leave item permanently assigned to a player until that person leaves party. This will solve the problem of those who leave you dead and stand around waiting for timer to run down just so they can STEAL your drops.

Why is there even a countdown when your nearby?
Make the damn thing countdown for 10 minutes when your out of radar view... i hardly see a tank going through the effort to somehow get you stuck out of radar range of your drop for 10 minutes. This system is and always has been gimped. If you want someone to pick up your drop, you leave or get it yourself if all hope isn't lost. If you don't want your drop you'll obviously have left it behind out of range.

This happened to me once, 2 titan gems drop for me however there was still alot more monsters to kill and the gems became available to all, the tank picked them, was painful to convince him to get them back, I don't want to go through that experience again and so.....

in foundry, there are gates that close behind you when you go into a room, the team uses a trick with a pet and NT to get behind them
|
I'm sure most people are aware of that, but as you say. Its a trick. If you want to be sure it doesnt happen then don't use all the tricks. Play the area as it was intended with everyone locked in the room then you'll earn your gems.

Is the area completable without using that trick ?
And then read my example about what happened in Urgoz, where we weren't using a trick and the same thing still happens.

Get rid of the timer altogether. Your gems shouldn't be available to the other player(s) unless you leave (map out, disconnect for too long, etc.) If you're still on the battlefield, dead or alive, they shouldn't be allowed to pick up your gems, ever. You could also have a "loot my drops = OK" button, much like the "loot my body = OK" button they had in Diablo 2's hardcore mode.

The first time i completed foundry was before the tricks where put into mainstream use and had no trouble.

You're kidding right? People would be leaving groups left and right after they got that nice drop if they could just leave and not have to pick it up.
