Default How to fix leaching

If a player does not move for the entire match disconnect them, if they do this again within a given period of time (30 minutes) D/C them again and auto-ban them from reconnecting for 4 hours.

GG leaching.

Sounds like a good idea. Wouldnt work on the people that use bots that move them around automatically but they will hopefully be caught eventually anyway and perma banned.

That's exactly why I suggested it as-is - people should be banned for botting when it's obvious. Currently there is no "obvious" way to tell who's a leach-bot, they could just be someone who had an emergency and had to go AFK (or got drunk and fell asleep).

People who circumvent my suggestion for hours at a time by moving side to side once in the match would be obvious

GG leaching.
You need to consider what the possible, shortest time is for a mission to be completed. Then use that time as the time-limit to be inactive during a mission or instance.

30 minutes isnt a good time-limit for a mission that takes a shorter time. It will still allow people to leach that mission.

You need the deterant to kick in before the mission is completed!

I'm signed for the idea, but not sure about the punishment of being banned for 4 hours. But you need to re-think the time-limit. The only issue I see is that it wont really bother anyone! There is bound to be some leaching player who is willing to endure the 4 hour ban if he can still leach afterwards.

I don't care how. but please pretty please fix Aspenwood. It's such a nice mission but the leechers hurt.

I can see this working, If someone enters a Fort aspenwood or AB mission and doesnt move they get disconected and possibly flagged, if when they log in again and do the same in a second match then disconnect them for the said 4 hours. Maybe if they do so a third time they could be banned permanently or for a week.

leechers are a pain, and need to be taught that to do so will result in escalating and severe punishments. And simply because a method will not work on all cases doesn't mean that it shouldn't be implemented at all.

Interesting idea, but what about the bot leechers that just follow people around without attacking or healing? Just seems like there's a lot of different possibilities.

Just add a code to prevent players that do not move, attack or use skills at all receive faction points and experience.

/Signed (most importantly, eliminate the instance reward for the inactive player) [Edit: I linked to this thread from my bot reduction discussion thread, How might ArenaNet and NCsoft better solve the bot problem?.]

Taking away the reward for leeching ... makes me wonder why Arenanet hasn't come up with that one.

Although, maybe if someone doesn't leave the starting area for five minutes after the mission starts, DC them.

Um, the bots would just press forward and backward, along with some other random keys. They can even use beneficial skills like heal party or LoD.

There's plenty of bots that run all over the place.

This doesn't solve a single thing. You'd just see them running around.

And not leaving starting area? What if someone is running a purely NPC defensive build, ritualist or monk, and decides to stay close to starting area (Kurzick side for example) to bond or put up spirits? They don't need to even get out of the gate to (sometimes) win the match.

If a bot just cast healing skills, at least it will do something.

Antheus,
Actually, this does solve a single thing. Those who are totally inactive are removed from the equation. To take care of the whole problem, things must be successfully taken care of in sweeps. A simplified example: abuse ABCD exists. Effectively eliminate all A. Effectively eliminate all B. Eliminate all C. Eliminate D. One doesn't just get rid of ABCD with one method at the same time.
Best Regards,
Chris. Dratz

IMO, the second time they leech they should be insta-kicked. This leech can occur any time within 30 minutes, and as soon as it does they're banned for 4 hours from logging back into guild wars. That would mean that leeches get to leech 2 for free every 4 hours, not nearly as bad as it is now.

Here's the difference, if these people run bots to do the things you're suggesting then they're OBVIOUS bots. Obvious botters are easier to ban than people who stand on the res pad and claim that they had to go AFK for an emergency.

This suggestion is only part of the fix, it removes passive leeches and makes the active botters apparent. It's up to Anet to do the ban work after that to take care of the aggressive botters.
