Just as a note, Shiro's req 15 Sword isnt your regular sword.. If you look better, its not 15-22, its 17-22..
Anyways I like the idea.

This is an absolutely horrid idea, that will lead to nothing but required grinding to play the game. There's a reason that nobody with any intelligence plays WoW and other grindfests.

People just want to have super powerful weapons with little to no disadvantages from them. I think that sucks! Ok, so it can't be used in PvP. Doesn't matter when Anet will have to buff the creatures to make up for any weapons like this being in the game. I don't think I should have to need any specific item just to complete the game with whichever character. All I should need is skill, max armor, and a max clean weapon.

If we do this with the weapons when will it stop?
Will there be pve-only armor, pve-only skills? One of the reasons I like this game is its seamlessness, I can take whatever build I am using, whatever weapon I have either into a mission, or explorable area, or into an arena. In this game PVE and PVP are bound together.
Wether you like it or not, that is how it is, and it was done this way for a reason.
I wouldn't mind an ultra powerful weapon. But I think that any weapon updates should be accross the board.

I feel that the need for powerful weapons is not need. I am a rpg person. Powerful weapons in rpg were or tend to be the must cusred weapons. What rpg needs is better rpg not more grind. Yes it is fun to have cool weapons but it needs more rpg. Bettwer charactor devlopment.

I like the idea, as long as they are untradeable. I would also like if they were capable of being dyed. I think there should be specific quests for specific items, make them really hard, and the only person that gets that specific item is the leader of the group. There should be decent rewards for anyone willing to come along and help as well. That way you can plan for which one you want, so you don't end up with some crazy caster item on your wammo.

My bad, this wouldn't work because you'd just trade the collectables
It would have to be a reward NPC at the end of a mission that offered a customised weapon.

Totally signed. But they should be customized to your account, not your character. I'd hate to find a 'red' sword with my ranger. Ow and btw, give me Melandru's Gift!

I agree that PVE is sorely lacking in the loot and treasure department. Just not enough interesting items to find that you can actually do something with. However, I really don't want weapons to be too powerful as it would make PVE far too easy.
My own suggestion is to go the route that any good pen and paper dungeon master would go. Have a lot more rare single use items. We already have a few things like this (candy canes, experience scrolls) but I propose this be expanded. I would love to see additional scrolls that would have short term affects and the scroll would disappear after use. For example, a scroll of protection from fire - all nearby allies take 1/2 damage from fire based sources for the next 30 seconds or so.
Or how about introducing potions into the game. You could have a potion of strength for warriors that would increase their strength attribute by 1 for a set amount of time. The different types of potions could be almost limitless.
Obviously none of these items would work in PVP. They won't drastically alter the PVE balance and it gives us PVE players far more interesting things to find.

Higher damage or statted weapons should never be factored in. Then those will become 'max', and in another chapter people will call for more buffs. Not to mention every fragment of the pve economy will be practically sodomized by their introduction. Players already have easy access to max gear.
Anet gave us 'monster customized' green items, some with custom skins, and with max mods. Now you want the same thing, with even higher mods?
The PvE'er in me detests the idea in every way, and the PvP part of me just blacked out from laughing at PvE too much.
Case in point, it's relatively incredibly high. Try Diablo 2, where you will get mountains of useless stuff between every unique item, and a mountain of unique items between every useable unique item. And maybe an actually good one occasionally. Likewise, it is conceivable. The bosses haven't been buffed, they've been changed from defensive double to offensive double. People didn't notice, maybe, because it didn't effect their pretty damage numbers (much like the 'mesmers do something?' sentiment), but whoa do they notice now that they see the numbers go up. Why don't you push for a level cap of 31, since bosses can get that. And since when did equipment determine your spell damage?

What you will have is the same group of PvE whiners in these forums complaining that the new red items are unbalanced and now 2-man groups of Monk + Warrior or Monk + MM WTF pwn all PvE areas. Then people who aren't these classes will be in the forum whining that they can't get a group and ANet needs to nerf.
Of course these whiners will all be the same people who originally thought that "red items" were a fantastic idea.

can see it now "LFG I have such and such red item pick me etc etc" or somthing like "GLF Nuker must have Magefist gloves etc". You could say goodbye to green farmer/chest runners etc and hello to red farmers as who would want anything else then one of these Ub3er items, unless your looking for somthing for your pvp char.

I like the concept that Guild Wars is "one game." I'm glad that ANet is designing missions/objectives that promote this concept. This idea is a step away from this concept.

Hi
I kinda like the idea, but not to the extremes your putting it to. If you lok closely at the game there are a few examples of weapos like these, (with crazy mods) that they shouldnt really have. Examples are: the -50 health cesta, the -2 while in stance longbow, the HoD sword (not now though) the HoD axe, the fiery flame spitter, th enolani wand etc. All these have uses, but are ot all that commonplace, i would prefer that there were more items similar to these, with "crazy" but not overpowered mods.

Dude, the name is "Guild Wars" not "PVP Wars". "Guild Wars" does NOT imply PVP. My Guild goes to war against the charr, against Shiro, etc.
Many, many players play this game only for the PVE aspects. And frankly, they need more added to the game before they all leave.
Please please, don't let yourself think of this game as only a PVP game, there are just as many of us out here who don't play this game for the PVP.

First of all, I don't think I like the idea of items that cannot be used in PvP, even though I don't personally PvP very much (or at all). The very idea of that is kind of limiting. I mean, it may be the only sword you will ever use so you don't bother getting another one. Then one day you actually want to try PvP and you're stuck with nothing. You will never bother with PvP. And what about places like Fort Aspenwood? Are those PvP or PvE? If they're PvP then who would play them anymore? If they're PvE then wouldn't your red items be overpowered? And what other kinds of PvP/PvE mixes will ANet come out with?
Secondly, even if it is just PvE, those items you suggest are rediculous. I like to win in PvE, but only because I'm skilled enough to overcome tough challenges. I know you put drawbacks on them but things like health degen and such can be conpensated easily enough for the great mods.
What I think they should do is make a greater variety of mods that are balanced enough to use in both PvE and PvP, not insanely powerful versions of the same.
Things like what I posted in this thread. There's no need to make things more powerful when they can just make things more interesting but balanced. Of course, that's assuming you guys agree those mods I've suggested are balanced.

Especially for the idea of a Ranger weapon with a requirement other than marksmanship!!!!
Melandru's Gift should have a Beast Mastery +1 (20% Chance) mod.

Whatever I don't really care about powerful weapons. So long as people can't trade them at all (like trying to trade a pre-order weapon), I don't care what others have.
