Please make the bonus weapons moddable again
I am posting this new thread in regard to the last response by the moderator in the following thread at the forum :
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10125835
Below are a few points in regards to what is this thread about :
- The "bonus weapon not upgradable anymore" issue has been going on since the launch of Nightfall in 2006. There are no proper announcement about this update. There are many thread in various forum addressing the similar issue.
- From what I have gathered this is done to prevent people from salvaging unlimited mods from the Factions pre-launch/Europe CE weapons since you can regenerate the weapon multiple times by using the "/bonusitems" command. This caused a side effect making all bonus weapons unmoddable.
- Bonus weapons that came with GW:Prophecies GOTY Edition are affected the most since they do not come with a suffix mod initially and now you can't even put one in making them inferior compared to in game weapons.
- A Lot of people had pointed out that since these weapons came customised to the player we should be allow privilege to upgrade them since we cannot sell or trade them.
- Weapons from collectors previously behave in such a way that you are able to put mods on it but not extract them (this has changed since the update and mods are now salvagable from collectors weapon). Why can't the same method be apply to the bonus weapons instead of totally locking the moddability ?
- This wouldn't have been an issue if bonus weapons are free items that you get from quests but since NCSoft started selling the GOTY upgrade at the online shop + we did buy the Factions/Nightfall bonus weapons using "real money" this has become an issue that needs attention.
- Bonus weapons that are affected are as follow :
Guild Wars : Prophecies GOTY Edition
Tiger's Roar (Elementalist Focus Item)
Poisonous Nevermore Flatbow (Ranger Bow)
Sundering Rhino's Charge (Warrior Hammer)
Serrated Shield (Warrior Shield)
Wolf's Favor (Monk Focus Item)
Luminescent Scepter (Mesmer Wand)
Insightful Soul Shrieker (Necromancer Staff)
Guild Wars : Faction Pre-Order pack
Poisonous Dragon Fangs of Dagger Mastery (Assassin Dagger)
Insightful Spiritbinder (Ritualist Staff)
Guild Wars : Nightfall Pre-release pack
Icy Soulbreaker of Enchanting (Dervish Scythe)
Fiery Sunspear of Shelter (Paragon Spear)
Please make no mistake that this is not a demand but a plea so that the developer will take notice upon this issue and take the appropriate action. Even if they decided not to make bonus weapons moddable again at least have the decency to make a proper announcement and please add suffix mod to the GOTY Bonus Weapons so they don't feel inferior.
Thank You.

Thank you for summarizing it so nicely and for being civil. Much too many people demand things from ArenaNet these days too.

If we can't salvage them, at least let us add or overwrite existing ones.

At least if there are empty slots, they showuld allow mods in the empty slots, like with the Sundering Rhino's Charge.

/signed, these are awesome hero weapons and this is a brilliantly written request
Hell, two more things maybe? add the skins to the pvp weapon creation screen and maybe add an Axe and a Sword with GW:EN?

Signed.
I said this before and I'll say it again, that Nevermore bow is just begging for a better mod on it.

As you stated, if they simply let you add a mod to a bonus weapon, but didnt let you extract one, then the problem is solved.
The existing mod is destroyed, but you get to put a better one on. And because you cant extract a mod, you dont get people having an endless supply of extracted mods to sell.
But what if you put a great, perfect mod onto a bonus weapon, but couldnt extract it afterwards?
Its kind of a one-off-deal, and you loose your mod if you later dont like the change or you make a mistake. But if people are willing to take that risk, I dont see why they dont let you mod them, with extraction limitations.
/signed aslong as its restricted on abuse.

You can add modifiers to collector weapons, but you can't remove the fixed properties they come with.
This could be exactly the same.
Althout it would be even better if the y had set some kind of flag to th weapon, so you could remove the mods you add, but not the ones the weapon comes with... so you could recover the mods you had to find or buy if you don't need the weapon anymore.

/signed to non-salvageable default bonus item mods, to being able to overwrite these mods and to being unable to salvage them afterwards (to avert abuse).
The bonus items I use most often are the Nightfall ones as I don't have much by way of spears and scythes. The Prophecies bonus items now see little action because I can't mod them, especially the Rhino's Charge and the Nevermore Flatbow

Agree the mods from bonus weapons should not be salvageable, BUT ther eis not reason at all we should not be able to apply upgrade that we attain to them. True this means that latter we would not be able to salvage the upgrade we put on that bonus weapon back off again, but thats OK... the same is true of our hero armor is it not? We should be able to apply at the very least our Prefix suffix mods that we were able to do BEFORE nightfall release. Thankfully I still have my original Vampiric Ithicas bow of Fortitude from way back at faction on one of my ranger heroes. But now that particular bow can not be remade Ever, so it is ultra rare I suppose. However its not fair to people that have these bonus wepons not to use them as they want too. Most of them are not all that great anyway, just some amped up starter weapons for most of us. However, I do agree with the Dev that allowing unlimited salvages off bonus weapons would be a problem.
If its a logistical thing Its understandable, however we have seen that other types of weapons and items can be modded but not salvaged from, so there is not reason these should not be that way too.

I hope this is something they're working on. It took them a while to change the old armours to being inscribeable. I hope this is just a similar delay with the bonus items.
It doesn't seem fair that one pays for the items that end up being worthless.
