Its a stupid idea to have some evidence of being blinded, aside from an icon that can be missed when in the heat of a fight?
Even if your character stumbles about waving their hands because they cant see.... anything would be nice.

Please refer to the other threads that are going by you Fish Boy where you are simply asked to pay attention to slove your problems. (ie the "I missed the event cause I'm dumb" that you started.
So you are saying that the words "MISS" that appear when you fail to hit because of blind AND the "BLIND" icon on the screen AND the "BLACK DUST" flowing from your eyes just is not enough to let you know you are blind so now you need a black screen?
THATS 3 (THREE) animations to let you know you are blind.
PAY THE EFF ATTENTION.
Tell you what, I'll come over and stand behind you and everytime you get a condition or Hex on you I'll smack you in the back of the head and point to the warning icon, hows that sound?

Ok Fish Boy, how many times do you to be told to pay attention.
Ok lets see now, There is an "ICON" that tells you that you are blind, an Icon, I may add, that can be placed where ever the hell you want it on the screen so you have a better chance to see it. As mentioned by others theres the "BLACK DUST" bubbling from your eyes. Then we have the big yellow words "MISS" that pop up on the screen when you fail to hit.
THATS 3 (THREE) animations ANet provides to tell you that you are blind.
PAY THE EFF ATTENTION
I'll tell you what, if you promise to stop making stupid threads I'll come over and stand behind you and smack you in the back of the head and point to the screen everytime you get a condintion or hex on you, hows that sound?

Dude, there is a blindness animation. It's black smoke right in front of your face. You can't miss it (I mean most people can't miss it). It's also very easy to spot the icon even with a dozen enchants, hexes, and conditions. If you still don't notice with those two signs, then "MISS....MISS....MISS" should be evidence enough.

Wait ... so this is about an indicator effect? I thought someone finally had a wicked idea ... y'know ... like people stumbling into lava, getting lost on retreat, taking hits in the "dark", etc.

Um.
Broken mechanics side -- even when you're blind, you still need to strategize and/or retreat -- I kinda like to be able to see the game I'm playing. I didn't pay for Black (or severely dimmed) Screen With Some Zoomy SFX To Compensate Wars.
Shimmer effects when you're drunk in an outpost are one thing. Distracting, costly effects during actual gameplay are another thing entirely.

Fish, I have decided you just don't have the ability to use what is already given to you. Your post asking for in game announcements for events is teh same as this. As noted, there are several things that occur when you are blind that tell you you are blind. Icon, animation (black dust at eyes), and yellow MISS. The game already gives you what you are asking for, you just need to learn how to use it. If playing a physical damage dealing character (Warrior, Ranger, Assassin, Dervish, or Paragon), blind is you worst condition. If you can't notice you are blind, go back to playing your Elementalist, which Blind won't bother (for most builds).
THE GAME ALREADY GIVES YOU WHAT YOU ARE ASKING FOR! LEARN HOW TO USE IT!

....I've played for a while now, and I've never really been happy with the blind effect! It's obviously meant to prevent or reduce your ability to see. But it has no actual effect on your ability to see.
What if (while suffering blindess) you actually went slightly or completely blind?
We already have drunk effects, that obscure the picture on screen and make you unable to see properly or focus. We also have that same effect in different colours depending on the drink you use.
Why not have blind use the same or similar effect as level.
If your struck for blindess, the screen instantly goes obscured and its very hard to focus on people and objects. Then once blindness ends, it fades away.
At the minute "blind" doesnt really blind you! Your effectly just unable to hit with attacks, but you can still see!
Make blind, actually fully or partilly blind you using a similar effect to being max level drunk.

OMG yea and when u get dazed a guy needs to come to ur home and hit u in the head w/ a hammer and when ur bleeding "u need to cut ur self" .....

lol you never realise that ~90% of your attacks are missing?
lol. sucks to be on your team if youre using a martial weap char.
I really do wonder how people manage to play GW if they dont even realise that NINETY PERCENT of their attacks are MISSING. I wonder if OP is a W/MO or something.

But if your blinded, you see no animation or effecT!

If you are dazed, nothing happens. You only see those weird bubbly-things around your character's head. You don't stagger.

What difference does it make if players decide "right, we're going to blind this character all game", and that players interface gets blacked out or their character cant target!
Arent both just as frustrating as the other?
I've just never liked how there is no animation, or real feedback for being blinded. Other hexes or effects you can notice due to some kind of animation.
Blindess happens and stops so fast you dont always notice.

