefits. Because more people would be joining the active guilds, it would destroy some guilds, but also increase the size of other alliances, which would make more competition between different alliances. This would make large and powerful alliances more well known, instead of seeing an anonymous guild everywhere you go which doesn't mean anything.
This increase in size would create more conversation in the alliance chat, (which isn't a good thing). Most people wouldn't want so much pollution in the alliance chat so it clogs up the local chat, and conversations they are having in local chat or other places. So, my idea would be to increase the amount of guilds allowed to be in an alliance and make a limit to the amount of members and officers allowed to be in each guild. This would encourage the players to talk in guild chat to their own guild in their alliance rather than polluting the alliance chat with a never ending supply of messages. Only occasionally sending messages in the alliance chat about things that concern the alliance as a whole would be more suitable.
This increase in alliance members would make alliances less like a community (which is bad), you wouldn't get to know everyone like before, it was very friendly. Although, you could still have a sense of community in your own guild within your alliance.
All of this would increase the size of alliances to create more competition between different alliances. This would also make people more aware of different alliances instead of having thousands of insignificant minor guilds and alliances.
This idea could also be changed and modified through discussion.

I totally agree with the meter. There already is a last logged in display for the guild. but i think that something for the alliance would be really beneficial. i think that there should be a roster or something for the whole alliance....but thats another thread.
Nothing against you either. but one thing i got from this message was that you just dont like your alliance chat being spammed. the alliance im in doesnt spam chat. the only time i notice alliance chat being used is when people are wanting to do something in pvp or need help in pve.
It would destroy a lot of the smaller guilds. and i dont think that there will be any new guilds out there either. when newbies join a guild, they want to join an active one, with a lot of players. but no one will be there because they see that it isnt an active big guild. a never-ending cycle.

yea no..... this would promote even more elitism...... its hard enough as it is to get a guild going, or to get an inactive guild active again.... if stuff like this keeps up there will only be 5 guilds in the whole game...

To Cyn: the alliance chat wouldn't become "spammed", just cluttered because of the amount of people in an alliance, thats all. It's just that in my alliance, we use the alliance chat all the time because we treat the alliance as one entity or as other people might tread their own guild. So we don't usually use the guild chat. Maybe other alliances/guilds are different, I don't know.
As to newbies having a never ending cycle, the smaller guilds wouldn't become so much as destroyed, but merged with larger alliances, so alliances would become incredibly active and large. Thanks for your post Cyn.
To JeniM: As for kicking guild members that aren't active, I don't really see the point in that, because that would just reduce the activity in the guild/alliance even more. It is just the average amount of people logged on in the alliance. The amount of people logged out wouldn't come into the equation. Thanks for your post JeniM.
Just to clear that misunderstanding up. I should have put it more clearly in my first post. Thanks JemiM and Cyn for your replies.
Well, anyway if it is unsigned, oh well, it was worth a try .

ok i misunderstood and thought you ment that a guild would get bad reputation from people being away for a week but i'm all for having larger alliances made of more guilds

My alliance and guild mates are my friends, not my competitors.

well said hawk, i completely agree. All of the people in my guild and alliance i consider my friends. This idea would most likely allow breakdowns in those friendships with all of the competition going on.

Aah, I think i should give up now. You could at least attempt to fully read the post. More competition = more competition with other alliances, not within your alliance.
People are just not reading the post, there is no use in continuing in this thread because nobody can read properly.
Don't worry about it. Its obviously too complicated for people to understand. More trouble than it's worth.

Except for Tenshi, whose response was valid and I agree with. Having not many alliances can be a good or bad thing, depends on the way you look at it.
(forgot to say this in my last post)

So all the active, small guilds will have a very high rating in this meter, and all the larger guilds will inevitably have lower ratings if based on the percentage. Still not a very good indicator of activity then, since 50/90 active people will probably talk more than 8/9 people. Unless you're talking about total people active, in which case smaller/medium-sized tight knit groups get screwed over even though they can have much more player interaction (yes, I've seen 100 member guilds have very little guild chat while 30 member guilds have very lively guild chat).
/notsigned unless you can actually make it a fair meter for guilds/alliances of all sizes.
