Nerf Needed - Imbalanced Ranger Build Inside!
So it has come to my attention that an amazingly effective and ingenious build has surfaced for Rangers. The problem is that it renders Mesmers (such as myself ;D) completely useless due to the fact that not only does it interrupt everything without fail, but it also does amazing spike damage that apparently can't be protted or healed. I had the great displeasure of seeing this build in-game, when the Ranger single-handedly destroyed my entire team (we were running a cool new spike of Necros and Mesmers. It doesn't even need Monks because the Necros can heal old-school style, even with Soul Reaping being the mess that it currently is). I don't know for sure what all the skills were, maybe some of you do, but here is what I can recall:
[skill]Barrage[/skill][skill]Nightmare Weapon[/skill][skill]Splinter Weapon[/skill][skill]Ignite Arrows[/skill][skill]Choking Gas[/skill]
I think the guy may have had something like Dual Shot because I remember getting hit multiple times by NW+IA damage. I dunno though, I'm not that great with Rangers yet. The point is, it's obviously really overpowered. So, here is my suggestion to make Rangers less overpowered (specifically ones using this build):
Nerf Choking Gas and Barrage. Choking Gas pretty much raped my entire spike team, and if a single Ranger can shut down 8 people by himself, that's overpowered and needs to be fixed. Barrage is just hellish damage when combined with weapon spells, so that needs nerfed too.
So, without further ado...
FIX THIS ANET! LOTS OF GOOD PLAYERS (LIKE ME) ARE GOING TO QUIT IF YOU DON'T GET IT IN GEAR!

Barrage removes preparations.
This is not chess. Arrows can be dodged. And the party can spread. Choking gas affects only foes adjacent to target foe. If a ranger manages to interrupt 8 characters, they are idiots for sticking together like that after the first chocking gas hit.
Bows are the slowest weapons in the game. The fastest one, the shorbow, takes 2 seconds between each attack
Mesmers have stances and other skills that prevent interruption.
I don't see the problem.

I don't know how you can get so many effective skills on one bar and claim this game is balanced. This is ridiculous, while the individual skills don't need to be nerfed I think banning certain combinations (Barrage for AoE damage then Dual Shot for spike ?!) would be better for the health of the game.

Ah, and remember that only one preparation and one weapon spell can be active on the same character at the same time:
So with a build like that, you'll have to choose between:
Use barrage and one of the weapon spells, but not one of the prearations.
Use one of the weapon spells and one of the preparations, but not barrage.
Not much effective. On top of that, putting attribute points in 4 attributes could be too much spreading, and putting in 3 would leave Expertise out, so and barrage is not a wise decision with low expertise.

Oh wow. I've done probably 500-1000 GvG's, and I'm almost rank 9 Hero, but I haven't ever seen a build as scary as this one. I used to run a build with Nightmare Weapon....but Ignite Arrows too?! And then it has Choking Gas to swap to? Anet NEEDS to nerf the ability to use Preparations and Weapon Spells together, because if builds like this start popping up....then I think I'd prefer Rit Spike to come back :S

I'm confused. That build there in the OP is complete rubbish. The only commonly used combination is splinter+barrage, and I hardly see that being any use in pvp since after one shot everyone just goes "woah! Guess I'll stand 2 feet this way". Barrage + preparation doesn't even work. Read the barrage description.
I never had much luck with choking gas in pvp either. It's far more effective to just chain savage/distracting(/concussion/punishing/BHA). You can only keep choking gas up at about 50% of the time with 12 Wilderness Survival, and it's not even guaranteed that you will interrupt a single spell for those 10 seconds, considering the slow attack speed of bows.

LOL, someone does not know their Ranger builds very well.......as stated above Barrage removes Preps so ignite would not work with it.......

Yes, but he uses Dual Shot with the Preparations. Dual Shot with Nightmare Weapon and Ignite is like...200 damage. How is that not overpowered?!

You don't use them all at the same time. When you need Barrage, you use Barrage. When you need a spike, you use Dual Shot and Nightmare. Its a pretty crazy toolkit build, its got pretty much everything you expect from rangers in any GvG. Choking Gas can stop pretty much any spike, from adrenal to flame-trap.

I went up against a guy running this last night and he had [skill]Distracting Shot[/skill] as well. It was brutal. I couldn't get any of my traps down.

Okay this is annoying, everyone in RA is running one of these now >.<. The last skill is Resurrection Signet btw. Yeah, it does have Distracting Shot. Now if only I could find attributes.

You can always block arrows, and you can also do some major brutal hurting to this guy with the right skills. Just find some skills that can take on this build. You can't use choking gas and barrage at the same time either.

I'm trying to think of counters but it's pretty hard. Here's the build I have come up with
E/W - Making GW Playable B-Surge Ele
[skill]Blinding Surge[/skill][skill]"Shields Up!"[/skill][skill]Glyph of Concentration[/skill][skill]Blinding Flash[/skill][skill]Deflect Arrows[/skill][skill]Storm Djinn's Haste[/skill][skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill][skill]Air Attunement[/skill]
So the idea of the build is - don't go near the ranger, run around all the time using Storm Djinn's - if you get ambushed by 2 of them, use shields up and deflect arrows in attempt to avoid instant death... Res Signet really need to be replaced by a hard res because the rest of your team will be dead. You can try and blind the ranger, but good luck.