1. Being drunk is recreational. No one is going to fight while drunk. However, if you do make blindness more "visible" (in your terms) it will screw up the game.
2. Even if the interface isn't blacked out, what about the rest of the view being distorted? The monk is not going to notice that whammo running towards her before it's too late.
3. The big flash (when the blind icon appears on your status bar) and the dark dots around your character's head are not enough for you to see that your char is blind? Maybe you have been lokking at the screen too much
4. What difference does it make? There is a huge difference between shutting down a warrior to shutting down a warrior AND a monk.
5. There is also an animation (usually) for being blinded. Blinding Flash has a HUGELY noticeable animation. You can tell with Shadowsong, and Ineptitude (the damage bar). Same with Blinding Surge.
6. Blindness can occur for long periods of time. Mystic Corruption ftw.

Another indication to what kind of playing style you have. If you do not look at your enchant monitor, you will not know what effects are on you at all!
I can see what the problem is. The OP relies on animation effects to see what is going on. He doesn't loko at the effects monitor, so obviously he can't tell what hexes and/or enchants are on him.
That still doesn't explain why you cannot see MISS MISS MISS MISS over and over again! And why can't you see the black dust?!
Ugh. I have tried and tried and tried and tried and tried to be clam but I CANT ANYMORE! I'm GONNA FLAME YOU TO HIGH HELL!
lol jk

I personally only notice when I have cripple on me because I limp, and I notice i have slow effect on me because I obviously slow down.
But you have no evidence of being blinded aside from the enchant icon on you, which you can miss if your in the heat of a fight and you have 10 other effects on you.
|
actually you have a bunch of black things around your character when your blinded.
and yes, i do notice the second im blinded. its not hard to notice either. if its that bad that you can't see it out of the corner of your eye then move the effects area to somewhere else so that its more noticeable. i understand wanting to know more easily, but your suggestion just can not work at all. i dont think anet's purpose was to make the game as realistic as possible, which you can tell after playing the game for 2 minutes. so why should blind be realistic? if they did your suggestion, it would basically be a permanent blackout. how gay would that be?

It's not that hard to notice blind. Whenever I'm with my team, I always warn them that I have blind on me.
What you do is, PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT'S HAPPENING. Thats the most important. Yeah, in the heat of battle, thats what it's about. If you can't be aware of what's happening around you, then you almost for certain lose in any pvp environment. In PvE, it's not as bad, but if you don't be away of blind, then what about the other nasty hexes? SS, reckless haste, price of failure, etc.
Just don't get too focused on your skill bar and your opponent. There's more then one, and they're definitely on his side. Thats the most common mistake. Thats why you see wammos chasing after you with blind on and overextend leading to their deaths.
A simple tip to how you can be better is just learn to recognize them better. Or Perhaps move your effects monitor near your skillbar.

I've got to love how some people resort to CAPITALS and blatenly being rude in replies. Especially when I'm perfectly polite to everyone. If you can find where I've harrassed anyone in here then tell me, and you can justify being rude!
But actually I have never noticed any black dust coming my chars eyes when their blind and I have never noticed a "missed" message.
But if I dont notice these animations, then its not my fault! Maybe I dont get blinded enough during PvE over the last 18 months to have noticed.
But yes I do rely on animations to see what condition my character is in, and I rely on my health and energy bar to show if I have some kind of degen on me. And then I check if I have enchants or curses on me.
I dont PvP so its not a matter of life-or-death if I dont notice these things until the last second.
All I was suggesting, was a more obvious way to notice your blinded then what currently exists. But as you pointed out, I hadnt even realised there was this "black dust" effect on your character.

I used caps so the words would be easier for you to see.
You do not pay attention so I had to do something to get your attention.
Worked didn't it?
Not being rude, just overcoming your weaknesses

What wasnt i paying attention to? No one before you had mentioned this "black dust" effect and I didnt agrue against you explaining it to me!
Your just taking a really ignorant attitude towards me right now, for absolutely no reason!
Had I been rude, or blatenly ignored someone who explained the black dust thing, then fine. But I didnt.
You cant say I wasnt paying attention during gameplay, because I do pay attention. I just had never obviously witnessed this effect animation.
As for making comments towards other threads or posts I make; im sorry you feel that I dont "pay attention" but that still isnt an excuse to be a snob towards me.

I think you just want this argument to do your ways. If all you're doing is button smashing, and using skills as soon as they recharge, then I can see why you don't notice it. But if you are one that actually takes time to see whats happening rather then just your skill bar, hp bar, and the other guy, I don't see how you cannot notice it.
You just need to work on your ability to notice things. Enough said.
